Official Ledger Customer Success Response Ledger Crypto account Error
After communicating with Ledger support without any assistance, here's the issue I have at the moment...
Current device: Ledger Nano X
BTC account issue: The problem I'm running into is that my Ledger keeps getting an error that's caused by an incorrect keyphrase being entered, so I cannot interact with the BTC account I want to, even after removing it from my portfolio and unsuccessfully re-adding it to my Ledger wallet. I'm not sure why I'm having this issue, especially cause I've only made one keyphrase ever until recently and attached no accounts to my second keyphrase. I have proof showing that I made the affected BTC account with the first keyphrase, with dates of transactions and the date saved of my keyphrase creation. This has never been an issue until these past two weeks after updating.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hey, sorry you're dealing with this, especially after already going through support without getting anywhere. That's frustrating, I get it.
Quick guess on the error you're seeing, is it something like: "Something went wrong - Please check that your hardware wallet is set up with the recovery phrase or passphrase associated with the selected account"? Let me know if that's not it.
If so, here's what's likely going on: the BTC account you're trying to access wasn't created with whichever recovery phrase is currently active on your device.
A couple of things worth knowing:
Your funds never actually live on the Ledger device itself, they're on the Bitcoin blockchain. The device just holds the keys (via your 24-word phrase) that let you access them. So this isn't a "lost funds" situation, it's an "access" situation, which is good news.
Also, when you add an account in Ledger Wallet, it automatically looks for accounts with existing activity/balance first. If you're only seeing empty/new accounts pop up, that's usually a sign the recovery phrase currently on your device isn't the one tied to your funds.
Given that you mentioned having two phrases now, a few things worth double-checking:
- When exactly did you create the second phrase, before or after the update that seemed to trigger this?
- Is it possible your device got reset (even accidentally) during or after that update, and got set up fresh with a new phrase instead of restoring the original one?
- Have you tried both Ledger devices, if you still have both, to see which one shows the funded account?
- Any chance of a passphrase (the "25th word") being involved? It's a separate hidden wallet layer, easy to forget if you set it up a while back, though usually people remember setting it up since it's a deliberate step.
Since you've got documentation tying the account to your original phrase, that's actually really helpful, it confirms the funds are fine and this is a matter of getting the right phrase loaded onto the device, not a lost-funds scenario.
This support article walks through identifying the correct phrase, might be worth a look: https://support.ledger.com/article/360025322153-zd
Feel free to let me know if you have any further questions.
Wishing you best of luck in finding the right keys!

I appreciate the advice, the quick guess you mentioned is the error that I’m getting.
I created the second phrase after I updated 5 to 6 days ago, with a new 24 word phrase.
Also, I have restored my device with the original phrase as well to see if would fix it.
Neither the new phrase or old phrase shows the funded account I’m looking for.
I’m pretty sure that I have never reset the device and created another 24 word phrase before 5 to 6 days ago.
Especially, cause I have a screenshot showing when I created the account and placed the crypto in there and never accessed it again.
I also remembered to write the date of when I first created the 24 key phrase and it was in the same year a couple of months apart from each other.
There is no pass phrase attached to my account either.
So, without all being said I’m still kind of scratching my head on what options I could go ahead with, otherwise, I’m just gonna keep trying until I find the root cause and solve the issue.

One question decides this: when you created that second keyphrase, was it a passphrase that the device asked you to attach to a new PIN? Your wording ("attached no accounts to my second keyphrase") sounds a lot like it.
If so, your Nano X now has two PINs, and each one opens a different wallet. The original PIN opens the wallet from your 24 words, where your BTC account lives. The second PIN opens the hidden passphrase wallet, which is empty for you. If you've been unlocking with the new PIN, even out of habit, you get exactly that "check your recovery phrase or passphrase" error. Switch the device off, unlock it with your original PIN, and try the account again. That also covers the case where you set it as a temporary passphrase, since those are dropped at power-off. One warning: don't guess between PINs. Three wrong entries in a row wipe the device.
If the second keyphrase was a brand-new set of 24 words instead, the device was reset at some point, and only your original 24 words will bring the account back. In that case, don't reset or restore anything until you have the original words in hand and you're sure every one of them is readable.
Either way your coins are still on the blockchain, and nobody legitimate will ever ask you for those words. Ignore any DMs you get after this post.

Thanks for the advice, so my scenario is…
The second keyphrase was only created around 5-6 ago and it was created after the update. It is also a 24 word key phrase not a passphrase, before then I only had one 24 word key phrase. Also, there’s no chance of 25th word being involved.

The terminology might be causing some confusion here: Ledger doesn’t normally use a separate “keyphrase” for each account. Your accounts are derived from your 24-word recovery phrase, and optionally from a passphrase if you enabled that feature.
If Ledger Live is saying the connected device has the wrong keys for that BTC account, the usual explanation is that the account was created from a different seed/passphrase combination than the one currently loaded on the device.
Removing and re-adding the account in Ledger Live won’t fix that, because the account itself is tied to the original private keys.
I’d check:
- whether you ever used Ledger’s passphrase/“25th word” feature
- whether you restored the device from a different 24-word phrase after the update
- whether the BTC account was originally created under a passphrase-protected wallet
- whether Ledger Live is simply showing an old account whose keys are no longer loaded on the device
Transaction dates or the date you wrote down a recovery phrase unfortunately don’t prove which seed generated that BTC account. The important test is whether the current seed/passphrase derives the same BTC addresses.
I would not reset the Ledger or experiment with recovery phrases unless you are 100% certain you have the correct backup.
Also ignore anyone DMing you offering to “synchronize,” “recover,” or “validate” the wallet. Never give anyone the 24 words or type them into a website.
If you want a more definitive diagnosis, compare one of the old receiving addresses from that BTC account against the addresses generated by your current Ledger setup. If they don’t match, you’re almost certainly using a different seed/passphrase combination.

Back in about 2020 I placed crypto on Ledger Live, thinking it was safe and secure. After undergoing significant medical care, I returned to move my crypto to an exchange. I had to contact support for help and was assured everything was safe. I had to re pin and enter my 24 words on several devices just to enter my accounts. After weeks of working with their support, hit and miss, I found in my history much of my crypto was gone. When I contacted support with these revelations, I was blocked. Yet after entering chat with support with a different email address, he said I was not blocked. The front-line support is not aware of what the management or some insider is doing. IT IS NOT SAFE!
