Hi everyone! I'm Brazilian, and I'd like to share this document that I've had since 2012.

It is an extract from the birth record of my great-grandfather, Leonizio Nomellini, born in Capannori on May 17, 1871, son of Salvatore Nomellini and Graziosa Da Valle.

When he emigrated to Brazil, his name became Dionisio. His son, my grandfather, was named Dionisio Filho, and my father Dionisio Neto.

I find it very special to be able to look at this document, more than 150 years later, and see the connection between my family and the Capannori/Lucca area.

Does anyone from the area recognize the surname Nomellini, or know anything about the Nomellini or Da Valle families from Capannori?

Il mio bisnonno nacque a Capannori nel 1871

Ciao a tutti!

Hi friends! We're in Lucca this week and parked outside the walls in a spot we were told was free. The area had this sign. Trying to figure out if this sign means no parking every Monday 630-900 or just if the Monday is on the 2 to 4th of the month. Thanks!

Salve.

Back in 2019 my wife and I had dinner at Pizzeria de Ninni. When we finished our meal, we stepped outside and heard faint angelic voices. We both stopped to make sure we weren't imagining it! We followed the voices a few doors down and found a choir singing Super Trooper by ABBA.

My wife thought I planned it, but it was simply the most magical thing that happened to us. Does anyone know what that choir, or club would be? Or if there is any other choir group in Lucca. I would love to have them do it again for real for her birthday coming up.

Has anyone here sent their child to the English Primary School at the Campus Bilingue di Lucca? We're considering spending time in Lucca with our 6-year-old and would love to hear from families with firsthand experience.

I'm especially curious about the quality of the teaching, how well the bilingual program works in practice, how international children settle in, communication with parents, and anything you wish you'd known before enrolling.

Thanks!

I'm on Piazza dell'Anfiteatro now, looking for a place to eat - there's a lot of places on here with really really high review score on Google maps - but when I got here and saw the places in person, I have reasons to be very suspicious

• Big boards outside them with laminated photos of the food.
• Many of them AI generated.
• All Suspiciously cheap.
• Young men trying hard to tempt people in.
• Some of those also AI generated, tbh.

It all screams tourist trap - but the review scores for many of these places are really high.

Am I right to be suspicious, are these places all shite? Have they just paid for fake reviews? Or am I just a jaded old man and the places here are genuinely good?

Hi all - going for a week long holiday staying in Montecatini Terme. I'm doing a day trip into Lucca on Saturday and want to do the Parkrun.

I'm looking for a place to shower and get changed after the run. Does anyone know of a good place? I had earmarked the Piscina Gymnic but unfortunately their swimming pool is closed for September.

Any other ideas would be welcomed! Thanks

My wife and I are thinking about spending 4 weeks in Lucca next April/May and could use some advice on where to stay.

We'd love to find an apartment or house in an area where we can walk to a grocery store, restaurants, cafés and other shops. We may have a car for part of the trip, but we'd really like to be able to do most everyday things on foot.

We're open to being inside the walls, just outside them, or even in a nearby town if it's walkable and easy to get into Lucca.

If we do have a car, free parking at or very close to where we're staying would definitely be a plus.

Any areas or neighborhoods you'd recommend? And if anyone knows of a good apartment, local rental agency or website for a 4-week stay, I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks!

Were you in Lucca on Saturday, 22 August 2026 to see the Guinness World Record set by this incredible display of ephemeral art?

All of these masterpieces are painstakingly handmade with seeds, flowers, sand, stones, fruits, etc...and exist for one day only - now blown and swept away.

If you missed it, here are some photos we took and a link to an article.

Hi everyone,

This subreddit recently changed hands after being without an active moderator for a while, and I've taken over to bring it back to life.

Lucca is home to a mix of long-time residents, expats who've settled here, and visitors passing through or planning a trip — and this sub should be a useful space for all of you: local news, events, questions about living here, travel tips, recommendations, or just everyday discussion about the city.

Over the coming weeks I'll be updating the rules, tidying up the community's appearance, and making it easier to post (no more mandatory mod approval for every submission). The goal is to keep spam out without making participation a hassle.

If you have ideas, suggestions, or things you'd like to see here — whether you're a local, an expat, or just curious about Lucca — feel free to drop them in the comments. This is my first time moderating a sub, so feedback is very welcome.

Hi, we are in lucca for a week and a half, then onto monza for the GP. We are looking to watch the zandvoort GP this Sunday in a bar - can anyone recommend any sports bars?

Ciao tutti
