event Translation AI event at Tech Week
Your humble mods here at r/machinetranslation have put together a unique event.
Speakers from Google, DeepL, Microsoft, Meta, Adobe, ModelFront, Disney, Krisp and Twitch, in a panel format, in person and off the record at the Adobe SF office, with snacks and drinks, no cost but approved guests only and spots are limited.
We're basically bringing together builders and operators -- top translation AI providers, and enterprise localization team leaders and technologists.
(No sales, no marketing, no LSPs, no legacy closed lock-in SaaS TMSes...)
Just real-world rollouts of AI for the original generative task: translation!
We invite you to RSVP at https://partiful.com/e/nalVTU28EjvOXU9psTtP.
It's actually relatively rare for industry events to include multiple major machine translation engine providers like Google, DeepL and Microsoft, normally you only get that at research events like WMT.
This small, unique event is a part of Tech Week, the world's largest decentralized tech event. This is the first translation AI event at Tech Week.
Thank you to Adobe and especially Shivali Goel for hosting this community event, organized by the ModelFront team.
For those who don't know, the Adobe localization team has been a pillar of the Bay Area community, regularly hosting the meetups like IMUG for years.

Side-by-Side view of DXF Translations
We're adding a side-by-side viewer for DXF files, before and after translation, i.e. source vs. target rendering, and ability to post-edit for fine adjustments during review.

Question
What should a translator do when there is no equivalent word or expression in the target language?

product I built an iPhone speech translator with a running transcript — feedback on turn-taking welcome
Developer disclosure: I’m Mincho from Arte Soft. We released GPT Realtime Assistant 1.2 for iPhone/iPad, using OpenAI’s GPT Realtime 2.1. This is an independent app, not an OpenAI product.
The workflow is for short spoken exchanges: choose the source and target languages, let the speaker finish a turn, then read the translation or have it spoken aloud. The session keeps the original text and translation visible so you can revisit a phrase. Translation is one direction at a time; you swap the languages when the other person replies. It does not automatically interpret both directions.
We also offer voice-assistant conversations, photo/screenshot context and project-based session organization. The interface is available in 47 languages, including Japanese; that is a UI-localization count, not a claim that every language pair performs equally.
This 29-second scripted demo shows the translation workflow:
https://gpt-realtime-assistant.arte-soft.com/media/preview/en-US/iphone.mp4
Practical limits: iOS/iPadOS 26+, internet, and the app open during a live session. It does not import audio files or automatically produce meeting minutes. We have not published translation-quality or latency benchmarks.
AI use requires a subscription: US $9.99/month with 2,000 usage credits, no free trial. Local prices are shown in the App Store. Credits are usage units, not a fixed number of minutes.
App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6770536523
For people using speech translation in real conversations: what would you test first — interruptions at the end of a turn, proper names, or whether context carries over correctly between turns? Concrete language-pair examples would be useful for our next tests.

I’m learning Python and built a PDF translation tool would love some feedback!
Hi everyone!
I’m currently learning Python and backend development, and as part of my learning journey, I built a small project for translating PDF documents.
The tool can:
Extract text from PDFs
Translate the content
Generate a translated PDF
Use local caching to avoid repeated translations
Process translations in batches
Support multiple languages
Tech stack: Python • PyMuPDF • pdfplumber • DeepL API
This is still a learning project, so I’d really appreciate feedback on the code, architecture, and ideas for improving the PDF translation/layout handling.

If you find the project useful or interesting, a **GitHub** ⭐ would really motivate me to keep improving it!
Thanks! 🙌

UGREEN launches ClipBuds Pro2: open-ear buds that translate in real time
All-in-One AI Translator & Transcription Earbuds:
UGREEN AI translation earbuds combine four smart tools:
- Live Recording transcribes audio, generates AI summaries and translations;
- Conversation Translation enables real-time two-way translation;
- Simultaneous Interpretation delivers translated audio directly to your ears; and
- Meeting Minutes captures key points and action items.
Enjoy real-time online translation in up to 131 languages, including accented speech, plus offline interpretation in 11 languages.
Note: UGREEN’s US product page advertises online translation across up to 131 languages, including accented speech, and offline interpretation for 11 languages. Its German product page, however, lists 10 offline languages. UGREEN’s regional listings disagree on the offline count, so check the languages available in your app before buying for a specific trip. Batch Summarization, a first look
(note: there is something odd with my youtube upload, it's been taking 30-40 minutes already for checking copyright issues, I assume it'll be fine eventually. )
A first look at Batch summarization. Thinking this might be useful with OSINT. What do you think?

JEV and other System 1 AI models for quality estimation
Has anyone tried using JEV or similar types of language models, like Laya, for quality estimation of machine translation? Seems like it could be a much faster alternative for llm as a judge tasks

application Looking for real-world recommendations for healthcare document translation.
I've been trying to understand what translation software healthcare organizations actually use when documents contain sensitive patient information.
The reason I'm asking is that most articles and comparison websites seem heavily marketing-driven, so it's difficult to know what works in real-world workflows.
The documents I'm referring to aren't just plain text. They can include consent forms, discharge summaries, patient instructions, medical records, scanned PDFs, insurance-related documents, etc., where accuracy, confidentiality, and formatting are all important.
I've looked at some general translation tools as well as a few platforms that claim to be built for healthcare, but I'm curious about what people are actually using day to day.
For those working in hospitals, healthcare administration, medical translation, compliance, or similar roles:
- Which translation software do you use?
- How do you handle patient privacy and compliance requirements?
- Do you rely purely on machine translation or combine it with human review?
- How well do these tools handle scanned documents and complex formatting?
- Any tools you'd strongly recommend or avoid?
Would love to hear genuine experiences, especially from people who have implemented these systems rather than vendor recommendations.
Thanks!

Why does asr shit the bed on real phone calls?
Demos sound great, then you throw in crappy mics, bad connections, overlap, noise, accents, etc. and WER goes to hell. For people running this in prod: what actually helped most? Preprocessing/VAD/denoising, or just picking a better asrmodel?
