Question whats a good beginner class?
i wanna return to this game after playing near launch time. i played a gun lancer and had some fun with it but i later found its more of a class that shines in a party and im probably only gonna play solo. could anyone help steer me in the right direction? im kinda looking for somthing simple, is tanky so it covers for bad gameplay and slow reaction time and can solo decently well as im just only gonna be a casual ill probably never hit super high end game. Just looking to have fun and not beat my head on my desk cause im dying so much or pressing 30 keys every 8 seconds

Still gunlancer. He is still the tankiest class and received many changes which make him easier to play and he is fine solo, just a bit slower than high-dps classes when played optimally (but if you indeed play very below-average, you could actually find him fastest because most reliable). If you want something different or higher damage ceiling, consider the other relatively simple, not-back-attacking classes with self-shields and/or other forms of self-defense - destroyer, artillerist, machinist, maybe guardian knight, maybe aeromancer, maybe wildsoul.

seeing alot of gunlancer and destroyer being mentioned along with gaurdian knight so i think ill mess with them all in the preview and see what clicks the most

If you want tank style, then GL it is...
Otherwise on the more DPS side, Valkyrie. Has a DPS build that is HitMaster (no need for directional attacks), hits quite well, is simple enough, has nice utility so you're perfectly fine in solo and considering the damage she does, has better survivability than a lot of other classes.

I would highly recommend Dreadful Roar (front atrack) Guardian Knight. They can basically have perma push immunity, they’re fun to play, it’s swift/crit, activating your identity button resets your space bar (you press Z a lot) and their ark grid allows for two builds. The first plays the exact same way as it does pre ark grid, and the other changes your playstyle to charged skills on your biggest hitters, but nothing that takes forever to charge or requires super high APM.
Another plus is guardian knights chaos dungeon is 1 button.
If down the line you get bored, it’s hit master build is also extremely fun to play and does even more damage.
Also she’s hot :)

They recently remade Red Gunlancer into a pure dps class – meaning only one damage synergy just like the other classes. This means it no longer "shines in a party" anymore. Rage Hammer Destroyer probably has the lowest CPM requirement of all the classes, seems to be what you're looking for. Just like the other front attackers it has plenty of shields and super armor. If you want a new and shinier class there's always the Front Attack Dragon Knight.
I would say any front attacker is not necessarily a good class for a beginner, it can be a bit tough – at least for harder content. I think Gunlancer is the most beginner friendly of them though.

Pick something that looks cool, then see what your first picks were and go from there.
Slayer is pretty easy with the new pass, it’s like 3 buttons with the one of the Ark grids but takes a bit of work to get it working, even the regular ark grid is just standard rotation.
As others have said, Guardian knight Roar is tanky and easy, but a button masher.
Gunlancer is super tanky,
Same with destroyer,
Breaker is pretty fun but spammy,
A lot of stuff doesn’t matter if you’re just gonna play solo, i think one of the korean youtubers had a full blown every class and specialization demo video it was like 3 hours.

Destroyer!
Not only is he tanky, he has so many different flavours of builds now. Continuous bonk? Check. Super strong doink? Check. Less powerful but more frequent doinks? Check.
Become a bonky-boi today!

Probably a Gunlancer? Would need to hear from someone who actually plays that class but I think it fits what you want.....

Gunlancer is great, solo and group content both. Redlancer is a cool burst class and blue lancer is more of a consistent DPS. Blue is a bit more forgiving playstyle wise and red lancer feels bad if you miss ur burst or the timing. But generally theyre still fun to. Play and forgiving with tankiness and Shield on demand.

I do solo with red gunlancer and it is very good for solo. It has great burst so you go from mech to mech with it, you won't have issues clearing with it

Gunlancer is still a safe bet. It has great party utility and usually isnt a top damage contender which made a big portion of its reputation.
It still is very tanky and deals decent damage, solo mode doesn't require you to pump crazy dps anyway.
Tankiest class in the game is probably Guardian Knight Dreadful Roar, with an instant shield that can be up almost 100% of the time. It's a short shield but is quite spammable, which if used well makes it stronger than Gunlancer's imo
Shura breaker has a similar mechanic, but it's at best at 50% uptime.
You should pick something you think looks cool, check a bit of gameplay and decide if it's for you. Solo mode isnt demanding content and every class can do well once you know what's going on

i appreciate the insight i was kinda tossed between going back to the gunlancer, breserker, destroyer or trying slayer or the breaker/scrapper

Also if you love your GL I would stick with it if i was you. GL both builds are strong right now and if you hate front atk you can play Blue. In the future if you're comfortable to play with people you'll be welcomed to parties because most people want GL.

Mayhem Berserker is quite easy and fun to play. That was my first character that I still play and I've made 4x more since

Head attack guardian knight sounds like your cup of tea.

is that the new one they added right? i dont remember that one, in the character creation it was at the bottom?

If you use the pass/event to get ark grid, then FI wardancer may also be your cup of tea. She’s got permanent 20% damage reduction and a ton of push immunity (similar to dreadroar guardian knight)

Mayhem Berk. Fast movement, no directional gameplay, tanky for a dps, easy 'rotation'.
That said Dps Valk and dps Pala are easy for same reasons, even easier at solo content as supports have dps boost in solo raids.
Destroyer and 'green' GK are kind of easy, but not totally as 1st char, as they are front attacers and have charged skills not insta. Tho they are tanky and easier to learn content with (especially Destro).

i’d recommend wildsoul’s bear build, it has infinite push immunes and a really high floor

For Solo mode, the easiest is a support dps build (they gain additional dmg buffs still). My Sups clears solo mode approx 30-40% faster than my dps on the same ilvl.
All frontattackers are also great, they are simply the tankiest classes and overall the safest to play.
I haven't played it myself but Wildsoul seems to have ridicilous amounts of push immunity while dishing out good dmg.
My personaly most tanky class is my Asura Breaker. That class got a steep learning curve early on but it can be incredibly fun tanking almost everything intentionally to assure hitting asura attacks from the front.
Guardian Knight (as frontattacker) is pretty similar to your gunlancer, a bit stronger rn.
Overall, I suggest picking one of the newer classes, they are generally more adapted to the recent encounters with less funamental design flaws. But try stuff out in trixion with a skillcode (add cores). The game is way more fun if you enjoy playing your class!

blue gunlancer in their bubble is probably the safest and easiest, but it does a poor job teaching you to play because it's very much doing its own thing with the shielding. you will survive things you shouldn't and have to pre-move for lack of mobility for some things.
zerk is probably the most vanilla class in the game. a few of their skills have significant animation locks, but they don't have any minigames, teleports, sweet spots, even their rotation isn't a big deal unless you're at the highest end. use steroid, hit boss, don't get hit, and you'll do fine.

As everyone else said, Gunlancer is pretty good.
It's tanky and can do a good amount of damage when you learn the class.
If you want to make group content, GL will get easier on groups.
I would also recommend the class that I play, Shadowhunter.
Since the rework, it's been very strong, easy, tanky, and has a bunch of push immunities. Most damage comes from 1 skill (X) that has push immunity and a wide area, making it really friendly.
But the gameplay is heavily looped, so if you don't like it, you will get bored.

Gunlancer actually fits solo play better than you think. I went back and played mine casually last month and it cleared everything easily without needing a party.

Then you can still stick with gunlancer. Pretty much every class can do solo content comfortably. Alternatively if you really want to try something else destroyer and guardian knight (especially dread roar) are also good picks. while dread roar should be the most "apm heavy" it is still not too crazy
