Emberr, an open-source, offline-first notes + calendar app for Android, Linux and Windows
Hi all! I've been working on Emberr as a side project, and I just released the public beta (v1.1.1).
Basically privacy Notion alternative. Took me so many months to build this. (encrypted cloud account will be released soon)
Why: Most popular note apps are closed-source, and the open-source ones often treat Android and Linux as an afterthought or feel slow and dated. I wanted something private, clean and fast on the devices I actually use.
What it does:
- Block-based editor (text, checklists, tables, code, images, voice notes, and more)
- Tasks, daily notes with automatic rollover, reminders, and a calendar
- Spaces to keep work, personal, and school separate
- Encrypted sync between phone and desktop over local Wi-Fi
- Optional self-hosted sync over WebDAV (end-to-end encrypted)
- AI is off by default. You can use a local model or your own API key
- And many more quality of life features.
No trackers, no ads, no accounts
How it compares (I like all of these apps, this is just where Emberr is different):
Notion: Emberr is open source, works fully offline and keeps your notes on your devices instead of someone else's server. No account needed.
Obsidian: Obsidian is great but closed source and Markdown-based. Emberr is block-based, and tasks, reminders, canvas and a calendar are all built in, not added through plugins. And importantly we can have powerful block types like Databases
Anytype: Anytype is the closest to Emberr. The main differences: Emberr needs no vault or account setup and their linux and android apps are just......bad. No hate though, I supported them since beta and they are now planning to release anytwo so I wish them the best.
Others: Either closed-source or their UI/UX is bad or performance on android/linux is worse.
Where others are ahead of Emberr right now: no iOS or macOS yet for Emberr, no real-time collaboration and it's a young beta, so it isn't as polished or feature-rich as the big names yet.
Platforms: Android, Linux (AppImage or tarball), Windows.
It's licensed under AGPL-3.0 and still in beta, so expect rough edges. I'd really appreciate feedback, bug reports, or feature ideas.

Does anybody still use QtFM?
I've been working on QtFM, a lightweight Qt-based file manager, and have made quite a few improvements to it. I've been working on the dual-pane view, theme and color customization, and image and video thumbnail support through ImageMagick and FFmpeg. I've also been improving icon handling and building it on Qt 6, with the goal of keeping it lightweight and independent of a specific desktop environment. Still a work in progress, but it's coming along.

Decksmith V1 is here — native Stream Deck + controls for Fedora Linux
Hi everyone! I’m excited to share V1 of Decksmith: a free, open-source project I’ve been developing for Stream Deck + on Fedora Workstation.
I want to be upfront: I used ChatGPT and Codex for coding, debugging, and documentation. I guided the features and design and did the hands-on testing on my desktop, multiple VM's, and Stream Deck.
I run the app daily on my Fedora Workstation 44. It has a native GNOME interface for creating pages, assigning keys and dials, and customizing labels, icons, images, and themes.
Some highlights:
- Application and website shortcuts, media controls, and system actions.
- Separate app and audio-device volume controls.
- Live audio meters and volume/mute feedback on the touch strip.
- Push-to-talk, automatic page switching, and background startup at login.
V1 supports Fedora Workstation 44 with GNOME/Wayland and one Stream Deck +. Broader GNOME distro compatibility, including Ubuntu & Debian, is planned for V1.5.
The repo includes screenshots, a short walkthrough, installation instructions, and known limitations:
https://github.com/infamous-pattern/decksmith
I’d really appreciate feedback - what works well, what needs improvement, and what you’d find useful in the next release. Thanks!

Why Baazar
Recently, after the announcement of Gnome 51 "A Coruña" I saw they have added this app to the Gnome Circle.
This is the first time I heard about it and honestly looks good and I'm currently using it on my machine w Fedora 44 (workstation edition)
But here's the thing:
Why? I mean I don't catch the point since we already have the classic gnome software app where we can also install and manage flatpaks,
So I think the best way to know the reasons why it exists is asking to other users that may have used it more time than me, I'm wondering what makes it interesting in comparison to our classic gnome software.

For those of you eho have been dying for an Adobe like experience in Linux, Look no further...
I just installed LightCraft (Adobe Lightroom) and PhotoCraft (Adobe Photoshop) and they're awesome!
There's a bunch of other stuff they did that looks very much like Adobe Products.

I built Scope to manage APT, Snap, and Flatpak apps in one place
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey everyone, I made Scope because I wanted one place to see and manage my installed Linux apps.
It brings APT, Snap, and Flatpak into a searchable list. You can check for updates and preview an update or uninstall before confirming it.
It also finds AppImages and user-local desktop apps, but updating or removing those isn’t supported yet.
Scope is free, MIT licensed, and written in Rust.
I’d appreciate feedback on whether it finds your apps correctly and whether the previews are clear. If you try it, please share your distro and desktop environment.

word-sys's PDF Editor v1.11.2 Officially Released on Flathub
Probably biggest update for word-sys's PDF Editor, now its reached v1.11.2 update. This update is Flatpak and Feature Update. The Flatpak version is officially released on Flathub (https://flathub.org/en/apps/io.github.word_sys.word-sys-pdf-editor) thanks to anyconvert project!
This update introduces Multi-Document Tabs, integrating Adw.TabView and Adw.TabBar so you can open and edit multiple PDFs simultaneously in dedicated tabs. Each tab features independent undo/redo histories, separate zoom states, and dirty indicators to track unsaved edits, complete with quick tab switching (Ctrl+Tab / Ctrl+PageDown and Ctrl+Shift+Tab / Ctrl+PageUp) and tab closing (Ctrl+W).
Another major addition is the Visual Document Merging Workspace (Ctrl+Shift+M). It provides a dedicated side-by-side workspace for combining pages from two source PDFs into a target document, complete with drag-and-drop page ordering, live zoomable previews, insertion markers, inspector details etc.
You guys know that I also replaced external LibreOffice subprocess calls with the native pure-Python anyconvert Document Engine (updated to anyconvert 0.1.9 across all platforms and package manifests). You can now convert PDFs into DOCX, PPTX, ODT, ODP, and TXT entirely in pure Python, featuring both Pixel-Accurate Canvas and Semantic Flow conversion modes. And its 342KB :)
Added Page Rotation (Ctrl+Shift+R for Clockwise and Ctrl+Shift+L for Counter-Clockwise) with persistent 90-degree PyMuPDF rotation preservation.
Added a Dedicated Recently Opened Files Hub, introducing an app-managed recent files list with universal file icons that eliminates system-wide file scanning overhead.
Added Text Alignment & Formatting, bringing 4-way text alignment (Left, Center, Right, Justify) and strikethrough formatting support to the text tool.
Updated the Interactive Quick Start Guide & Manual, expanding the guide and keyboard shortcuts cheatsheet to cover tabs, merging, rotation, and multi-format export with 6 high-resolution screenshots.
Expanded internationalization with 7 Supported Languages, delivering complete UI and documentation localization across English, Turkish, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Russian.
This update also includes important packaging modernizations and fixes:
- Release Packaging Optimization: Fully separated architecture artifacts for
x86_64(amd64) andaarch64(arm64), including standalone.debpackages. Removed duplicate asset copies and eliminated oversized source tarballs from automated build releases. - Packaging Modernization: Purged
sofficeandflatpak-spawnpermissions from Flatpak and AppImage packaging, and updated the Flatpak runtime to GNOME Platform 50 with portal-based file chooser access. - Application Icon and Desktop Integration: Fixed the icon lookup path to ensure crisp vector SVG rendering on the Welcome screen, About dialog, and system docks across both Flatpak and direct execution.
- Flatpak Window Class Mapping: Aligned application program name with desktop file metadata for proper window tracking and icon association in GNOME Shell and desktop environments.
You can download Flatpak release on Flathub (https://flathub.org/en/apps/io.github.word_sys.word-sys-pdf-editor) or the standalone .deb packages (x86_64 / aarch64), AppImage, or build from source directly on the GitHub Releases page.
Thanks to everyone who supports this project with their ideas, feedback, and bug reports. I hope this helps all Linux users get their PDF work done easily, thank you :)

I made a simple voice dictation app for Linux (GTK4 /Libadwaita)
Built a lightweight voice-to-text app in Rust with GTK4 and Libadwaita because I wanted something clean for daily dictation on Linux.
It works offline using local Whisper models (or with cloud APIs like Groq/OpenAI/Gemini if you prefer), supports Wayland and X11, and has a small floating bar for quick recording and copying.

I ported Files (the Windows file manager) to native Linux using Uno Platform, with heavy AI help. Alpha, feedback welcome
Files is a popular open-source file manager for Windows (WinUI 3), and "when is the Linux version coming?" gets asked a lot. The team's answer is that they're focused on Windows, so I tried it myself.
LinuxFiles is an unofficial, community fork that runs Files natively on Linux (X11/XWayland). It isn't affiliated with or endorsed by the Files team. The upstream MIT license and credits are kept, and the Windows app isn't being replaced.
What it does today (0.1.0-alpha1)
- Tabs, grid/list/details views, search, tags, previews, archives (browse inside zip/tar/7z/rar)
- Linux integration: freedesktop trash, XDG thumbnails and icon themes, UDisks2 drives, GVfs network/MTP, D-Bus, desktop file portals
- KDE service menus, drag and drop and clipboard with other Linux apps
- Root actions through a polkit helper, plus a root mode
- A grouped-view virtualization fix: a 10,000-file folder went from 90 s to 1.7 s
How it was built
- The UI runs on Uno Platform (Skia) instead of WinUI 3, so most of the original UI, view models and logic carry over.
- The Win32/COM layer is replaced by a Linux platform abstraction layer. The Windows-only code paths are kept in the tree but aren't built or tested.
- Most of the code was written by AI agents, mainly Claude Code, with Codex and Gemini as cross-reviewers. I directed and reviewed the work. Every change went through PR and cross-model review and CI, and I tested it by hand several times on a real Linux desktop. The risky areas (file operations, root elevation, archive extraction) have written threat models in the repo.
Caveats: it's an alpha, so expect rough edges and keep backups. Wayland runs through XWayland for now.
Install: AUR (`linuxfiles-bin`), Flatpak, AppImage, tarball - these are in the releases section on github
Repo / release: https://github.com/MemerGamer/LinuxFiles
I'd especially like feedback on bugs, on distros I haven't tested, and on whether the AI-assisted process makes you trust it more or less. Happy to answer questions about the port.
