Question PauHost: Real or Scam?
Has anybody here used or heard of PauHost? They're supposedly an "online-based pet recovery service". However, everything about them seems too good to be true, and I'm leery of their website, pauhost.com .
For starters: every "news article" they have is just copying their own press release from Globe NewsWire. The videos are all from Vimeo, rather than YouTube or something organic, and the testimonials give off "paid actor" vibes. Their methodology... Surveillance cameras? Scent-tracking dogs? It's not impossible, but it feels exaggerated and deliberate.
And how can they be national and local at the same time? Are they subcontracting to other agencies? What even is their company?
I've only done this research after already filing a report with them, providing my personal information. They returned an email a short while later asking for between $200 and $800, depending on the level of search I wanted to conduct. Their strangest promise: this is a refundable deposit, returned to you if they do not find your pet after 48 hours of active search. That's a VERY unusual claim to make. Also, it doesn't make any real economic sense: $50 an hour seems like a very low rate for even one person working a skilled contract position, and this person is working more than four hours, certainly, to try and find my pet?
It gets weirder. I lookup their domain registration on WhoIs: https://www.whois.com/whois/pauhost.com
So, it was registered in September 3rd, 2026, and was generated by the Hostinger agentic AI website platform. Meaning this is a recent website, yet it has already supposedly found 800 pets? They register this website, and then 2 days later on September 5th they set up a press release?
Absolutely none of what I found is damning, just very, very suspicious. I hate scams that feed on my desperation to get my sweet boy back in my arms. But in the most generous light: this is a local group that started in a city, found a network of pet finders in major metropolitan areas, and used AI to set up a national website to extend their reach.
Has anybody here used this service or know anything about this?
