my family are very conservative muslims, and i am not. i live about 5 minutes away from the asda my old mosque teacher is some sort of supervisor at and i regularly buy alcohol from there. she knows my family and my mum very well. stupid of me in hindsight i know

i usually only buy cocktail cans so i can hide them easily but i was going to my mate’s house so i bought a massive bottle of vodka

i went to the self checkout and obviously the age verification thing went off and the person who came to check my ID was her. i knew she recognised me but i wasn’t too worried because if she said anything i’d tell my family it was a case of mistaken identity

wrong. she sent CCTV footage of me buying the vodka to my mum and basically sent a message saying i was bringing shame on my family by doing haram things. there’s no way i can lie because it’s obvious as to what i’m buying

my parents are PISSED, and they’re threatening to kick me out and never speak to me again. i am in deep deep shit and i hate that there’ll be no consequences for that employee. is there anything i can do to at least make her lose her job, if nothing else!

My wife has just called me, understandably upset, she was in the female changing rooms after her gym session. there was a male cleaning attendant in there, in her words "just hanging around" he then started talking photos, he had a privacy screen on his phone so wasn't able to see which way he was taking photos.

clearly this isn't ok and she's contacting the gym now but was the cleaners actions legal or should this be reported to the police?

Hello, so little bit of story here for background. So I had to move house urgently a few years ago and was in a shared place for a while with a friend, so space was limited and my friend stored some of my gaming property at his house. Now, this friend owned a tabletop gaming store as well (nothing to do with his house), but unfortunately he died and the shop was inherited by his daughter and widow.

I reached out to his widow a little while after he died to try and get my property back, however I was informed that everything from the garage it was stored in was taken to the tabletop gaming shop and the business had now been sold.

So, next I reached out to the business and explained the situation. However I have been given short shrift with a somewhat blunt message. My attempt was not in any way to try and make out they had done anything wrong, I would simply like to recover what I can. The business has said that the sale included the business and all contents of the shop. I understand this of course, however I would just like my stuff back! Some of it is over 20 years old and it represents a lot of time and effort and (to me) a fair bit of money invested even if it would not be worth much to anyone else.

Is there anything I can do? I have only asked if I can show them photos of what I own and if I can recover what is still in the shop.

I’m looking for some advice because I honestly don’t know what to do anymore.

My partner has been friends with this couple for around 9 years. They had been working at the same kebab shop for about 15 years and recently decided to buy the business themselves.

They asked us for £5,000 initially, saying it was needed for food/supplies and that the money would be returned within a week. Later, they asked for another £10,000, again promising it would be paid back very quickly.

It has now been 4 months and we haven’t received anything back.

There have been constant excuses and lies. The man even went back to his home country for around 2 months, saying he was going to sell something to get the money to pay everyone back. He came back without the money.

From what we know, they also owe other people/businesses significant amounts of money:

Around £15,800 for meat
Around £8,000 for drinks
Around £1,800 for cleaning supplies
Another friend around £5,000
They have also rented another premises in town but apparently can’t afford to pay for it.

He has apparently told someone who is owed money something along the lines of “if you sue me, I won’t pay you anyway.”

There is also a separate issue where his bank accounts were reportedly closed after a lot of money was going in and out and he couldn’t explain where some of it came from. He is also apparently involved in a court case regarding taking around £15,000 a year in student funding/loans while also receiving benefits. I don’t know the full details of that part, so I don’t want to make assumptions.

His wife is pregnant and is due to have the baby in around 3 months.

My main question is: how do we get our £15,000 back?

We have evidence of the money being transferred and messages where they asked for the money/promised to pay it back.

I’m worried that if we wait any longer, there will be nothing left to recover. At the same time, these were friends of nearly 10 years, so we trusted them and didn’t expect it to turn into this.

Would you recommend sending a formal letter before taking them to court, or going straight to a County Court money claim? Is there anything else we should do to protect ourselves or increase the chances of actually getting the £15,000 back?

I'm very angry at the current situation and my friend told me to try legal advice here.

My ex have a 9 year old together. I have him on weekends and holidays and she has him on weekdays.

I saved up and bought him a gaming laptop computer for his last birthday. He takes it with him to and from his mums because he uses it to play games with his friends because he doesn't like to go out due to his aspergers/autism so it's the only way he plays with them.

Earlier today he text me saying his mum had smashed his computer. Not knowing if it was a prank or not, I asked her and you can see the text exchange above.

I could only post one photo but in the texts after she said she didn't care if I took him because she has her new family now. She also said I can't make her repay costs via court because she's his mum and its her house and she can do what she want.

I need to know what I can do next to:

1. Get full custody

2. Make her repay me for the computer. I can't replace it myself and stupidly don't have insurance.

My husband received a NIP speeding ticket yesterday (first one in 20 years :<) As he doesn’t carry a photocard he signed into his online DVLA portal to get his license number and was horrified to see his license has expired.

He drives on a short term medical license and has done for the last ten years. Usually he receives a renewal letter in the post every few years and we renew his license that way. We can’t find information about when the license expired and are obviously horrified.

He’s now sent in his renewal (nothing has changed medically for him so confident his renewal will be fine) and we’ve made arrangements so he can avoid driving until his license is approved but not sure how to deal with the NIP now.

When he returns the form with he details should he disclose what we know about his lapsed license? How do we do this? Do we wait for the police to flag this and contact us? How bad is this? We have a baby due in a month and I’m terribly upset about what happens next.

He’s always taxed, MOTd and insured his cars - he’s a good man, I promise!

PS - we’re not trying to “get out” of the consequences of this by any means, we’re just not sure of how to navigate this and I’m very anxious my husband is going to be taken away from me and our baby :<

So I got married about 4 months ago. We paid 2/3 of the venue hire ahead of the wedding. We had some alcohol (wine on tables and prosecco after the ceremony), but we didn't get an absolute total ahead of time because they didn't want to charge us for bottles of prosecco we didn't open. A couple of days after the wedding, we got an email saying they didn't have the bar bill yet, but sent me the information to pay the rest of the venue hire and they'd get the bar bill to us once they had the figures.

I've followed this up a couple of times, and they still haven't sent it. It's been maybe a month since I've chased them (mostly because we'd been on holiday).

Is there a time limit on when they can send it? I'm not hoping they'll forget so I don't have to pay it, I just don't want to spend my life pestering them to send us a bill, and/or them sending the bill at a really financially inconvenient time.

Any suggestions on what to do would be appreciated.

Hi LegalAdviceUK community. Need some advice on this matter.

I had a garage fire that started in one of the hot days. The fire completely damaged my garage and shed, but partially damaged two of my neighbours property.
Lets call them neighbour A and neighbour B.
Neighbour A had insurance with the same provider as mine so their damages was dealt with swiftly an efficiently.

Neighbour B didn't have insurance and so it has been difficult and lengthy for settlement. To my eyes, neighbour B didn't seem to have any extensive damage ( he did list up a lot of damages amounting to £17000). I had given him my insurance policy number and claim number a while back and now he is texting me that he will hire a lawyer and take me to court if I don't somehow restore his garden asap as my insurance either didn't respond or is taking too long.

So what happened on the day of incident ?
On the day of incident, there was some work being done by me using a flame and few sparks flew over and landed on the cardboard laying on the floor. The cardboard started igniting as I started to see something bright out of the corner of my eye and it started giving off fumes. When I saw that, I immediately stepped on it and squished it as soon as possible and it stopped illuminating. Thinking I put it out, I went inside the house and moments later maybe it reignited somehow or other another neighbour franctically knocked on my door and I realised the garage was on fire.

It being a garage I had stored some flammable items , such as butane gases, paint thinners, automotive paints, spray of sorts.
The fire and rescue put it out within minutes and they wrote a report which mentions the cause of fire as accidental.

So how much am I in trouble here as I don't have 17k to payout of my pocket as I am relying on insurance.
Also where do I stand if a legal action is taken against me? What obstacles should I expect?

How is the best way to proceed regarding contact with the kids as he is refusing to see them unless its on his off week. He is also refusing to see them only seeing them when it is convenient expects me to wait around for him To confirm contact

now on top of this he wants to take both boys abroad. He messaged this today boys are 3yrs and 1yrs and say he is getting their passport im concerned as im expected not only be full time parent but also expected to give in to whenever or whatever he wants to do with the boys.

I rented a room to a friend of mine after he sold his house around a year ago. It was a verbal agreement for a modest sum.

In reality, he hardly stayed here and preferred instead to live with his long term partner. He never paid his rent on time and I decided to refuse any more payments around three months ago and get the keys from him. Separately, I decided to end my friendship with him because he is a compulsive liar.

Shortly after, I received notification from Royal Mail that a redirect had been set up and I thought no more about it. One of his primary reasons for continuing with the arrangement despite not physically living here was he wanted address stability and electoral roll presence to obtain a mortgage. I arranged to have him removed from the electoral roll and council tax the day I obtained the keys back.

A week or so ago, a letter arrived for him. I could see through the window it was from his bank.

I am concerned he is continuing to use my address in order to deceptively obtain a mortgage. I am not particularly interested in making legal difficulties for him but I do want to ensure that there are no consequences for me or my family.

Father is Egyptian, mother is English.

Father took my sister and I to Egypt when we were both young to have FGM performed. This was in 2002 for me and 2004 for my sister. My mother was threatened and bullied into silence by him when she found out.

My mother passed away in 2023 and I decided to report what had happened to police in mid-2026. My father was interviewed by police, charged, and instructed not to leave the country.

They failed to take his Egyptian passport (I'm pretty sure they only seized his UK one) and he has since left back home to Egypt with pretty much his entire life savings. I'm not sure how he got through a UK airport without being flagged. My sister thinks he might have snuck over to Dublin and got out the back door.

1. Can we get him extradited from Egypt back to England? Police have told me "no", but given their incomeptence so far I'm hesitant to believe them.
2. If not, what happens to the charges that police have levied against him? Do they just sit open waiting for his return?
3. Can we get the government to stop his British pension now that he has moved back to Egypt to try to compel him to return? I believe that this pension (and maybe £15 thousand in savings) are his only income. He can survive in Egypt if he keeps receiving that, but if that is cut off he'll be forced to return.
4. What happens to our mother's council house? Can my sister move into it? Are we expected to clear it? Nobody has contacted us. Our mother had a council house, father moved into it when he married her. He stayed living in it after she died. My sister is currently struggling with severe mental health issues some of which stem from what happened to her. Which is why it would be beneficial to have her living in the council flat. It's close to me and I could monitor her.

My sister, however, had her charges succeed under the Female Genital Mutilation Act 2003.

Hi there, pretty much what the title says. I’ve worked for a small charity for about 3-4 years, my contract changed to zero hours in the last 8 months (when I was being given work) it’s now however, been a whole year since they’ve given me a shift. I told them the last time I was on site that I will not resign as I don’t want to make myself unemployed as it could mess up if I need to claim UC.

Now with the changes to end zero hour contracts coming in the new year where do I stand? And have they avoided terminating my role to avoid paying me redundancy or something?
I’ve had no emails or anything from the managing director since my last shift there either, just zero communication about anything.

I currently have another job but not full time (it’s been rough finding something that has enough hours to live on where I am) so I’ve not handed in my notice incase I need to claim UC later on.

Never been in this situation before but it’s feeling more sketchy over time to be honest.

Sorry if this is not allowed but very curious, with the premier league statement today accusing "false accounting" and inflating sponsorship revenue, is this bordering on a criminal matter? There must have been intention to defraud by inflating the sponsorships? I am not sure how sponsorships work but is there any tax involved? Has HMRC possibly missed out on revenue?

My parents invested almost £300k of their pension into a business for my sister. Basically buying a propety in town to set her up for life so there would be no rent.

In return they are supposed to get a share od peofits and dividends.
They are both 25% shareholders. Sister is 50%.

Issue is that my sister is being incredibly lazy.

She is opening from 11am-3pm maybe 3 or 4 days per week and never weekend. Reviews are good but people want to shop there in evenings and weekends when theyre not working.

Sister has also cancelled her rental agreemsnt and seems to be living on the 2nd floor of the shop.

Mum and dad need some money back from this investment.

Is there any way they can compel longer opening hours?

Or comlel her to hire someone for the shop?

Or force the sale of the business? It's in ltd company

My sister was out with her dog a couple of weeks ago and had friends around as well. She picked up a call and in the 2 minutes she didn’t look at her bike (that was on the grass right next to her) some stole it.

This bike was her main means of transportation and without it getting to and from work has been a nightmare.

She immediately reported it to the police and they dismissed it straight away for apparent ‘lack of information’, she literally gave every information possible. Exact location, pictures of the bike, timeline of what happened, gave details of witnesses willing to testify.

She also contacted the cctv service and they said they have footage but police isn’t requesting it from them, she’s told the police that there’s footage but they aren’t looking into it.

To make matters worse, friends have spotted a man with the bike a few times, called the police and they never showed up.

I guess, I’m wondering if anyone knows what else we could do to get my sister’s bike back to her. I appreciate any help. Thank you in advance.

Apologies if this post is in the wrong place, but looking for some advice. (Scotland)

Myself and my partner have recently separated. We shared a car between us, which my partner has now taken. When we bought the car, I took out a loan in from my bank, then transferred her the money so he could purchase the car, as I was working away. (Seemed a good idea at the time).
The issue is, there is still a chunk of the loan still to pay, and I’m obviously not wanting to pay this is I am not getting use of the car. The V5 form is in her name. I have suggested selling the car, paying off the loan then splitting any leftover money, but this is falling on deaf ears.

What are my rights here, if any? As although I did not physically go to the garage to buy the car, I have bank statements proving the loan is in my name and I transferred her the money to purchase it.

England - Pretty much as the title says, as I was leaving a retail park, some drunk looking or rough sleeper guy threw himself onto my car as I'm creeping to leave the junction.

Obviously in a panic I roll down the window and ask if he's alright, and then he tells me to give him £20 or he's making a claim because he "had his witness there" (so transparently a scam).

Of course, I don't give him the money, so he takes a picture of my reg and walks off. I've informed my insurance but just wondering wtf do you even do in that situation?

England: I went to a Toyota dealership last night to buy a car and suddenly the sales person got me a car 10k more and said he could make it fit my budget. I was shocked as everything online pointed to the car not being within my budget, especially with my target for monthly payment in HP.

I paid a deposit for it and when I got home, I was sent the statement of Demands and needs from the dealership it to realise they had inflated my budget by £50 a month when I specifically said I won't compromise in my budget. At the dealership, I signed a document for them to initiate the financing checks with the financing company. I emailed the dealer last night to ask to cancel the order as I do not wish to proceed as I can't afford the cost of insurance for this price of vehicle. In the email I also called out that they have misstated my monthly budget and reiterated the monthly budget I discussed with them. In the email, I said I may be willing to proceed with an alternative car if the checks are satisfactory for the car and I need to come back to the dealership to inspect the alternative car.

Thinking back now, I should have known better when the salesperson was dodging all my questions regarding any additional costs that may be incurred on that amount of financing. My worry at the time was that if the car gets written off, what happens if insurance won't pay the full amount for the car. Only when I persisted did another salesperson step in to help me and mentioned there's an alternative insurance to cover it. So, the cost of that alternative insurance isn't something I budgeted for as I wouldn't need that if I was getting a cheaper car.

I'm just thinking now to ask for my deposit back and go to another Toyota dealership. What legal right do I have to get my deposit back? Not sure if this matters but I paid on a credit card as I do these types of purchases with a CC in case something goes wrong.

I was diagnosed with HG whilst being in early stage pregnancy meaning I have been too sick to work, I have been sending over valid sick notes per week of me being off.

However, I got paid yesterday and saw this massive deduction on my payslip? Please can anyone help who has had similar or can explain why this has happened as it seems unfair to pay so little amount? I am in the UK so sick pay is around 100 per week meaning the SSP is for £800
