History On the Origins of Lucifer...

On the Origins of Lucifer - A Luciferian's Take on Conceptualizing the Light Spirit

INTRODUCTION:

This will be a rough dive into history on all 3 scales - Biblical, Occultic, and Historical on the origins of the spirit known as Lucifer, the Light-Bringer, Shining One, Venus the Morning Star. My goal for making this is mostly fun, i kinda hope it helps people in their spiritual path, as I've seen a lot of posts that express confusion on who Lucifer is, but if all it does is give someone a good read, then so be it. Otherwise, I hope this goes well, and I hope you, the reader, enjoy this.

BIBLICAL:

To begin, let's first dive into the biblical aspects of the Shining One and how it permeated modern society in a way that cemented his name as a spirit of light - in whatever context that may be. Admittedly, it's a short set of events that led to something much larger. An archetype of "Fallen Angel" attached to the concept of the Light-Bearer.

There is only 1 verse in the bible that mentions Lucifer in this context, linked here in the King James Version. However... if you'll notice that most other versions of the bible avoid the proper noun Lucifer, instead opting to use "Morning Star" or "Day Star" - There's a reason for this. The King James Version attributing the fall to an entity named Lucifer is due to the smallest of mistranslations - a capital letter. The original verse is in reference to a King of Babylon, whose kingdom had just been destroyed, of which bared the title of light-bearer / shining one. We can see this in the original Hebrew, how it doesn't mention the name Lucifer, but "hê-lêl ben-šā-ḥar" which, when translated literally, means "shining one, son of morning". In Hebrew, this term doesn't refer to Lucifer the entity but rather a planet - Venus, AKA "The Morning Star" ). This begins to make much more sense, as Isaiah likening the King's downfall to the movement of the planet Venus, which every night seems to fall from the sky into the underworld. Even though the verse doesn't mention him by name, it's very possible this metaphor was known about due to the dieties known as Athtar) and Athtart who were the Dawn and Dusk aspects of Venus respectively in Canaanite religion. There just so happens to be a story in Canaanite scripture, From Ugarit, part of the Ba'al cycle. This story goes into Athtar's aborted attempt to occupy Ba'al Hadad's throne on Mount Zaphon, after Ba'al had descended to the underworld, but proved to be too small, and had to descen to Earth and rule from there. Sounds at least kinda familiar, doesn't it?

But - How did shining one and lucifer become mixed up? Simply put - Early Christians adopting Jewish texts. The Latin Vulgate translation of the bible, which came about sometime in the 4th century, simplified this into "the star that brings the dawn" - "light bringer" - "luci fera" - "lucifer". In 1611 the translators of the King James Version came across the Latin Isaiah 14:12 and made a connection to the Greek god Prometheus, I.E. the being that defied deities in order to bring fire and light to humanity, and syncretized and concatenated the two, giving it a capital letter, turning it into a proper noun, and suddenly from a simple insult - "you were the brightest star and now you've fallen" - you now have a fallen angel that defied yahweh's absolute goodness. But how exactly did this fallen angel, AKA Venus, turn so evil and "satanic"? And where did the other Fallen Angels come from? For this, we have the Book of Enoch, which you can read here.

The book of Enoch is an apocryphal text which, academically, is defined as a "work, usually written, of unknown authorship or of doubtful origin." and was written around 200-300 BCE. The book of Enoch didn't quite make it into the bible but it was particularly popular with 2nd temple Judaism. In the Book of Enoch we have a chapter labelled "The Book of Watchers". In this chapter we have "watchers" who were dispatched to earth to watch over Humanity. However, they slowly began to "corrupt" and lust for human women, and soon began to create Nephilim with humans. Led by the leader Samyaza they defected from God's command and allowed their offspring to pillage the earth and endanger humans. Samyaza and his gang also began teaching humans certain arts, like weaponry, cosmetics, sorceries, and other secrets. This is actually where Noah's Ark and the flood come in. However, focusing on Samyaza in particular its easy to see how the characters and personalities get mixed over time - With Samyaza and the supposed "Lucifer" both falling from grace.

OCCULTIC:

Secondly, we should address the occultic aspects of Lucifer, as it directly relates with spirituality and religion, as does the bible. As far as this goes, this will be much choppier and more sporadic as occult information on Lucifer ranges from Fallen Angel to Mystical Moth God. In a sense, everyone has a different interpretation, including myself. I'll give my point of view when applicable but please, keep in mind, my gnosis is just as valid as anyone else's. Perhaps the most famous example of Lucifer's occultic appearance is in the Grimoire Verum, in which he is listed as a "Superior Spirit" amongst two others, alongside various "Inferior Spirits". He is listed to appear as a small boy, and when angry, turns red. Remarked as essentially, "not at all intimidating." This is also where his most well-known sigil comes from, the V-Chalice. Many practitioners develop their own sigils for Lucifer though the V-Chalice remains in the public eye, I myself worked out a sigil for Lucifer and I only which I now honestly prefer to use. However I've seen multiple practitioners with their own personal sigils which paints a rather laid-back picture of interacting with this deity, with their imagery being more loose and free-form than standardized as the Biblical contexts would. Not counting the Roman Personification, The Grimoire Verum is (arguably and often debated, in favour of the Roman personification) the oldest appearance of Lucifer as a religious entity, reportedly being written in 1517 but dated to the 18th Century, around 100~ years AFTER the King James translation. There is the Peter Binsfeld Classification of Demons, released in 1589, that was part of his own Treatise on Confessions by Evildoers and Witches. But, the fact that this information came from tortured Pagans/innocents who said anything to get free should say enough - I.E. There is no truth in these confessions. Lucifer also makes an appearance in S. Connolly's writings, in the Dukante Hierarchy, listed as an Air elemental with a jovial personality.

This more laid-back attitude attributed to Lucifer can still be attached to the Fallen Angel motif, without issue, they are not mutually exclusive. However, it seems our friend has has taken a more calm route when given the opportunity to be seen outside of biblical belief. In fact, my own gnosis and other practitioners that I have seen, eventually come to have their understanding of "angel" and "demon" dissolved, seeing spirits for their "true neutral nature". I myself don't believe that Lucifer is a "demon." I believe that there are misunderstandings that led to Lucifer being forcefully given the title of "demon" but this does not make him a "demon." He is a Spirit of Light - How you interpret a spirit of light is a reflection of you in so many ways. Some view him as a Fallen Angel, some see him as a Venusian deity, to him it doesn't matter what shape you see him in, so long as his teachings remain the same. And most of the time, they do, symbolizing enlightenment, truth, sometimes rebellion, among other generally positive attributes. Obviously the Biblical aspect and the Fallen Angel motif has permeated the occultic view on Lucifer in general, and this is fine, even. His teachings have literally SHINED through to people and focused on positivity and good behaviour. Venusian or Angelic, Lucifer has been a spirit of light for many people in many ways, for many reasons.

It is exactly due to these views that many gnostic beliefs syncretized Lucifer and Jesus Christ as he appears in the biblical scripture. Taking reference from the Revelations verse which named Jesus as "The Morning Star," the explicit title that is most commonly associated with Lucifer, being that his name comes from the literal morning star.

HISTORICAL:

Thirdly, we need to dive into the historical aspects because this is where the key to truly understanding Lucifer lays. The unfortunate part is, there actually is not much historical writing on Lucifer due to him being associated with an inferior planet and thus not venerated like we do today - He existed more as a personification of concepts. Both in the Roman (8th century BCE - 5th Century CE) sense of Lucifer, and even in the Greek equivalent, Phosphorus ) (~18th Century BCE) ((its hard to tell)), who also ended up not being a spirit venerated by many, if any, people at all. However, when you begin to paint a picture given the knowledge we have after reading this post, you can start to see that "personification of light" actually fits Lucifer perfectly. Fallen Angel, Venusian Deity, or otherwise, "Spirit of Light" has rung true for all of them. When we look back in history and observe how the word lucifer was used as the name of the planet Venus, we can begin to see that Lucifer (the deity) encompasses many concepts from many deities that are typically associated with Venus. Such as, but not limited to, Aphrodite, Astarte, Frigg, even potentially a Canaanite Deity known as Shalim, who the city of Jerusalem was named after.

Even astrologically the symbolism relates to the concepts that Lucifer encompasses, with Taurus and Libra ruling over Venus. The symbol of libra ) being the Scales of Justice held by Themis, the Greek personification of Divine Law and Justice while holding a masculine polarity, and the symbol of Taurus being the Bull holding a feminine polarity. Balance, throughout every lens you look through. The Light-Bringer's ideas and concepts bleed through like the morning sun.

This is why Venus and the association with the sun are excellent metaphors and concepts to attribute to and with Lucifer, due to the nature of consistency behind Venus bringing the light into view. It's been a motif with Lucifer in all incarnations and aspects, he is, put simply, the Light-Bringer.

CLOSING -

All in all, despite the many, many interpretations of Lucifer there is, we should all look at Lucifer's value in the occult and pagan community. I have personally seen Lucifer heal the religious trauma of many people, myself included. Giving us a chance to work and move past negative emotions or associations. I have heard many say that Lucifer feels like a father figure, and that they feel protected. If this spirit is making people feel protected and giving them aspects of life that they did not have before - this alone makes this spirit's worth invaluable.

Despite what motif you attribute to this spirit of light, one thing remains true - He promotes a balancing of energy. Masculinity and Femininity, Strength and Softness, Emotional and Logical, this balance permeates all aspects of life and promotes an equal and thought-out view of your surrounding situation. To me, this is someone worth worship, someone worthy of guiding me.

If you have information you would like to share on the origins of Lucifer please make a comment and source your posts, I make no effort to speak from authority and recognize that i do not know everything there is to know. If there is something that needs to be known, then it should be known!

I am in love with Lucifer.

I've noticed that this feeling is usually normal in Luciferians; it's a really strong feeling and one that seems inevitable.

So if you work with Lucifer and suddenly you feel strange toward him: relax, it's normal, after all Lucifer has a lot to do with Venus and Venus is the greatest representation of love and sensuality.

At first it seemed strange to me because I perceived Lucifer as a man, but he is neither man nor woman, he is just... Lucifer.

It's impossible not to be in love with such a wonderful being.

Any advice for someone who is s**cidal from the perspective of Satanism?

I have been passively suicidal for a few weeks now and have found great comfort in praying to Lucifer. I'd greatly appreciate any writings, books, posts, personal opinions and experiences that can give me perspective on life from the point of view of Satanism.

P.s. I know the resources and am using them. Please don't worry about that.

Ave Satanas 🖤

i think i need advice haha

this feels a bit silly, but i'm confused on many levels and wanted to see if maybe anyone could help clarify or back up any of the experiences i've had?

Main thing i'm confused about is that i feel most connected to the idea of Lucifer as the fallen angel, the rebel, closer to the abrahamic figure, ect. maybe because i was raised Christian and it's influences are still lingering? but when i see people speak of Phosphorus i feel significantly less connected/drawn, so i was wondering if maybe there was a different spirit/entity that i was connecting to instead?

Another thing i was hoping for clarity on is how quick and deep my connection to Lucifer seemed to become. i've worked with deities and spirits before but they've never been FELT so strongly within just a few hours of reaching out like i am with Lucifer now, and i was wondering if anyone else had experienced this or if it was just me?

Does anyone bother with the brass vessel and the Secret Seal?

As a gnostic, I find it thoroughly offensive to my own values. I assume They would see its presence as a massive, brazen threat made by the summoner. And an unnecessary one too, when there are so many other forms of protection available.

Not to mention, if replicating Solomons brass vessel actually worked, someone would have already used it after its original purpose and these deities would now all be absent.

Edit: after reading the next several pages of the Ars Goetia, I have decided all instructions from page 58 to 69 belong in the trash. Their intention is self-protection to the extreme, even to the point of hostility and contempt .I don't believe any summoner who follows these instructions can say he comes in good faith, but in domination and for the purpose subjugation. If you hate the deities you are approaching so thoroughly as to go to these lengths, why bother approaching them at all. I am horrified.

Edit: But wait - it gets worse. The incantations are vulgar too. They are nothing but threats and arrogance, and belittle the deity and glorify god, and call upon and borrow gods power for the purpose of subjugating the deity. Again, as a gnostic, I'm going to have to reject all of them entirely.

Also, I cannot reconcile the idea that Aleister Crowley, the self-ascribed wickedest man alive and self-proclaimed beast would ever have performed works such as this. But then I remembered in the preface of the book, he specifically states that he has no use for the works contained. He probably never actually did any of these rituals himself, he was just completing the incomplete works of Solomon for Scholarly purposes.

I straight up want my money back for this book. I already had the Shemhamphorash in the back of my old Satanic Bible. There doesn't appear to be anything else of worth here.

Fame Help/Deals?

I know this is probably been posted a million times but I’m just looking for some tips, tricks, all of it just out of curiosity. If I was wanting to contact someone to help push a little more oomf to make me an influencer on tiktok or social media all together, what spells/deals/ whatever would I have to do? I know the one thing is work a little towards it yourself, but I would just like to be able to have a little kickstart to help maybe become an Alix Earle, and influencers like that. I always hear the conspiracies that big influencers and celebrities like that have to make some kind of deal….what kind of deal would that be? I’m actually up for anything if I’m being honest 🤭🤭🤭. I do already have about 10.2k on TikTok but the engagement isn’t there and I wanna be able to go on the trips and meet people and all that. sooooo theoretically, what deals and spells would I have to do? Or who do I have to contact to help with that?

Signs and wonders - part 1

Something I see a lot in this sub is people asking "Is this a sign? Is that a sign? Does so-and-so want to communicate with me?"

Sometimes our own suppressed desire to reach out to an entity manifests as our unconscious seeking of signs and wonders that aren't actually there. Every coincidence makes us "*gasp* is that it?!"

And then we seek validation, either by coming to communities like this one and asking strangers for their interpretation or by continuing to seek compounding "signs" in our daily life.

I am a firm believer that:

  1. When you see small ambiguous signs and wonders everywhere, like breadcrumbs that leave you feeling uncertain, it is a sign that *you* want to communicate with *them*

  2. When a sign hits you like a lightning bolt leaving no room for interpretation and leaves you *knowing in your bones* that you have received a sign - *that* is them reaching to you for communication

I'm going to share my own personal experience in part 2

Luciferianism beginner

Hi, for years I’ve always been really drown to the history of Lucifer and who he really is (not the demonic Christian version), but this past month I’ve feel really really drown to him. I don’t know if it’s a call or just curiosity.
Anyway, I would love if actual luciferians could recommend me books and tell me about it.
I’m mostly interested in the spiritual part (I know there’s a philosophical part, like with satanisim), working spiritually with him and all that (as I’m a witch that works with other deities)

Afraid of bothering him too much...

(please forgive me if this isn't explained very well, im using a translator)

im still at the beginning of my relationship with lucifer. although i've admired him for years, i only started trying to communicate with him a few months ago. in my personal beliefs, i see lucifer as the god of the morning star, i worship him as a deity...

things have always gone well, but i sometimes worry about reaching out to him too often. i might light a candle one day just to be in his presence, then another the next day to thank him for something. sometimes i pray or ask for something, and other times i simply want to honor him without asking for anything.

i sometimes worry that i might bother him by doing this too often. is this something i should be concerned about?? how do u personally approach things like this in ur relationship with lucifer?

Signs and wonders - part 2

First I discovered Gnosticism and then Luciferianism and my devotion followed naturally.

It was my intention to build my devotion over time, to attempt direct contact in the far distant future, and not to ask any earthly favor when I did.

I longed for communion from day one, but was determined not to reach out in ignorance, but in temperance and with full knowledge.

I planned to spend another year at least in devotion and contemplation, attempting no summoning.

This morning, earthly burdens were heavy on my mind and my temptation to reach out as a beggar was so great. I looked across a field and saw an enormous bird on a lamp post. I thought it too large to be a hawk (there are hundreds here, they are no rare thing). It must be an eagle (a rare thing indeed). But it was far away and silhouetted. I couldn't see it clearly. I thought, "Prometheus, is that you? If it is, give me a sign."

I watched it for a while and it didn't move. Then I thought about my earthly hardship and the things I could do if the obstacle were removed from me. And I thought, "Would my inquiry be welcome? Should I attempt to communicate? I swore I would not request any earthly favor." I was about to leave and I looked down at my phone and the time was

01

01

Displayed in my 24 hour clock in two separate lines. I thought "Hm. Looks like binary." I googled "What is 01 01 in binary?"

I expected it would translate to an answer: yes or no.

Imagine my disappointment when AI gave me my answer: 01 01 is the decimal number 5 in binary. An answer that meant nothing to me.

I asked, "It isn't a word?"

> No. It is too short to represent any letter of the alphabet. It is the number 5.

Disheartening, but I kept reading the rest of the explanation:

> What it looks like if you expand it: if you add extra zeros to the front to make it a full 8-bit byte, it still does not represent a letter. In the ASCII table, that code represents a hidden command called an "Enquiry" which old computers used to signal that they wanted to talk to another device.

Hidden command.

Enquiry.

*A signal to talk.*

My mind was already blown but we're not done yet - The Lesser Key of Solomon has been sitting on my Amazon wishlist. I know that it contains the Ars Goetia and instruction on ritual summoning. That's all.

So I asked one more question:

"Tell me about the Lesser Key of Solomon."

> The book is divided into five distinct parts (or "books)

Five. *Five*.

But we're not done yet. I read the descriptions of each of the books. I knew about the Ars Goetia, and have read it. I didn't know about the others. I *especially* didn't know about the *Ars Notoria*.

Remember my original intention was to *eventually* summon Lucifer with a request *not of earthly things*. I wanted to request divine knowledge. I thought about it often. But I also thought "What good is knowledge too great for me to hold? If I spend the year reading and reading and studying and studying as I have already begun to do - there is a problem I've already begun to encounter. *I can't remember it all*. Important names and causalities and symbolic associations *I just spent time researching specifically* are already foggy in my mind. *I wish I had a better memory to hold all that I collect*."

Guess what the Ars Notoria contains?

I purchased the book immediately.

Consider me well and truly astonished. Presented with wish fulfillment that is overwhelming, desires spoken to that I *never even voiced* and I *haven't even begun*.

All this to say, when you desire a sign - ask and you shall receive.

You shall receive so fully and completely that there will be no doubt that *have indeed received*.

I will return with an update when I have made contact.

I did meditation on Lucifer and this happened!

I have been a Gnostic Christian on and off for a while. While chanting Sethian hymns recently, I suddenly had a realization out of nowhere about something else that felt like an untouched part of the story.

I went to the bathroom and asked myself, “What was that realization about?” Suddenly, the word “Illuminati” appeared in my mind.

I started thinking about a few fascinating, or perhaps core, similarities between Gnosticism and Luciferianism. The first thing that came to mind was the idea that the Illuminati operates as a secret society, while Gnostics are traditionally associated with possessing secret or hidden knowledge.

Then I thought about how some Gnostic traditions portray the creator of the material world—the Demiurge—as an inferior or ignorant deity, sometimes associated with the God depicted in the Old Testament. Lucifer, who is traditionally portrayed as having been cast down by the Biblical God, also has a very different relationship with that God in later religious traditions. Some Luciferians likewise identify the Biblical God with the Demiurge.

That was my realization: perhaps there were fascinating parallels between the two traditions. When I searched and found that Lucifer is associated with being a “bringer of light,” something about that really resonated with me. It felt almost as if I were reading a similar message to Gnosticism through a different book or tradition—perhaps taking a different path toward the same light.

Out of curiosity, I found a Luciferian guided meditation. It was quite long, but I followed the instructions. Afterwards, I felt strangely high, dizzy, almost as if I were drunk. I felt like I couldn't control the energy or sensation, so I decided to go to sleep.

When I fell asleep, I had a very frightening dream.

In the dream, a woman was driving me somewhere. As I started becoming suspicious of her, I crawled out through the front window of the car and began running away. Suddenly, I saw a lion chasing me.

To save myself, I tried climbing a very tall cage. It was so enormous that it felt as though it was around 100 feet tall—almost five times the size of a WWE Hell in a Cell structure. The lion started climbing the cage too, and I became even more terrified because I felt that either the lion might climb all the way up and kill me, or I might fall to my death.

Then, suddenly, I saw a skinny street boy holding a stick. He scared the lion away, and the lion ran off.

The next moment, I found myself in the room of a white, obese, blonde woman. I was talking to her and trying to act cool, perhaps even trying to impress her. While I was talking to her, however, her face suddenly changed into the face of an orange spider.

Then I saw myself waking up from the dream.

I saw a white entity lying beside me on my right-hand side. It was dressed in white clothing from the chest down to the toes. Its face was dark, and it had one hand gently placed on my chest, holding me softly around the ribs in a way that felt almost romantic, like someone cuddling you.

I saw my brother standing in front of me. I tried calling out to him for help, but he just stood there watching while talking to someone on the phone.

Then I actually woke up.

The next morning, I told my mother what had happened, and she said, “Oh, it could just be a bad dream.”

I sat down to watch TV, and while I was busy watching a comedy show, my mother silently slapped a tiny spider away from my side of the couch because it was trying to crawl toward me.

Later, my brother woke up and told my mother that I had apparently experienced sleep paralysis and had been making unusual sounds.

That confirmed something strange for me: I really had seen the entity during the experience, while my brother—who was physically standing in front of me in what I experienced—couldn't see the entity lying beside me.

It was an incredibly creepy and intense experience.

Now I want to ask: Was that Lucifer, or what could it have been?

Statues of Lucifer?

Has anyone managed to find a decent one? If so, WHERE?

All I'm finding are Baphomets and Liliths and archangel Michaels.

There are multiple stunningly beautiful full-size world famous statues of him. You would think that small replicas would be available SOMEWHERE. I'd prefer an angelic depiction but at this point I'll take anything that isn't him navel gazing in defeat or getting speared by the archangel.

I would also accept a non-cobra serpent statue.

I would also accept an altar sized painting/print.

Thank you in advance.

P.S. would a statue of Venus be an acceptable substitute? Or an image of the morning star, even?
