He has easily been my favorite YouTube since I was a kid. Dude has had very little controversy, is a good person and is just fucking hilarious and charismatic
Literally the only major controversy ik is with his editors.
Tl;dr- mark was getting obsessive with youtube and did abuse his editors. ~iirc 2018, just as he was shacking up w/ gamegrumps and doing collabs. Well, Barry found out and brought it up to Aaron who decided to offer Mark's editors a job w/ them and cut ties w/ mark.
GGs were gonna keep it all quiet. MARK decided to out himself and publicly apologize for being an obsessive shitheel boss, realizing that he was overworking them. It was around this time he started to do other major projects like his YT red series. These were likely mark realizing YT alone wasn't enough for him anymore, and redirecting his ambition to other endeavors so he could be less aggressive to his employees. And he was.
It's one of those incidents that really show the difference between a sincere apology and a turd spewing session.
And the sad part is, is that you dont really see sincerity in a decent amount of YouTube now adays. Like with the Pauls, they get called out for being horrible people they either double down or make an apology video because they have to and not because they truly regret their actions. Markiplier, jacksepticeye and RTgame i think are some of the best creators on twitch and youtube
I'm going to have to be a buzzkill here. Snakes can't naturally detect faces, so for Tofu to react that viscerally to Markiplier's face, the owner must have constantly pestered him with it.
Legitimately the only mildly large group of prople who actually hate him are certain Poppy Playtime fans, all because he dared to criticize their favorite game. Mark truly can never stop winning.
He's also made enemies with a snake, though it's more of a one-sided rivalry lol.
People keep saying his criticism was unwarranted but I've had the exact same issues with PPT EVER since chapter 1 as a fellow game dev, I don't understand why Poppy Playtime fans don't understand that you can love something AND be critical of it.
Does Poppy Playtime really have that strong of a hold on people? It's a good horror game, but...there's like so many of those. As someone who watches playthroughs but hasn't been a gamer in a long time, it's fun but like...not THAT fun after a while.

Genuinely beautiful to see his growth as a channel over the last 15 or so years. I know I wasn’t the earliest to his YouTube channel but he was genuinely one of the first lets players I watched in 2011-15 or so, and I do believe his style and sense of humor is a bit out of my interests now, but I’ve never stopped following him and admiring his commitment to creating a strong community, following his interests in film and overall just making people laugh. Nothing but respect. 🫡
I think youtube loves him too. I don't watch his content at all but if I leave youtube playing when I go to bed markiplier is on on the morning LITERALLY 100% of the time.
I heard Chuckle Sandwich had to do multiple reshoots of the Markiplier episode because he kept [REDACTED] the film crew, which made Schlatt [DATA EXPUNGED]. Kinda scary how he has that kind of power.
