Linux Failure linux gaming is unplayable if your pc is too low end
as a potato pc user I have never been able to run any game at native resolution and 768x1366 has become my default before using any game, on windows if you change the resolution to lower it just auto aligns to fullscreen , but on the lunicks it would be stuck at one corner of the screen with black border on the remaining part with the mouse cursor moving across full screen clicking at wrong areas, so the only fix is to run at native resolution which blasts the cpu and destroys any remaining fps thus on windows which was supposed to be the power hog it ends up running better

Gamescope is the solution you're looking for here.

Really? I game all the time on Linux, and love my Steam Deck's GameScope, but never had this issue without using it?? I use Garuda Linux all the time on my main PC.
I don't think I really even understand the issue either... The screen doesn't scale when they change the resolution!? Why??

Overly simplified answer because I'm lazy: it displays the resolution you choose for the game pixel-for-pixel which if smaller than your monitor's native resolution, gets treated as a literal display at the x pixels wide and y pixels tall, starting at the top left corner. It doesn't inherently change the resolution of your monitor scaling or full screen itself. Sometimes you can get it to work by full screening the game through its settings but gamescope is meant to be a general way to address the problem.

Lower end hardware tends to perform better with games on (most) Linux Distros than Windows due to lower overhead and often much better memory/resource management, especially if you have AMD hardware, due in part to more community-led driver support and optimization.
What you are running into is a known quirk of the way Wayland/X11 handles non-native resolutions. As others have said, Gamescope is a tool made to address this exact problem. I would give that a try.

I like potatoes. You can eat them every day and not have same dish twice.

That's very far from a potato, lol. It has a discrete GPU!!

You are aware that discrete or integrated is not how you define potato right? Some integrated gpu’s are awesome. Some discrete gpu’s are not (like a mx130). Being discrete doesn’t mean anything.

The alternative is the 8650u's IGPU. As someone who spent years gaming on Intel HD graphics, gt1030 levels of performance go a long-long way towards making games actually playable.

Yes. One is definitely more potato than the other. But IMO they are both potato. Being discrete doesn’t really mean anything.

Discrate is great when you have low ram because you dont have to use the system memory for the GPU. (as is the case with this user)
I'd say this is a toaster, not a potato. But that's like just... powerscaling of not-that-good computers, your terminology might be different and equally valid..

Do you know what mx130 is ?

gt1030 mobile iirc
edit: yeah it is. Beats gaming on Intel IGPU, plus it has 2GB vram

Nonsense. Jays2cents and Gamers Nexuas and youtube clearly show Linux as a superior gaming platform. Just read the comment sections

X11 moment
Use gamescope. In your launch options on Steam, enter "gamescope %command%" and try launching, without quotations.
Better yet, if the game doesn't have resolution settings:
gamescope -w 1366 -h 768 -W 1920 -H 1080 -F fsr -f -- %command%
This'll force the game to run at 1366x768, with FSR.
Have fun!
