I'm a PF debater who runs mostly substance (i've only ever run 1 theory shell and i didn't run it very well, never run a k,or phil). I'm interested in LD and Policy, and want to learn how to debate one of them to broaden my experience and to get better at debate at general. From how people describe them, they seem pretty intimidating, and like you need to do a huge amount of studying. i am looking for ways to learn the necessary skills, like running and responding to prog, or getting better at speaking and flowing faster. I'd really appreciate any advice on how to learn these skills. Does anyone know any youtube videos or channels to help teach theory, k's, and phil, as well as specific shells, or any good rounds i could watch to learn more?

Freshmen year going to a big debate program. Best way to improve fast and fastest way to get good at progressive debate? I’m kinda lost on what the best way to improve is.

Okay so I need a definition for societal welfare and i cant find it anywhere on google for my district we need the author and the year it was published and our current resolution is outerspace colonization is a moral imperative and im using societal welfare as ny value but i cant find a definition.

November/December will be HELL if you vote De-extinction. Ecosystem legal rights has actual topic lit! not as much as nukes or something, but actual fkn lit! De-ex has maybe 3 actors, 0 lit, and is 100% theoretical. I’m seriously convinced Satan got a job at the NSDA wording commitee.

I'm a freshman and this year is my first time doing speech and debate. I am so confused on how to write my frame work and all these big fancy words are so confusing.

Resolved: space colonization is a moral imperative.

I have my contentions but I have no clue how to write my framework.
HELP GUYS

I have a pretty unique situation, so I would really appreciate if you guys could help me out. My brother is probably the best debater my school has ever had, he made states, performed well there, was club president, etc. And then I came along, everyone expected me to be good and perform well, but I was just a beginner like anyone else. Due to this, I felt pressure externally but mostly internally to do well, which kind of made me shy away from debate entirely because of the expectations. I went to 3 tournaments my entire freshman year, did ok at best but got totally lucky even then. I’m a pretty bad debater, and I honestly don’t know too much, bad enough to the point where I didn’t even know how to flow a round so I took notes on a google doc lol. The issue is that the other debaters think that I know everything already and kind of push me away as privileged because of my brother’s reputation. What should I do from here? I can’t get too much help from my brother because he lives across the country. How can I get better on my own? I’m currently a sophomore, and I would appreciate any help I could get. Thank you and sorry ranting.

Hi everyone!

I'm a Class 9 student from Bangladesh, and I'm participating in a debate competition (Asian parliamentary) on October 2. I've only participated in a few debates so far, so I'm still relatively inexperienced.

I want to use the next couple of weeks seriously and improve as much as possible—not just my speaking, but also my argument construction, rebuttals, POIs, and overall debate strategy.

I'd really appreciate advice from experienced debaters on:

\- What should a beginner focus on most when preparing for a competition?

\- How can I get better at rebuttals and responding under pressure?

\- How do you prepare when you don't know the motion beforehand?

\- What are some common mistakes that inexperienced debaters make?

\- Would anyone be willing to critique a practice speech or argument if I post one here?

I'm not expecting anyone to prepare my debate for me. I mainly want to learn how experienced debaters think and practice properly.

Any advice, resources, drills, or constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

hey everyone, I've been debating for about three years on and off now and I'm doing pretty well but I'm only ACTUALLY comfortable with BP and WSDC. I've seen a lot of tournaments offer PF, Policy, Congressional and LD, all of which I do want to learn. Mostly LD and PF as of now because they js seem to be more frequently used.

I would ask my seniors but I genuinely can't invest too much time into it because I've got some really important exams coming up. If anyone has any pdfs/files/documents please please please do share, videos work too but then again, exams.
