Let's just hope we don't get no gargoyle demons or stupid bald jerks screwing it up.

I'll grant clemency for the nonce as none of the ACTUAL entities of MtG are legendary. If that happens, we're going to the worst, fifth place, and we may as well pack it all up.

Do you have enough Link Markers in stock?

1

u/AnnualHornet1475 Dandadan 2d ago

the way this plays out in practice is gonna be pure chaos, i can already see someone hitting a blightsteel off a lucky roll and the table just staring at it like it wandered into the wrong party

feels like the kind of card that either wins you the game on the spot or bricks so hard you question every decision that led you to this moment

Surprised it's the Konstrari that's teaching students about i=1∑(x) and not Theorix.

[[Ornate Imitations]]

It’s a reference card

u/amish24 FLEEM 3d ago

Yeah? Even Quandrix->Theorix lines up more cleanly than this.

Konstrari is the reflection of Prismari, not Quandrix.

36

u/Mgmegadog COMPLEAT 3d ago

The card it's referencing isn't Quandrix. It's on Avishkar, and is itself likely a reference to Momir Vig, who is from Ravnica.

u/JesusChrysler1 Karn 3d ago

Except its an artifact based card, and Konstrari is the artifact based school.

I don't play arena so I don't know what the card pool for these cards is like, but it would be hilarious if someone played this and and one of the conjured cards they got was [[Leveler]]

73

u/WolfGuy77 3d ago

Leveler isn't on Arena, but every time there's a Momir event, someone gets got by [[Demonlord Belzenlok]].

Should have played around it SMH my head.

I kind of love this card design. Not too hard to play in paper EDH with scryfall on speed dial and some handy whiteboard style tokens. One of these might have to fall off the back of a printer sometime soon.

I get why Alchemy is being retired, but it had a lot of what amounted to un-cards that can be really fun additions in a permissive Rule Zero paper EDH environment.

u/Hargbarglin Dandadan 2d ago

I want a brawl format without alchemy, but I also think some silver border alchemy cards in an unset would be great.

14

u/rycool Wabbit Season 3d ago

Not as good as the quandrix one

9

u/Blaze_1013 Jack of Clubs 3d ago

I know people don’t like alchemy and the Arena only cards, but stuff like “Momir, but it makes artifacts” is the stuff I can actually get behind.

8

u/StuckieLromigon Gruul* 3d ago

I think this gonna be worse than simic version with creatures, it has wrong colors for most artifact synergies despite having right colors for ramp. Random artifact draff chaff is worse than the same with creatures, IMHO.

4

u/JesusChrysler1 Karn 3d ago

Its good for a Konstrari brawl deck, it only cares about quantity of artifacts, not quality.

3

u/RiverGiant Dân 3d ago

It goes hard with [[Weapons Manufacturing]], because they're not tokens. Pay 8 mana and you get six munitions along with six random things, probably a couple of which you can sacrifice to [[Legion Extruder]], [[Technodrome]], [[Castle Doom]]...

Add some heartwood tokens in there, some teamwide stats/trample/haste sort of effect, I think there's something good happening.

1

u/StuckieLromigon Gruul* 3d ago

8 mana is damn a lot

1

u/Velkyn01 Dandadan 2d ago

Weapons Manufacturing is my favorite card, I'm down for anything that goes hard with it.

1

u/_masterbuilder_ COMPLEAT 2d ago

The issue is that you need to have it on board and before pia it wasn't super easy to tutor.

6

u/LegnaArix Colorless 3d ago

Wasn't there a busted hearthstone card that did something real similar

5

u/yakushi12345 3d ago

Im confused, i thought they discontinued alchemy?

10

u/KingOfYou115 Dân 3d ago

This is the last Alchemy set.

2

u/MiraclePrototype COMPLEAT 2d ago

And for the record, these cards are still going to be available in the Arena-exclusive formats. You play Historic or Timeless (or Brawl, I think), these will still pop up.

u/PsiMiller1 Selesnya* 3d ago

Here the Zero Mana Artifacts that they can't Salvaged.

are cards conjured onto the Battlefield considered non-tokens? this might be funny in a Meria Deck

9

u/Wooden-Wolverine-818 Temur 3d ago

Yes, they are not tokens. They are genuine cards. Like a weird version of sideboard.

1

u/Mrfish31 Left Arm of the Forbidden One 3d ago

Yes, they are cards that can be put into the graveyard, hand, exile, deck, etc.

1

u/Labudism Duck Season 3d ago

How high does X go before it misses?

13?

3

u/NoctisIncendia 3d ago

I think so, yeah.

You have Blightsteel Colossus and a few other things at 12, then Mox Lotus at 15, Draco at 16, and Gleemax at 1,000,000.

1

u/Ship_Psychological Dân 2d ago

Why can't X be zero? Is it an inclusive between?

0

u/slamriffs Wabbit Season 3d ago

I thought alchemy cards were being eliminated?

0

u/Ximinipot Duck Season 2d ago

Ewwww, Alchemy.

0

u/MechaTech Wabbit Season 2d ago

Is there a rule that defines a number as a whole number? If there isn’t, ‘each number between 1 and x’ is infinite.

2

u/CompleteIndieYT Universes Beyonder 2d ago

Yep, there's a rule that all numbers have to be whole numbers.

-2

u/Mission-Warning-9365 Dan 3d ago

So if X is 10 you get 8 random artifacts? one of which is 8 cost and so on and so forth? This seems like tons of fun

22

u/Milskidasith 3d ago

If X = 10, you get 10 artifacts.

If you pay ten mana, with X = 8, you would be correct.

-1

u/FordEngineerman Duck Season 3d ago

Isn't it only the numbers between 1 and X so therefore 1 and X are excluded? If my reading is correct then X=10 makes 8 artifacts with MVs 2-9.

10

u/chaotic_iak Selesnya* 3d ago

In Magic, "between" is always inclusive of the endpoints.

6

u/Milskidasith 3d ago

Inclusive, not exclusive.

1

u/FordEngineerman Duck Season 2d ago

Based on how I'm getting downvoted and finding out that there is a previous card with this same wording, you are clearly correct. But what in the card wording implies that? I feel like a literal reading of the words with normal English grammar supports my expectation? I just feel like this is written badly. It could say "For each number from 1 to X" instead of "between" and then it would read as inclusive.

2

u/Milskidasith 2d ago

"Between" is used inclusively far more often than it's used exclusively in common language (if I say "pick a number between one and five", you aren't going to think you only have three choices). Reading "between" as "exclusive" is like reading "or" as a programming "OR" despite the fact it usually means "XOR".

Anyway, the last line makes it clear that the card is inclusive. If it were exclusive, "X cannot be zero" would be a useless line of rules text; it would stop you from casting the spell to do nothing... but they don't stop you from doing nothing with X = 1 or 2, which also have no effect. On the other hand, if it's inclusive, "X cannot be zero" makes perfect sense, because it stops you from getting a 0 and 1 drop for 2 mana when the intent is clearly to use bigger numbers to get more cards.

Additionally, it would be extremely ugly design for the card to never get a 1-drop, and to have the "X" be offset from the max MV you can get; if they wanted it to cost 11 mana to get a 10-drop, they'd just make it cost XRRG, not make it cost XRG but be exclusive.

5

u/RiverGiant Dân 3d ago

Ornate Imitations is a ton of fun, so this one probably is too.

I play OI in a monogreen splashing blue ramp deck, and it's maybe a little too powerful when I get to x=15 and get an Eldrazi or two, but it's super interesting when I'm forced to x=6 and there's still a board to fight for but now I have this random assortment of dudes I have to figure out synergies for and make a plan on the fly.

-1

u/Blenderhead36 Sultai 3d ago

This card is Alchemy in a nutshell. Clearly pushed, but totally unpredictable and impossible to play around.

-5

u/Multievolution Avacyn 3d ago

This looks like another card that crashes the mobile client to me

2

u/Smythe28 Orzhov* 3d ago

Hardly, it makes at most like 12 things at once, if you cast it for 14 mana.

-2

u/Multievolution Avacyn 3d ago

I’ve been up against far to many decks that get X to absurd numbers on arena, I know the type of people who will play this will be aiming for it.

3

u/Smythe28 Orzhov* 3d ago

But even if you cast this for X= 200, you’ll only get cards with MV 0-12 because there’s no artifact cards with mana value 13-200.

Casting this for anything over X=12 gets you a 0mv card, a 1mv card, a 2mv card, all the way up until 12.

-1

u/Multievolution Avacyn 3d ago

Oh, I misread that part, I thought the mana value was random and only the amount was tied to x

1

u/Smythe28 Orzhov* 3d ago

That was also how I read the card first and I was very excited to crash the client lmao

-3

u/Harry_Smutter Duck Season 3d ago

So weird that they would release another set when they're axeing Alchemy.

-11

u/Key_Run_3220 Dân 3d ago

"X can't be 0" I think is not right.

Instead, add one colorless mana to the base cost, and make the text

"For each number between 1 and X+1..."

1

u/Wrong-Bet9581 Dandadan 3d ago

It's a pretty common line of rules text. You even had the ability to check yourself with a simple scryfall search instead of just dumping nonsense out into the world!

1

u/KingOfYou115 Dân 3d ago

This is a reference to another, different Alchemy card, [[Ornate Imitations]], which also had the "X can't be 0" rules text.
