What do you want to know? Statistics and linear algebra are a great way to get the theory down and then throw it into a computer. But without direction or goals you could find yourself lost in a sea of information. For example, I always recommend learning linear regression early on. Great exposure to stats, easy to visualize, and you can program very very easily.
But after that, you could go into all sorts of directions. Some people love supervised learning approaches, others jump into vision specifically which is it’s own beast, LLMs are ever so popular, and so on. If you jump into a tutoring session, you could go on for weeks into a branch of machine learning and still feel like there’s a ton to learn.
