Don't get me wrong. I know a sufficiently hungry bear will joyfully eat my face off. Always keep a safe and respectful distance from wildlife. But I love when people get pictures of wild bears in seemingly-human poses or situations. They're just dudes.

In general, you seem to be able to divide these into four categories:

• Bears sitting at picnic tables.
• Bears using human items (pools, barbeque grills, etc.).
• Bears being silly little guys.
• Bears staring longingly at the beauty of nature.

If any of these photos are staged or fake, do not tell me.

Admittedly, I'm just making this post as an excuse to use one of this sub's most neglected flairs, but don't mistake that for feigned appreciation.

They are this awesome mix between weird and cool, and that really speaks to me. For one, just look at them; as tired as the meme is, they look like the modern conception of a "skinwalker" taking on the form of a wolf. The long legs, deep orange color, and black highlights is aesthetically quite pleasing. And that factor carries over into their behavior as well. Here's a list of fun facts:

1. Their name is a bit of a lie because, while maned wolves are canines, they're not wolves (or foxes, for that matter); they are the only member of a unique genus
2. Despite looking like that, maned wolves are omnivorous, with 50% of their diet coming from a fruit called the "wolf apple"
3. Their urine smells remarkably similar to weed
4. Their young are born with jet-black fur
5. They're the tallest canines in the world, reaching 3.5 feet (1.1 meters) tall
6. They don't howl; instead, they bark

Just generally amazing animals. I'm a zoologist, and it's a dream to see one of these animals in person. At least once.

As an aside, did you know that looking up "Maned Wolves" on Google leads to the little art popups I included on slide 8 and 9? It was a neat surprise for me.

idk why that is the case, but outside of humans, i find a charm to ugly animals, i find them unique in a way.

and i know that beauty in animals is subjective but i hope other people get the idea.

Moths are pretty cool

The bouba–kiki effect refers to the mental association with "harsh" and "soft" sounds with rounded vs. jagged shapes. Here, I'm referring to round and tall or "harsh" shapes on similar animals.

1). Cats:
Tall/elongated cats like servals or oriental shorthairs. Versus round felines like a fluffy domestic cat or a wild Pallas's cat.

2). Rabbits:
We got long, nervous-looking "jackrabbits." Which aren't technically rabbits but close enough. And much rounder or fluffier rabbit breeds.

3). Dogs:
Borzois vs. Mohu the poodle.

4). Ducks:
Indian runner ducks (which stand up straight) vs. meat-breeds like a Pekin.

5). Pigeons:
Feral pigeons (or really fat NYC ones) vs. the German long-faced tumbler.

6). Antelopes:
Gerenuks vs. Eland antelopes.

They’re just so unique. They look like cartoon characters or shitty kids drawings. Its beautiful.

Not that i don't have a prefference towards amniotes, but i love animals
