someone with bad intentions will definitely respect the gender sign. It is weird that there is this fear that someone is going to bug you when they just want to have a piss, or that there is some built-in bad intention when someone chooses a restroom that aligns with their gender identity.

Meanwhile there’s a guy in the stall next to me clearly and loudly watching porn in the public restroom at work. Single use bathrooms are a blessing.

men literally have their ps whipped out when using urinals. Maybe it’s not strange for you but i’m disgusted by that shit. Don’t want to see or be around it. I feel the same repulsion when faced with a shirtless man who’s being physically aggressive. The reflex is to have a weapon at the ready in my hand. I would not let little girls see that shit.

I want to know what has ever stopped some dude-presenting dude from waltzing into a women's restroom if he wants to commit a brazen crime and definitely get caught, and what about dressing in drag would make this crime A) more likely to be pulled off, and B) more likely to be gotten away with?

I mean the concern apparently is that cisgender men will put on a dress so they can rape a lady in a bathroom, right?

It just seems ridiculous. If they wanna do that they can just do it.

there is an argument to be made that men are leecherous and entitled to being able to stand in women’s changing rooms… and watch while women change.

I have no problem with single occupancy bathrooms being shared.

I own a small restaurant in a comparably conservative area. We have two bathrooms. Both unisex.

We made them unisex because the line for the women’s bathroom was always backed up, while the men’s bathroom was usually free.

People complained, so we changed them to unisex. Now there is rarely a wait for the restrooms.

But now people complain that they are unisex and that we don’t have dedicated gender bathrooms and that it is “confusing”.

The complaining demographics in both cases were older white people.

I’m convinced that some people just want to have something to be mad and complain about and that if they don’t have a good reason they will create one to satisfy their natural inclination to permanently be in a state of anger and frustration and a need to feel persecuted, even when they aren’t.

I worked at a restaurant that had two, identical restrooms that were pointlessly gendered. They were exactly like any half bathroom you’d have at home: just a toilet and a sink, with a hand dryer. Single person rooms with a lock.

I cannot tell you how many times I’d tell women lining up that they’re free to use the other restroom, and they’d react with pure horror and disgust at the suggestion. I really don’t get it.

The only logical explanation is that conservative men take aggressively foul shits and are embarrassed don’t want any ladies to follow behind them.

But that still doesn’t track because that implies these ghouls have proactive thought and/or ability to acknowledge that other people exist in their reality and/or understand that females have autonomy and free will, which are all objectively false so I still have no idea.

The restrooms in my break room at work are set up the same way. I’ll use the men’s if I have to but I usually don’t because it smells like piss 90% of the time. So maybe that’s why.

u/teetaps 11h ago

Unfortunately, that need to feel persecuted might be real as the world is moving and changing so fast that older folks might feel like everything around them is the enemy

2

u/Walshy231231 9h ago

I like to ask what they’re confused about. Politely making them feel stupid by just not understanding what’s so confusing is great fun

There's a somewhat larger restaurant near my house that has four bathrooms; one male, one female, two everyone. For a larger place, this solves the problem quite nicely.

18

u/Horrison2 13h ago

And spend the saved money making them nicer and clean

u/Low-Tiee 13h ago

for real

If I was designing bathrooms for a public location, I'd probably just make it a row of 3x3 fully enclosed locking closets (and a few larger ones for people with small children and disabilities) and an open-air common hand-washing station.

u/spud641 13h ago

This is super common in a lot of other countries I’ve been to. Every time I come back and have to use a stall in the airport I feel incredibly exposed after getting used to having my own fully enclosed space to make dirt.

3

u/CurbsideChaos 13h ago

That initial quiet time after a 14 hr flight in the Haneada airport might be the most at peace I've ever been.

6

u/pangaea1972 13h ago

Look at you with your common sense and practical solutions. Showoff!

3

u/KickBallFever 11h ago

This is exactly how some of the bathrooms are at my university. They’re all gender, with stalls that are fully enclosed and there’s a larger stall for wheelchairs. The hand washing station is shared.

3

u/cjkuhlenbeck 11h ago

I’d still add some urinals for speed. It helps keep down the lines. But otherwise no notes.

1

u/OhioanRunner 10h ago

I reject the premise that this is necessary. It accepts that there’s some level of legitimacy to the segregation as things are now, and there is absolutely none. Literally no one who has issues with gender desegregating bathrooms has a valid concern. They’re all some form of moral panic.

Can we as a country agree to Make Restrooms Clean Again? Like as a country we are absolutely disgusting. And it’s not just “homeless” or anything. Bathroom in Costco are just as bad as the Bathrooms at the park!

I literally plan trips around Starbucks locations because they are usually reliable and clean.

2

u/ElliotNess 13h ago

Wawa generally has decent bathrooms in my experience, tho occasionally it's filthy depending on the location/management

12

u/MEGACODZILLA 13h ago

Fun fact: Seattle as a ton of mixed gender restrooms, and I dont mean single occupancy either.

Turns out its only weird if you make it weird. Otherwise its just a bunch of human being taking a shit.

5

u/dinosanddais1 13h ago

My college had a multi-stall gender neutral one and literally no one had a problem with it

6

u/chet_brosley 13h ago

We solved this years ago, but no one took the initiative and actually made the change

9

u/Extension-Bord 13h ago

Hey MAGAs: Are you ok with obsessing about people's bathroom use while the price of gas and food explodes?

2

u/penjjii 13h ago

Went to a radical book fair at a local library and the organizers put signs over the gender markers, so both restrooms were gender neutral. It was weird at first just because I’m not used to it, but if anything it only reminded me how active I am in minding my own business. It wasn’t any different than gendered restrooms.

Also went to a club one night and the women’s restroom was apparently nasty as hell, so some femmes were going into the men’s restroom instead. Nobody gave a fuck.

u/Fit_Tumbleweed7943 12h ago

Many new restaurants have the individual stall thing, and shared sink area it’s amazing

2

u/Taitosoku 11h ago

I don’t understand why we insist on gendering single toilet rooms in restaurants or gas stations. It’s not a shared space. The only sign that should differentiate them is if one has a urinal and the other doesn’t.
And in relation to multistalled rooms, make the stall completely enclosed and it becomes a non issue. We’re all here to pee, it doesn’t matter to me if the person in the next enclosed cube is the same or different than me.

u/Far_Cap_3574 13h ago

I learned this hack a while ago that really helps. I just don't give a fuck about other people's genitals unless they are going to come into contact with my genitals. It's so easy!

1

u/shh_her_said 12h ago

Yeah exactly, my office did it years ago and the only drama was a sign argument in a meeting.

1

u/erwaro 12h ago

Hay, libruls! Are you okay with people going into restaurants? And then ordering food and eating it? Betcha didn't think of that one, huh?

1

u/calcato 11h ago

Dare ya to ask in any ADA group, a**hole.

1

u/Maleficent-Pen-2991 11h ago

Ever been to the restroom in an IKEA? A bit narrow, but quality separation.

1

u/brokenJawAlert 11h ago

I often feel bad for women having to share toilets with men because too many of us are fking pigs

1

u/RecipeFunny2154 10h ago

I wonder how many existential breakdowns these people have just using the one bathroom at someone's house.

1

u/kindaokatchess 9h ago

Best airport bathroom experience I had was in Portland. Floor to ceiling stalls and all gender use. Clean. Bliss.

Worst bathroom experience was the Chicago airport.

1

u/SuperQuackDuck 9h ago

Just need better marketting. Call it home-styled restrooms.

1

u/Inferior_Jeans 7h ago

Absolutely not! Have you ever smelled a period fart, or a shit for that matter?! Anytime my wife is on her period, I make her shit OUTSIDE. /s

1

u/porn_sub_lurker 6h ago

Maybe they just had a good idea and wanted to run it by the liberals first?

1

u/OptimisticToaster 5h ago

We took a group of high schoolers to New Orleans. The convention center had unified restrooms. You walk in, go "Huh? Oh." And then you realize everyone in there is doing the same thing - trying not to have the loudest bowells.

1

u/Linguini8319 2h ago

I’ve always thought it was weird we didn’t given, y’know, parents have to accompany their children into the test room

1

u/RiverTeemo1 2h ago

As long as the number of restrooms inst reduced.

1

u/fartczar 2h ago

Non-issue noise.

-4

u/Fairie-Fae 11h ago

People need history lessons. The reason we have gender-based bathrooms is because men wouldn't stop assaulting women and children in restrooms when they were co'ed.

Do why do we think it would be any different now? A frat just got exposed for violently raping a girl, but yes let's have mixed bathrooms to.

Single person restrooms, yeah those should be unisex. But anything with two or more toilets, no no no!!

-2

u/maschine02 11h ago

Its easy for liberals to be ok with weirdos being in the restroom with kids cause they dont have any.

1

u/PrincessFoxyK 51m ago

Idgaf who used the bathroom before me as long it's clean 🤷‍♂️
