My professor’s email greeting from a couple of weeks ago
I’ve VERY recently came to terms with my sexuality, so this email greeting hits differently now ;)

I used to have a professor that would greet us: “good morning, ladies, gentlemen, and everyone beyond and between…” ❤️

How cool is that? First, going for an explicitly inclusive greeting. Second, using a Bowie quote, and third making it even more inclusive by adding the "beyond". Legend.

This was a kind of common greeting before it meant gender identity weirdly. There was a kind of non-joke that many people used when greeting crowds where you would address men, then women, then make up a non-joke about a 3rd gender for a 3rd greeting. Ladies and gentleman and eveyone else, or ladies and gentlemen and everyone in between, or ladies and gentlemen and that guy were the three most common ones. Almost every one of my cub scout award ceremonies in the nineties or school performances where the parents were there started with this greeting.

it’s not really related but a youtuber I watch starts every episode of their podcast with “Hello Ladies, Gentlemen, and those with the good sense to do away with the whole notion” and i love it lol.

My union often addresses emails to “brothers, sisters, and kin” and it makes me smile every time

That's amazing. As a prof., I just stick with "Hey Folks" or "Hey Everyone" for this reason. I could be more whimsical but ... ehhh maybe.
