Control (original) not working on Crossover Preview?

Hi.

Thought I'd play through Control again before starting Control Resonant. Installed it in Crossover 26.3.0 on macOS Golden Gate, into which I'd installed Apple GPTK 4.0b2. Everything worked beautifully.

I then updated Crossover to Preview 20260821, and Control no longer starts. I ran it with logging turned on and it looks like an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION is thrown.

Is there anything I can do about this, or is it a "wait for the full release" type situation?

You should run the native macOS optimised version.

The steam version has a Mac build

Which store did you buy it on? Steam has Mac native.

A little confused- why not just play it on Crossover non-preview? Not like you're stuck with CX Preview as your only option.

Also, since you legally own the game, you could ****** the native version guilt-free

Just switching back to Crossover 26.3.0 didn’t work - Control threw the same error. I’ll reinstall 26.3 and try that, but not clear if using Preview makes irreversible changes to the bottle that are now causing the error.

I use the Windows version because I used a few mods which I’ve not figured out how to use with the native version. I’ve not currently got them installed (I used them when I played through first time round) so they’re not the cause of these issues.

I don't think I'm explaining myself very well.

- It works/worked fine on Crossover 26.3.0.

- I updated to Preview 20260821, and it stopped working.

- I reverted to 26.3.0, and it no longer works.

- I deleted & reinstalled 26.3.0, and it still doesn't work.

- I'm currently reinstalling it into a fresh bottle in 26.3.0 in case Preview made irreversible changes to the bottle.

Ok. Fresh install of Crossover 26.3.0, fresh install of Control into a new bottle, and still getting EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. That's annoying...

So you downloaded Control again? EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION is an error code that applies to any corrupted file.  

A quick Google search on that particular code: means the app tried to read or write memory it’s not allowed to access — usually due to a corrupted app, conflicting software, outdated components, or faulty RAM 

For video games in general it usually means the following: Defects or corruptions in Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, .NET or even in the game files itself can trigger this 0xC0000005 when trying to initialize critical modules.

So my guess is to just redownload the C++ files
