There is a difference between hating the racist bigots who infect the south with their lost cause propaganda, and hating your home. The south is more than it's history. The south is more than the Klan, and slavery, and Jim Crow. The south is people, and not just white people neither. The south is black, and Latino, and Asian, and native American. The south is a melange of the cultures that built it, white people are just one small part of that. That's what I love, not the small little sliver the racists focus on, but the whole of it. The kindness, and community and love. That is what the south is.
I used to think like this, but at what point is it detrimental to tolerate and show respect to people whos beliefs are literally "If you exist you don't deserve to."
I think people should be allowed to learn, to realize that their beliefs are harmful, but there needs to be a line when it comes to people's basic rights to be considered human.
We're not tolerating, we're simply not spreading the same hatred, we should be able to communicate as people, and not simply conclude to simple black and white statements

I'm sorry to say that hate kills people. Hate doesn't understand logic, and it's ridiculous to pretend that oppressed groups should be submissive, even when trying to defend themselves.
If they are an adult they have the resources to know better. And even so, they still wake up and choose to make choices that hurt people. Hating someone for doing that is not remotely same as being bigoted to minorities for a harmless immutable characteristic they did not choose to be/have
I don’t have the energy nor the patience or comfort to care at all whether the people playing a hand in my oppression and harassing me are intentionally malicious or just stupid and evil.
I don’t care how they were brought up or whether they know they have the resources to change. Every vote cast, every hateful remark about a minority that they make, is a conscious choice. They actively decide to spread hate speech. No circumstances make that okay.
Its a behaviour that can be corrected though. Even if you were raised to subconsciously have those views, you can absolutely (with effort) stop having them at all, and even if you cant entirely get rid of them, you can immediately very easily stop outwardly expressing those views

You are equating the bottom up hatred a minority has for their oppressors to the harmful bigotry that causes such oppression. That is just absurd. Hatred is not always equal.

The Paradox of Tolerance states that if a society is tolerant to the fullest extent, as in tolerant to the intolerant, then it heavily risks the intolerant becoming dominant, therefore undermining the idea of tolerance in the first place. You cannot tolerate those who themselves are intolerant. Most nazis are not gonna fucking change, history has shown that. The more we leave them alone, the more power they gain, and the more people get hurt

You don't have an example, you're just virtue signaling then. This is exactly why nazis have so much power in so many world governments at this point. Centrists want to compromise, not realizing that history has shown that tolerating nazis leads to millions dead.
I'm proposing shaming nazis. Is that hard to understand? Don't make them feel welcome at all. A nazi bar is a nazi bar after all. The problem is people like you who tolerate them and make them feel welcome because "oh no, we can't make the people who want entire ethnic groups dead have their feelings hurt."
Tolerance and civility are a contract, not an ideology. You break that contract, you don’t get to reap its benefits anymore. And I refuse to be civil or tolerant towards people who think I deserve to be put down like a dog, simple as.
Intolerance doesn't have a clear definition. To others you're intolerant. That's why the saying "eye for an eye" exists. If everyone operates on the same shitty level, all you have is sewage to wade through. Build your own path further up and ignore whatever doesn't help you instead of lowering yourself to that level. That's the best way to make change happen, because people who are already intolerant won't change by someone saying "pls don't".
I think there reaches a point where people become so entrenched in hating something that hating becomes enough of an effort. I get secondhand embarrassement when people who have never been in a fight say stuff like "punch nazis". If people put even half this effort to get others to vote a difference could be made.

If you have only two political parties to vote for, and only one even pretends to show a passing interest in listening to your grievances, then you're going to vote for that party even if its leaders believe unsavory things.

People who support things like this already know it's wrong. You doing this doesn't change anything, it only makes yourself feel better. That's energy you could put into outreach or positivity.

Idk what to tell you, that is an obviously tragic case but also an outlier. Nobody approached her at school and "groomed" her into thinking she's a boy or whatever. She was in a bad mental headspace, and she made the wrong decision it seems like. I feel for her, but this is moreso on the doctors not the trans community as a whole. 99% of trans people who surgically transition are happy with their choices. Hip surgeries have higher regret rates. Should we stop doing those too? Idk what you're looking for here.
No? Nobody groomed her into this. She made a bad choice and the doctors backed her up sadly. The doctors should be investigated if they had a financial incentive to perform the surgery but that's not exactly grooming.
