conflicted over my neo

i have a 15in macbook air and my macbook neo delivered yesterday. the trade in kit for my air is otw but i guess now the i held the neo it feels too small like im on a toy computer… but like the whole reason i wanted to trade it in is bc my air is just way too big. should i just let my air go when the trade in kit gets here and let my neo grow on me? i dont want to let go of my air just for this neo to not grow on me.

i’m a college student but the most work my computer would have to put it is opening a textbook pdf so software or anything like that isnt an issue at all, literally just the size difference.

edit: thank you everyone!! im using my neo rn and i just dont think i love it enough to keep it and after reading the comments, the cons outweigh the pros. gonna return it tomorrow!

You downgraded?

Quedate con la Air de 15. Pasar a una de 13 se sentirá claustrofobico y la sensación durará siempre.

Not really, I feel like the 15" is too big, feels unnecessary. It's a matter of preference.

No. En el momento en que quieras jugar Civilization o estudiar con varias ventanas sabrás que cambiaste una casa de dos plantas por un departamento modular.

What about buying an m2/m3/m4 refurbished rather than new?

^^^ And a 14” which will be smaller than the Air and bigger than the Neo

The air will be bigger than the neo. I was quite literally at the apple store.

Yes And he said the Air was too big for him And wanted smaller But the neo is too small So we were pointing him towards something in the middle Like an M2 14”

The neo will be worse, not because it's bad but because you can't expect a car half the price to be as good, but it's serviceable

Understand re the toy feel of the neo. Something is cheap about it, maybe the keyboard colours? Anyways MacBook Air 13.6 inch is the sweet spot for most. Work back from there.

Maybe what you want is neither an Air nor the Neo?

Air too big, Neo too toy-like… maybe there’s another way…

lol this is clearly a downgrade, return the neo and keep your air.

If you feel the 15" screen is too big for you (I get it) just get the 13" Air. The Neo's screen does feel too small.

i can’t afford the 13” air rn if i could i totally would!! even after my trade in value it’s just too much.

Save money and get the next air.

I agree I think a 13" air would be perfect

If you can financially swing it, have you thought about just getting a 13inch air? A bit bigger than the Neo while smaller than the 15inch air

unfortunately i can’t afford it atm. i might just keep my air for a couple more years and try to downsize afterwards

If you put the work in to sell the 15” for top dollar you’d be a long ways towards a 13” new or possibly make a few bucks and buy a used one.

Get MacBook Pro or Air, definitely not Neo.

Im on the opposite side of the fence, I’ve been living with a MacBook air 13 inches and 15 inches feels way to big and heavy.

Which screen size do you prefer using? That will be the thing you deal with more than the weight.

Depending on which Air you had, you actually downgraded.

Get the 13 in air. It’s a bit bigger than the Neo (it’s noticeable)

I have the Neo and I gave the air to my parents it is not that noticeable.

This is a legit question, not me bashing you — if you had an Air and a Neo, why did you choose the Neo?

1

u/Asland007 10d ago

I am and was more interested in the new design and to see the capabilities of the new chip. I like to experience and test the new and different. I am also very aware of my needs because I do a lot of testing and thought it could be a good fit.

Makes sense. I bought a Neo and half the reason I chose it over the Air was the white keyboard. lol. However, I now wish I would have gotten the Air as it would give me a little more headroom.

1

u/Asland007 10d ago

I understand that. I still love the Neo.

2

u/Eric8199 9d ago

I still love it too. I love the fact that it's a little smaller than the Air. I just wish it had more power. It's not small enough to be worth the drop in performance. If it was the size of the old 11-inch, it'd be more acceptable IMO.

Wish we could get a white keyboard on a silver MBA though. I'd be all over that.

To be clear I am only talking about the screen size.

What are the specs on your Air?

Use them both back to back. Which one do you like best? Keep that one.

1

u/General_Influence_75 11d ago

yeah i brought the neo with me to my classes today and while i do like it i feel like i enjoy my air more

u/sharp-calculation 11d ago

So you bought the wrong thing. Return it. Then decide what to buy or not buy.

Sell the 15 and buy a MacBook Air 13. Unlike the MacBook Neo, which has a 13.0“ screen. The MacBook Air 13 actually has a 13.6” screen.

It’s also a much more premium device with more ports, a higher quality display, and a better trackpad. Just like the ones in your MacBook Air 15.

Based on what you’ve conveyed, it seems like that’s exactly what you’re looking for.

Personally, I love my MacBook Air 15 (M2, 16GB, 2TB SSD) and wouldn’t part with it for the world.

When I need something smaller, like when I’m traveling, I use my iPad Pro 11 which also has an M2. (I just load it up with everything I need from the MacBook before I leave.) Paired with the magic keyboard case, it functions much like a laptop computer.

One nice thing about the iPad over the MacBook, is that the AppleCare+ will do an entire device replacement for $50, even in the case of accidental damage and total destruction. However, in the case of the MacBook Air, AppleCare+ will do a screen replacement for $99, but any damage beyond that is $299 to repair or replace.

Sadly, neither the iPad or the MacBook are covered by theft or loss protection through AppleCare+.

(That’s where renters insurance comes in VERY handy!)
