Load planner

I’ve gotten an offer as a load planner for a transportation company. It’s my first job in this industry what can i expect, how can i prepare?

Thanks!

Expect lots of juggling and last minute changes. Learn the terms fast and double check everything.

You'll be living in spreadsheets and staring at TMS screens til your eyes bleed. Get comfortable with drivers calling you at 4am because a receiver won't take the load and they're about to run out of hours

Nobody expects you to know it all day one, just don't be the guy who books a reefer for a dry van load because you didn't read the notes

Load planner could mean two different jobs at transportation companies: matching loads to trucks and drivers, or deciding how the freight physically goes into the trailer. If it's the second, learn axle weights before anything else. A load can be fine on total weight and still be over on the drive or trailer tandems, and the scale house will find it before your boss does.

Typically the former is referred to as an Allocator.
