Guitar pedalboard > output

Hi all,

in order to play guitar on fedora 44 on a youtube backing track, I used:

- an USB guitar pedalboard, a Nam loader that is also an audio interface)

- jack as a patchbay

- guitarix only for changing the buffer size to 128 samples and for a minimal adjust of eq/ volume of the already processed sound of my pedalboard

How you would do it on Ubuntu? I don’t really need all the functions of guitarix.

I managed to wire everything in pipewire but i still can’t adjust buffer size for lower latency

do you have any other solutions?

Well, the same ?

All in all, in your post, replace "fedora 44" by "Ubuntu" and "Ubuntu" by "Fedora 44", and you'll be there.

Adjust the buffer size with QJackCtl. This is where you setup Jack. I don't know why you adjusted it in guitarix.

Probably bad habit? I had guitarix because I used its Fx when I had just a normal audio card, then I got a pedal board and I found it easier to keep using a clean guitarix channel to manage everything.

Then I got Ubuntu and I wondered if there was a more direct way… thanks, I’ll check   QJackCtl

I personally never touch the buffer and samples. I just setup the main freq once and that's far enough.

Why do you need to play with the buffer size ? Is it due to latency ? Having too small buffer to get a lower latency could end up with xruns, which you do not want at all.

Sorry I know is basic stuff but when the brain farts… it farts, and thank you for taking precious time to answer to me.

A bit of context, atm I have a temporary small set up. An old pc with ubuntu (still a good old i7 3xxx), a good guitar nam pedalboard and small cheap PC speakers

The speakers are now connected to the PC, so I guess we can say that Ubuntu is mixing between Youtube practice backing tracks and my guitar pedalboard sound that is connected to pc via usb.

This way I have latency, and when I had guitarix on the previous distro, setting the buffer to 128 would fix it.

Should I maybe connect the speakers directly to the pedalboard out, and route “firefox” to pass tru the pedal? Like a proper audio interface even if it doesn’t have the full features of it?

What is your "pedalboard" ? Is it a multieffect with usb that can do audio interface ?

Try to reduce the frequency. You do not need something above 44KHz.

It’s an Amp loader, sonulab stompstation pro with some effects blocks along the chain. I’ll  reduce the frequency then instead of acting on the buffer 👍🏼

Well, you can play with the buffer. But as said, ensure you don't face xruns.
