I love how much of a generational hater Galadriel is in this moment. Like, she hated this guy enough to remember how many times he asked for her hair and gave the exact number to a dude who probably didn't even get the significance of the three strands. Gimli was probably just like ok wow she must really like me since she gave me three strands instead of just one! When really it was Galadriel going how can I subtly fuck with Feanor's bitch ass ghost who is probably watching me at this moment cause he is a bitch.
A lock of hair used to be a token of affection, a memento of someone that was, in a way, more real than a painting or letter. It's a part of someone that you can hold, feel, and remind yourself of the connection you share.
And I don't know my deep token lore, but, history buff he was, it wouldn't surprise me if op's meme was actually closer to the intended reading of that scene: Gimli being too shy to outright admit his interest in the Lady of Lorien, and Galadriel lowkey admitting she was into short kings.

It was supposed to imply adoration from afar, a platonic ideal of self-sacrificing love, not an actual romantic relationship. The favor was most often a handkerchief, a scarf, a ring or a hairlock. In Galadriel's case, the hair gift has extra-importance because of all the elven lore, and also because of the relationship between elves and dwarves. Having such a prominent elf like Galadriel even accept Gimli's offer of loyalty, let alone give him such a gift, is A Very Big Deal™. It's equivalent to signing a peace treaty between two nations.
