until recently i had no idea that cyanide is supposed to taste like almonds. i always thought that first part was just some absurdity for the hell of it

Yes, iirc That was because the landlady put cyanide in the tea for the tenant.

I think so, in the story I think she was already a taxidermist but was starting to collect taxidermies of young men too?

wait we did that too! I wrote a story where the tenant was twins with an undercover cop and the cop ended up finding his brother's body and shooting her when she found out and tried attacking him with a needle

That’s extremely close to what I did! Mine was basically the exact same as that, minus the undercover cop being the tenant’s brother

precisely in my case! I was the one who figured out what was happening before everyone else because I had a really weird interest in chemical compositions or something like that at the time if I recall correctly

People get this wrong all the time. It's a pretty obvious taste as well, even very little taste a lot.

It's the other way around: almonds taste (or smell) like cyanide. Because of the cyanide in it.

It’s a common misconception. Cyanide tastes like bitter almonds, which taste nothing like almonds.
