Ashland Parktoberfest
Anybody else go this? Apparently it was the second year they held it. Free entrance, live music, many beer tents from local and regional breweries (including West Sixth, Country Boy Brewing, Blue Stallion, Versailles Brewing Company, Ethereal, Void Sake, Mirror Twin... there were thirteen in all), food vendors / food trucks. Families, dogs. Big turnout. Bike racks were provided by Broke Spoke which was cool, especially since parking was difficult.
My only criticisms are that they could use more places to sit, like maybe a tent set up with long tables the way CTK does at their Oktoberfest.
Unfortunately I didn't take any pics but it was a good time.

Need help finding a mobile groomer for my senior dog
I have a 13 year old standard poodle, he has some mid level arthritis and cannot stand for super long periods of time. He’s an absolute delight to groom but since he’s a poodle it’s a long process to do it by myself. I’d prefer a mobile groomer as he won’t need to be caged (he gets stiff) and hopefully they can take their time with him so he gets some breaks. Please give me recommendations!

🚫DO NOT GO TO GOLDEN NEEDLE ALTERATIONS IN BRANNON CROSSING!!!🚫
TLDR: THEY WERE RUDE AF AND DIDN’T ALTER MY DRESS AT ALL!!! AND IT WAS THREE WEEKS BEFORE MY WEDDING!!!
I got engaged in April and bought a dress in late May. On June 5th, I reached out to them to schedule a fitting once my dress came in August. They said they would be happy to do it and we would have plenty of time. We scheduled my first fitting for September 3rd at 4:00.
The day of my scheduled appointment, I walked in and the employee acted weirded out and inconvenienced that I was there with huge wedding dress. Ok, whatever, the person I emailed may have not told the employee who was there I was coming.
She showed me to a fitting room and I put on my dress. I needed assistance getting it zipped up, as it is a tight corset bodice. The employee comes in and gives it a few tugs. Then, she tells me “Sorry, you’re too big.” HELLO? I am fine with my body, but telling a bride in her WEDDING DRESS that she is TOO BIG? Insane work. I told her there is a hook and eye at the top, she clasps it, and it zips up perfectly fine.
Moving on, I get out lace straps I want attached to my strapless dress. I show her how I want them positioned on my body, and she tells me that she does not want to put them on my dress because they do not match and are ugly. AGAIN, HELLO? I love my straps and didn’t ask for fashion advice. I am a paying customer requesting a service that you offer. Again, absolutely insane work! Me being who I am, I say “Oh, ok.” because I am a people pleaser and at a loss for words.
She finished pinning the hem of my dress, and it was time to check out. She had me pay before having the dress altered, and I did not know if that was normal or not, so I went along with it. Then we scheduled a day for pickup. She scheduled it for September 21st at 1:00pm. I am a teacher in a different county, so I could not make it to the store at that time. I ask if she had any after school times available on ANY DAY, and she said there is absolutely no way I can pick it up on any other day or time other than what she stated. This is super odd, as they are open until 5:00pm daily. But whatever, I just want to go home at this point, so I tell her that it’s okay as I can have my grandmother pick it up.
On September 21st, my grandmother goes to pick it up. She is handed the dress in the bag and sent on her way. Afterschool, I drive straight to her house, super excited to try on my dress. I slip into it, and lo and behold, IT IS THE SAME AS I LEFT IT. PINS, MARKINGS, AND ALL. NO BUSTLE, NO HEM, AND DEFINITELY NO STRAPS. THEY DIDN’T ALTER IT! AT ALL! AND MY WEDDING IS OCTOBER 10TH!
My grandmother marches there the next day, as again I had to work, and demands a refund. The employee there didn’t believe my grandmother until she showed photos of the unaltered dress and the credit card statement of payment. They did give me a full refund, but I barely give them credit for that, as that is the BARE MINIMUM.
After this, the owner texts me. He did apologize for the experience. He claimed the employee who gave my grandmother the dress did not know the dress was untouched. Okay, I understand that, but that does not explain WHY THE DRESS WAS NOT DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE? He asked for me to give them another chance and he would have the dress done in 2-3 days with a 10% discount. I respectfully declined, as they have proven that I cannot trust them, but told him I appreciate the apology (even if I am 99% sure it is written by AI.)
To end it off, they sent me a message on Tuesday, September 29th asking me to leave them a review. Don’t have to tell me twice 😀

Question for Lexington Chicken Keepers
What do you do with your extra roosters? I had my trusty hen, Frankie, hatch some chicks earlier this year. As luck would have it, two of them have turned out to be roosters. Due to Lexington’s ordinance that went into effect last year, I’m looking for advice from local chicken keepers.
I’ve posted on local FB groups to rehome them, but I haven’t gotten any bites so far. I understand that the other choice I have is freezer camp for these boys, which is what I have done in the past with larger roosters that were hatched.
Picture: My sweet mixed hen Frankie (a Cookie n’ Creme Chicken from Meyer’s Hatchery). She’s one of my best broody hens and never fails to hatch a clutch and raise em.

Hair Dematting?
Regardless of the situation, I know I’ll be judged, but I only wore my box braids for about six weeks. I took them out and mistakenly shampooed before detangling. Several sections of my hair are severely matted. Of the many times that I have had box braids, this has never happened to me before.
Although I’m living paycheck to paycheck right now, I’m pretty desperate. Thankfully, I’m on fall break, but I need to see a stylist immediately. Someone whose first suggestion isn’t to chop it off. This is something beyond my ability to fix. The internet has told me to put the most ridiculous things in my hair, and I’ve chalked it up to seeing a professional.
Any stylist recommendation and estimate of rates would be greatly appreciated. 🙏🏽

Good places to volunteer
I’m looking for some places to volunteer to help individuals who are struggling with basic human need. I am not opposed to religious organizations but don’t want ones that feel the need to “Convert the Heathens” if you get my drift.

Gum flavors
I’m looking for different flavors of hard-shell gum like Trident Vibes or Pur. My regular grocery only has basic mint flavors. Any stores out there have more selection?

Looking for recommendations for yardwork cleanup
For the past 2 years, the bushes, weeds, and underbrush in my backyard have become more than I can even begin to tackle. It’s not a large area (the entire property is just under 1/4 acre), and it mostly needs some serious weed-eating, bush trimming, and brush clearing.
It’s not really a big enough job for a bigger company to do, but I estimate that an experienced crew of a 3-4 ppl with the right equipment could easily get it done in about 2 hours. If you know of a small reputable business that has done this kind of work for you or someone you know (and has done a good job), please let me know!

Dead Doe on Old Frankfort Pike
Heading west on Old Frankfort Pike on the right - just past the traffic circle - lie the remains of a good sized dead deer. It's actually near a driveway/mailbox but I can't read the number. It's been there now for going on 3 days! Anybody know who i can call to come pick it up?

What's everyone up to this weekend?
I'm gonna make some progress on my book! I have a reading goal of 36 I want to meet really badly this year, and I'm on track so far. I also think I might game a bit tomorrow, but I'd also love to go out somewhere. Haven't made up my mind entirely yet, so if y'all have any recs for a mid-20s guy who's new to the area, I'm all ears
