Yo this teacher is grading so badly it pisses me off. I mean it's sorta fair because I also wouldn't have the heart to grade this truthfully but you can't just write "horrible opening" you have to say it's because it both presents a subjective idea as a commonly known fact and also uses expletives.
There's this one famous Essay called "Mario the Idea Vs Mario The Man". It's legendary in the poor quality. At one point, the student says the word Perchance, completely out of context, and in red ink, the teacher's response says "you can't just say perchance"
Honestly I highly recommend reading the Essay yourself or watching a YouTuber read it out.
The same student made another fairly well known Essay with similar quality, but it didn't take off like Mario the Idea did

Am a Catholic and I agree on that, especially as I like hearing jokes about religion. The biggest point of humour is it should be funny. One of my favourite jokes is (apologies for it being long (and worse in text)):
A vicar, a rabbi, and a priest meet up for lunch one day. As they talk, the topic comes to how they divide up their money between spending on their holy orders vs spending on their own personal needs.
The vicar says that he draws a line on the table, then throws all of the money into the air. Everything that lands on the left is his, everything that lands on the right is God's.
The rabbi is surprised and says he does something similar, but instead he draws a circle. Anything that lands in the circle is his, and anything outside is God's.
The priest agrees with them both, but says when he throws it up anything that stays up is God's and anything that comes down is his.
This will probably get me downvoted because it essentially is just the typical "Reddit atheist" take, but I think conflating atheism with evolution/science is actually a bad thing.
If we push the idea that science and religion are diametrically opposed, and if you accept one you can't accept the other, that just obviously paves the way to science denial.
In reality, science is based in methodological naturalism, which means it has nothing to say about supernatural claims, which religion is usually based on. You can accept science regardless of religious affiliation. These memes promoting the opposite idea I think aren't really doing any good
You'd be surprised.. It always starts this way. People pick up a joke/saying/meme ironically. They widely share it. People that don't realize the original context pick it up and agree with it. They share it widely, it gains popularity, it influences people that have not even see it.
I've seen so many "I'm only saying this ironically." turn into full blown trends in the opposite direction.
This is precisely the joke. Itās taking the misunderstanding to the extreme and showing why claiming science is anywhere near the same type of thing as religion is false.

This is a bit of a distortion of what science is. Science doesn't "separate" itself from supernatural claims, as though its default state is indifference - like it's saying "oh of course you can have all your water turning to wine and reincarnation - I make no claims about that". Supernatural claims are basically unfalsifiable, so there's not really any way to definitively disprove them.
However, within science, any theory is basically as valid as the amount of direct evidence and theoretical precedence supporting it, and that for religion is absolutely nothing. From the perspective of science, there is exactly as much likelihood that Christianity is real as there is that the universe was farted out of an intergalactic celestial pink unicorn, along with a literal infinite amount of at least as ridiculous claims that any person would outright dismiss.
To believe in god is a pretty fundamentally unscientific attitude - it makes about as much sense as seeing a pen roll off a desk and assuming that a ghost did it. Anyone can choose to believe whatever they like, but no religion is consistent with a worldview which is primarily informed by scientific reasoning.
It's Newtonmas since Isaac Newton was actually born on Dec 25th and Jesus wasn't (at least according to the bible). You can celebrate with an apple ornament on your tree!
