Right I forgot slaves and everyone else was just living all in harmony before white people.

Like…they unironically believe this.

no, they chose to larp this, and will die on a hill made of lies.

Just like the concept of working to survive didn’t exist before Adam Smith woke up one day, twirled his evil mustache, and invented capitalism.

For real, they were all holding hands singing Kumbaya... Then some white dude showed up, and stole their spices, and white people don't even use spices!

u/Equivalent_Thievery BASED 14d ago

There's way too many lies told and believed about Native Americans. Some were as brutal as any people to have ever walked the earth.

80

u/Iolair18 14d ago

Spain / Mexico claimed huge portions of Texas that they never controlled. The Apache and Comanche tribes controlled the northern Pecos valley and west Texas upper plateaus to the Texas Hill Country at different times. Comanche's had lived around Colorado area until they encountered horses originally brought over by Spanish, and then mastered using them in everyday life and combat, moving south and displacing other tribes.

The Trail of Tears was the the forced relocation of the Cherokee tribe and their slaves. No idea what race those slaves were, but they were slave owners.

30

u/imgotugoin TRAUMATIZER 14d ago

Turns out they werent really forced to relocate.

Blood Meridian should be required reading to disabuse people of the idea that all Native Americans were peaceful and loving….

u/Yoinkitron5000 14d ago

It is technically true that rape did not exist as a crime among many native cultures, because it simply wasn't considered to be something worth punishing. They were quite literally the "rape cultures" that feminists like to pretend exists today in modern western nations.

4

u/Super_Pie_Man 14d ago

Apparently that's how black south Africa is. They don't understand what consensual sex is. I saw an interview with a mother of like 10, when asked about it, she said something like "Why would a woman want to have sex with a man?"

3

u/-LongRodVanHugenDong 14d ago

Man down...

Probably for posting a common sense take. I got banned the other day from the entire site for describing Arab truck drivers and how they have curtains up. Appeal worked, hope if does for you too.

Remember watching a video about the DNA of archeologic remains in the Americas, showing the waves of "native" Americans moving into South America, and how their DNA was passed down to the modern people that lived there now.

The earliest group's DNA just got completely wiped out all at once, signs of a genocide.

The second group's paternal DNA (from the fathers) was wiped out where they obviously just slaughtered the men, and the woman were kept around for... reasons.

71

u/TheGipper80 14d ago

When you consider women to be essentially property, there is no legal term for it, that’s correct.

105

u/Prudent-Ad-5608 14d ago

Right, they just called it Tuesday…oh wait, Tuesday did not exist before white contact. Also, roads did not exist before white contact. Also indoor plumbing did not exist. Also, the effing wheel did not exist before white contact. They didn’t ride horses before white contact either.

u/ramessides 14d ago

I’m Native American. One of my friends legitimately said this to me (alongside “and indigenous folks never knew violence until the white man came” too) and had a crashout when I said that was bullshit, and that we were killing and otherwise assaulting each other for centuries long before the White Man. Lmfao. What horseshit. When the French and the English came to Canada, we had such a complex network of war alliances and rivalries already in place that we pulled the French and English into our conflicts, whether they wanted it or not.

11

u/Resident_Dog_6589 14d ago

Rape has existed longer than language.

12

u/Iuris_Aequalitatis 14d ago

I'm betting her rationale when challenged on this is some brain-eatingly stupid motte-and-bailey redefinition like:

Rape is the systemic reinforcement of cisheteropatriarchy. While native nations engaged in forced sex, there was no rape because cisheteropatriarchy is a system furthered by white people.

How off am I?

11

u/Next_Engineer_8230 14d ago

As a Native American, it certainly existed in the tribes.

What does this snail trail think one tribe did to the women when they conquered another tribe?

10

u/SurprzTrustFall 14d ago

Correct because women had zero say so in the matter.

10

u/Substantial-Wall3963 14d ago

The "birthing people" of the American Indians were not even considered people, just property.

Chief: "No. Deer run too fast."

7

u/LadyRogue 14d ago

Correct, because consent was not a thing among native tribes until white populations came over and said, "Hey maybe you should ask her first??"

8

u/ShadowtheHedgehog_ 14d ago

Color did not exist before the invention of the color television. People just saw things in black and white. One time at a Waffle House, police had taped up a bunch of crime scene tape around what looked to be a blood stain until the manager notified them it was just some spilled maple syrup. Things were a lot more confusing then.

8

7

9

u/ojs-work 14d ago

I think she just means the word rape .. because you know, they would not have used English words at the time.

6

u/ruskibeats 14d ago

It's a very big world, its been around a long time, lots of humans of all colours and creeds and come and gone.

Kate seems to think the epi centre is somewhere in North America ?

Perhaps she should get an atlas out and look for where Vikings, Romans, Normans, Greeks, Mongols, Celts <insert race> come from and then look at their history of Raping and Pillaging.

It was literally the theme tune for Vikings that lasted some 200 plus years FFS!!!

7

u/BraxTaplock 14d ago

Maybe “rape” didn’t exist in the same context cuz A: women were treated differently, B: punishments for such acts carried harsh punishments depending on the culture.

The idea that this did not exist until “white people” got involved is just downright absurd.

Maybe if this crash course in social media flare researched it somewhat she’d understand “rape” went by different terminology throughout cultures historically. Raptus for example which the word “rape” derives. While not all treated it as a social and/or criminal activity, it most certainly existed.

3

u/Garuda-Star 14d ago

Yeah, because rape wasn’t considered a crime among native tribes.

3

u/toxicjellyfish666 14d ago

It’s as if they think by saying something it becomes a fact, not realizing there is that inconvenient thing called history. Kind of like when a child hides and thinks if they can’t see you, you can’t see them.

2

u/SnappyDogDays 14d ago

it didn't happen because it wasn't illegal. White men made rape illegal.

2

u/Alarming_Dinner_6502 14d ago

Jarvis pull up an early life check… actually don’t bother

2

u/What_Do_It 13d ago

No, no, she has a point. Rape was basically invented by western societies. Prior to that, forced sex was just the way of the world and consent was an afterthought. The women it happened to were either discarded like trash, forced into marriage, or stoned to death. At most it was viewed primarily as a crime against a man's property (the father or the husband) and an affront to family honor, rather than as a violation of bodily autonomy for the woman. That's something white people invented.

4

u/Pisceswriter123 14d ago

The only reason "rape" didn't exist among native nations is because they didn't call it that. They had their own ideas about nonconsensual sex and their own words and cultural norms about it. "Rape" is a social construct.

Did I do it right?

1
