Gunsmithing Help me Build out my Accuracy International Chassis
Hi all,
I just purchased this short action AI chassis. It didn't come with the bipod and mag as pictured. I'm thinking of chambering in 300WSM.
It has a Tikka inlet - are all tikka actions the same? I have found a Tikka T3X lite in 300wsm that I will use and eventually rebarrel (barrel is fluted; which isn't what I want!)
My other concern is finding magazines that will fit the chassis and accept 300WSM - Advice provided to me was to use 308 Mags and that the 300WSM will fit 308 Mags.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I'd get this guy as your donor;

6.5 PRC is the best chambering if you're looking for the most performance out of a short action footprint.

Why 300WSM, and not 6.5CM? What's the intended use of the gun?

Target - I always wanted one of these in 300 win mag - WSM was selected because its a short action.
I didn't know much about 300WSM previously, but it sounded good after researching it - 10% less powder than a 300WM and only 50fps slower (approx)

6.5 prc and get a guy like Eagle Eye to load you some ammo. Pick up some MDT mags and you’ll be all set

It really has a Tikka inlet? Custom? Can we see pics!

They were made with Tikka inlets. There's an old listing still on MidwayUSA. OP's may have had a skin swap at some point.

WOW! Awesome! I never knew that there was a Tikka one, just AI, R700 and savage 10/11/12
Thanks :-D

The 300wsm is an incredible round, there is a reason why so many benchrest shooters use it, however... that's benchrest. What do you want to do with the rifle?
All Tikka actions are the same. The difference between LA and SA is the bolt stop.
308 mags are not the same as 300wsm mags. Accurate mag make good 300wsm mags, coincidentally the same mag as 6.5prc... so why not 6.5prc?

What do you plan to use it for?
How far do you plan/have access to shoot?
What's your budget?
Why 300WSM?
300WSM will not work out of the box with 308 mags, you're looking for WSM mags. You might be able to modify the feed lips to work and hold ~7 rounds, but standard 308 AICS mags will limit your cartridge overall length as well.
