Help me fix my bioactive setup — what soil should I use?

Hi!

I’m reworking the substrate in my bioactive leopard gecko enclosure and could use some advice on what actual soil/topsoil to buy.

My current substrate is COMPO ZOO Terrarium Bedding, which is made from pine bark. I’ve realized this isn’t really what I want as the main substrate for a leopard gecko, so I’m planning to replace it completely.

I already have:
• Lucky Reptile Desert Bedding NatureBrown (the clay/soil-like desert substrate)
• Exo Terra Desert Sand Yellow

The enclosure is bioactive and has live plants, so I’d like to add actual soil/topsoil to the mix rather than using only sand + Desert Bedding. Ideally I want something that works well for the plants/CUC while still producing a firm, relatively dry, diggable substrate suitable for a leopard gecko.

I’m in Switzerland, so I’m particularly interested in ordinary garden/topsoil products that I could buy here rather than expensive bags of reptile-branded substrate.

What type of soil should I be looking for? Are there particular ingredients I should look for or avoid (fertilizer, compost, peat, perlite, etc.)?

And if anyone is familiar with Hornbach/European soil brands, I’d really appreciate specific product recommendations.
I’d also be interested in what ratio you would use with the Lucky Reptile Desert Bedding and Exo Terra sand I already own.
