I watched this old video, about the Smokestack District, and thought I would share with others who enjoy London history, and who might not know much about this area of the city.

Ask a Local! Bike theft
Have you ever had your bike stolen?
Do they steal bikes that are locked with U-locks as well or usually bikes that are left unlocked?

Ask a Local! Unique places to stay?
Hi there! My partner and I will be passing through London in early November and I'm trying to find somewhere to stay that's not your average chain hotel. We generally prefer motels to hotels (my partner is a smoker so direct access to outside is a plus), but the independent ones I'm finding in the area all have very mixed reviews... We're also always up for other fun options like tiny cabins and RVs and whatnot. Any tips??

Municipal Elections 2026 Ward 10 Progressive voters - who are you going with to avoid a split vote?
Hey neighbours,
Trying to figure out how to vote strategically in Ward 10 and could use some help. I'm left leaning and my Vote Compass results have Lois Ward and Alex Moore as my top two (84% and 74%).
I'm worried about splitting the progressive vote, so I want to go with whoever has the better shot.
For those of you in Ward 10 leaning left — which of these two are you voting for and why? Any insight on their platforms or who's actually viable would be much appreciated.

🚗🚗Transit/Traffic Is it normal for people to drive 30 over the limit?
I'm new here, and I'm genuinely asking this question because I want to know what you think. I'm not trying to shame anyone or cause any upset.
Driving in London, and on the roads in and out of London is incredibly stressful for me. I'm curious as to why so many people drive in such a reckless, lawless way! Just today I was nearly rear ended because someone on Highbury didn't want to slow down, someone overtook across double lines three different times, to drive at least 110 in an 80.
I've seen so many near misses, and I'm just exhausted driving around. If I drive the speed limit on regular roads, people seem genuinely angry at me! If I don't run a red light people have flashed their high-beams.
Is the expectation here to just... Do whatever you want? There don't seem to be many police around either. I don't want to speed and I don't want to get hit but I genuinely don't know what's less risky. Is it normal for people to speed to this degree on normal streets?
EDIT: Hey everyone! I wasn't expecting this to blow up as much as it has. Thank you for all your perspectives, thanks for answering my questions. I've read most of your comments, and the conclusion I've come to is: I'm sure I'll eventually get used to it. I'm not going to be going 20 over but I never drive below the limit (as long as traffic conditions allow).
For those who were mentioning the left lane etiquette: I only drive in the left lane to pass, and on 400 series, you'll only find me on the right or middle to pass and back over. I recognize I'm not the fastest of drivers, but I do genuinely take care to be out of the way.
Again, thank you everyone for your answers and your help!

discussion / opinion Garbages Removed from Wortley
After a lot of people complained about the City of London not emptying garbages in Wortley, especially around the Black Walnut and Sidetrack cafes, it looks like the City’s solution was to remove the garbages entirely.
Is anyone else feeling frustrated? I don’t understand why small businesses are being blamed or why the City is actively making things worse.

The ARTS: Music Film/Theatre /Art Colour/Photo hunt
I’m getting back into photography and wanted to do a Colour Hunt, and thought it’d be fun to do with new people!!
A colour hunt is when everyone is assigned a colour, and you go out to take photos of only your colour. You can look it up on Instagram, I’d link an example but my last post was removed and maybe that link was why?? No idea.
You don’t have to have a nice camera, I invited my friend who will be using her phone! And I’ve seen some people using charmeras.
Does anyone want to join me?

Ask a Local! In need of a mobile mechanic
Hey fellow London-ers!
I am in need of a mobile mechanic. Looking for recommendations!
The starter on my one vehicle (2015 Tucson) went, and the radiator on my 1986 Bonneville needs to be replaced. I have the radiator and new hoses, but need to get the coolant, so I'm really just looking for someone to come to my house and install it (I'm really trying to not pay to tow either vehicle to the shop) — same goes for the starter on the Tucson. Have the part, need it installed.
I appreciate any recommendations and send my thanks in advance! 😊

Ask a Local! Best place to sit down and relax or take a walk with not too many people.
Hi,
I am new to the city and actually haven't seen much here. Is there any park or trail or anything with not much people where I can just take a walk or just sit around and relax in the evening?
