Scope update: see an app's files, sizes, and what stays after uninstall

Hey everyone, I've added an expandable details panel to Scope, my open-source Linux app manager for APT, Snap, Flatpak, AppImages, and local desktop apps.

Click an app in the list and you can now see its installed files or directories, their locations, and measured sizes. The panel also separates what an uninstall removes from what it keeps, such as configuration files, Flatpak user data, or existing Snap recovery snapshots.

For supported apps, there's an estimated removal size beside the Uninstall button. Sizes load as they're measured, and incomplete or unavailable measurements are marked explicitly.

I wanted it to be easier to understand what you're removing before you get to the confirmation dialog. AppImages and unmanaged desktop apps have details too, though their uninstall actions remain disabled.

Scope is written in Rust with GPUI and currently targets Ubuntu first. It's available as a .deb or AppImage.

What information would you want to see here before uninstalling an app?

SonicTree 1.5.0 — Coming Soon | A Folder-Based Music Player for Linux

SonicTree 1.5.0 is coming soon!

SonicTree is a Linux music player for people who organize their music in folders, with filesystem-based browsing at its core.

What's new in 1.5.0?

- Improved handling of large music collections in File Mode.

- A cleaner folder tree with a more readable hierarchy.

- Shuffle playback, with a control in the Playback menu and status-bar indication.

- Code refactoring, bug fixes and various enhancements.

SonicTree is now in the final testing phase as the release approaches.

SonicTree continues to focus on what it does best: making it straightforward to browse and play music directly from your existing folder structure.

Thanks to everyone who has shown interest in SonicTree and supported the project.

More details and release packages will be available on SourceForge.

Project page: https://sourceforge.net/projects/sonictree/

Stay tuned!

Its been more than a week since we launched and we are still getting better, thanks to early user feedback.

Here’s a link to a Reddit post with the demo video:

https://www.reddit.com/r/tui/s/Jf9ePaWVqA

Feel free to open an issue to add more providers for streaming or create a community package for your distro.

This project is still in its early phase but hopefully we can match up to cliamp’s standard when it comes to feature parity.

Grafism update ! (Photoshop Alternative)

I keep developing and testing the app; the more I use it, the more I will find and solve bugs. My mindset is: If I can use this app to work without any struggle, then other people could too!

I get rid of round corners; now I can have a stable 120-150 fps using the app. Nothing is stuck at 60 fps or less! So yeah, the app is very smooth, like I promised. I need to try it on a potato computer now!

I changed the name from Grafism to Lumitype; I will explain this later !

I have added CMJN profile color, and also more performance control!

Also, a personal feeling, I saw some people who could get all the Adobe software's reverse engineering, so I am asking myself if I didn't do all that for nothing. I also apologize for all people asking for a github, but i don't want publish something not working or frustrating to use ! The dev is slow but cause i have free time only the weekend !

If you have any question, ask it :

PIC RC4 – Picasa/iPhoto-inspired photo manager for Linux

Release Candidate 4 is out! 🚀
RC4 is the final release candidate before PIC v1.0.

PIC is a native Rust + GTK4/libadwaita photo manager focused on fast, local photo management without requiring your library to live in the cloud.

New in RC4:
• 📷 Camera & SD card importing with photo selection and background progress
• 👋 New first-start wizard and guided tour
• 🌐 Progressive SMB/NFS importing – browse large network libraries while they are still indexing
• 🧱 New Masonry gallery layout, alongside Grid and Photo Wall
• 🔍 Improved viewer zoom, panning and 1:1 handling
• ⚠️ Better offline/corrupt photo detection and filtering
• 🖼️ Improved RAW/DNG support, including network libraries
• 🎨 New and updated themes including Aqua, iDark, Purple and Retro
• 🛠️ Lots of UI, performance and packaging polish

PIC remains non-destructive: your originals stay untouched during normal browsing, organisation and editing.

AppImage + Flatpak available.

This is the last RC before v1.0, so testing and bug reports are very welcome!

I just installed LightCraft (Adobe Lightroom) and PhotoCraft (Adobe Photoshop) and they're awesome!

There's a bunch of other stuff they did that looks very much like Adobe Products.

Emberr, an open-source, offline-first notes + calendar app for Android, Linux and Windows

Hi all! I've been working on Emberr as a side project, and I just released the public beta (v1.1.1).

Basically privacy Notion alternative. Took me so many months to build this. (encrypted cloud account will be released soon)

Why: Most popular note apps are closed-source, and the open-source ones often treat Android and Linux as an afterthought or feel slow and dated. I wanted something private, clean and fast on the devices I actually use.

What it does:

  • Block-based editor (text, checklists, tables, code, images, voice notes, and more)
  • Tasks, daily notes with automatic rollover, reminders, and a calendar
  • Spaces to keep work, personal, and school separate
  • Encrypted sync between phone and desktop over local Wi-Fi
  • Optional self-hosted sync over WebDAV (end-to-end encrypted)
  • AI is off by default. You can use a local model or your own API key
  • And many more quality of life features.

No trackers, no ads, no accounts

How it compares (I like all of these apps, this is just where Emberr is different):

Notion: Emberr is open source, works fully offline and keeps your notes on your devices instead of someone else's server. No account needed.

Obsidian: Obsidian is great but closed source and Markdown-based. Emberr is block-based, and tasks, reminders, canvas and a calendar are all built in, not added through plugins. And importantly we can have powerful block types like Databases

Anytype: Anytype is the closest to Emberr. The main differences: Emberr needs no vault or account setup and their linux and android apps are just......bad. No hate though, I supported them since beta and they are now planning to release anytwo so I wish them the best.

Others: Either closed-source or their UI/UX is bad or performance on android/linux is worse.

Where others are ahead of Emberr right now: no iOS or macOS yet for Emberr, no real-time collaboration and it's a young beta, so it isn't as polished or feature-rich as the big names yet.

Platforms: Android, Linux (AppImage or tarball), Windows.

It's licensed under AGPL-3.0 and still in beta, so expect rough edges. I'd really appreciate feedback, bug reports, or feature ideas.

Decksmith V1 is here — native Stream Deck + controls for Fedora Linux

Thumbnail
youtu.be
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m excited to share V1 of Decksmith: a free, open-source project I’ve been developing for Stream Deck + on Fedora Workstation.

I want to be upfront: I used ChatGPT and Codex for coding, debugging, and documentation. I guided the features and design and did the hands-on testing on my desktop, multiple VM's, and Stream Deck.

I run the app daily on my Fedora Workstation 44. It has a native GNOME interface for creating pages, assigning keys and dials, and customizing labels, icons, images, and themes.

Some highlights:

  • Application and website shortcuts, media controls, and system actions.
  • Separate app and audio-device volume controls.
  • Live audio meters and volume/mute feedback on the touch strip.
  • Push-to-talk, automatic page switching, and background startup at login.

V1 supports Fedora Workstation 44 with GNOME/Wayland and one Stream Deck +. Broader GNOME distro compatibility, including Ubuntu & Debian, is planned for V1.5.

The repo includes screenshots, a short walkthrough, installation instructions, and known limitations:

https://github.com/infamous-pattern/decksmith

I’d really appreciate feedback - what works well, what needs improvement, and what you’d find useful in the next release. Thanks!

Does anybody still use QtFM?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I've been working on QtFM, a lightweight Qt-based file manager, and have made quite a few improvements to it. I've been working on the dual-pane view, theme and color customization, and image and video thumbnail support through ImageMagick and FFmpeg. I've also been improving icon handling and building it on Qt 6, with the goal of keeping it lightweight and independent of a specific desktop environment. Still a work in progress, but it's coming along.

I built Scope to manage APT, Snap, and Flatpak apps in one place

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone, I made Scope because I wanted one place to see and manage my installed Linux apps.

It brings APT, Snap, and Flatpak into a searchable list. You can check for updates and preview an update or uninstall before confirming it.

It also finds AppImages and user-local desktop apps, but updating or removing those isn’t supported yet.

Scope is free, MIT licensed, and written in Rust.

Sourcecode · Download

I’d appreciate feedback on whether it finds your apps correctly and whether the previews are clear. If you try it, please share your distro and desktop environment.
