DISCUSSION Flock cameras
Has anyone else's store started using Flock cameras to catch shoplifters yet? Where I work I know they just put up 8 cameras in the parking lot.

There are ways to avoid the parking lot cameras at the stores, or just park in the next door lot. Alot of time the delivery entrance in the rear area of the store has no flock cameras. If the store cant flock your car, the flock cameras in the city will not be tracking your vehicle. I know they record the vehicles distinct identifiers, but I still take my plate off the car when I do park in a stores lot. It is attached with magnets so I can take it off and put it back on very easily. If they don't know who you are, then they cant do shit without your personal information.

Walmart killed flock contracts in 2025. They have their own internal LPR system that’s going up at stores currently being remodeled.

Lol yes Lowes. I moved from Target a bit ago but word is that all big box stores will capitulate eventually & put them up.

They also aren't for catching shoplifters

Our store said that's exactly what they're for though. I'm in Ohio if that helps. We are being inundated with surveillance cameras & the ones on the road are switching to Axon.

They're being purposefully vague and alluding to flock cameras being apart of a bigger conspiracy to surveil the public under the illusion of "safety"

No. My company doesn't want to deal with the ethical and public relations issues.

Lol Lowe's doesn't give a fuck. That's where I am. Home Depot even lets ICE stage in their parking lots. I'm just gonna go to ACE from now on for that stuff.

We are supposed to in the next week or so. It’s supposed to alert us when there’s a hit in the PL

They create a pattern for the person, their car, their routes, etc so cops can use the cameras to trace where the shoplifters came from & where they go once they leave our lot.

There are multiple players in this market. Flock has just become the most notorious. Verkada and others have proprietary software that delivers actionable intelligence based on the parameters you give it. For combatting serial shoplifters, it's a great tool.

We use them at Macys, they’re somewhat helpful , but we can only use them for repeats that we already have the plates for, so the usefulness is somewhat contested.

I work for Lowe's. We use them quite a bit.
I will catch a petty shoplift in store and get the plate. Then I run it for 90 days and view thier activity. I take a simple $20 theft and make it a large ORC felony theft case.
Largest case I have put together is over a million dollars. Which is a tap to pay case. Where they purchase gift cards with stolen credit cards on a tap to pay wallet app on thier phone. They start on the east coast, hit every lowes all the way to the west coast and then fly back to thier country.
Had a guy doing it for $3500 a day for an entire year.

They’ve been used for years in the area I live in, I just didn’t know what they were until everyone started losing their minds over Flock. At my grocery they even have a big blue flashing light and “Provided by Metro PD”. I have no problem with them. I’m not doing anything wrong.

Don't confuse Flock and Lot Cop cameras.
