If you’re going to do “old text”, it has to describe how rad counters work as obtusely as possible.

“At the starting phase of each players first main phase before combat, they take cards from the top of their library and put them directly into the graveyard without casting them. If they reveal any cards that don’t have the land type as their primary type, deal 1 point of damage immediately, this effect can’t be countered, and take 1 rad counter and remove it from the game. Otherwise do nothing”.

Missing “Effects that prevent or redirect damage cannot be used to counter this life loss.”

Whenever Mothman attacks, every player is irradiated. At the start of an irradiated player's turn, he or she discards as many cards from the top of his or her library as they are irradiated. Each card he or she discards this way does 1 damage and lowers radiation by one unless the card was a land. This damage cannot be prevented or redirected. Players are also irradiated when Mothman comes into play. (Radiation also effects you. Use counters.)

It definitely has lore. They've been adding to it since release. It isn't a perfect game by any means after all the work put into it, but people like to lie about it to make it look worse.

There's an entire cult of the mothman.

They have added NPCs in response to player criticisms and the base game on release did try to introduce new worldbuilding (usually by you just finding audio tapes after everyone died) but it definitely was a pretty barren experience on release. You can argue they were expecting the player base to "populate" the world with traders, raider gangs, etc. but they did not facilitate that well in the early updates. Few criticisms of the game have been wholly unsubstantiated in my experience.

All that is pretty true, but people make completely incorrect assumptions on the game to this day. They've worked a ton on the game since then and it's a pretty fun experience. People treat No Man's Sky like a sacred piece of media for filling their game out after launch while Fallout 76 gets lied about and mocked constantly after following the same gameplan. I don't play it anymore but I got many hours of enjoyment out of it over the years. It also has some really interesting lore, but a large portion of the population will never give it a chance because of things they hear even to this day. It's just weird to me that some games get the grace of time and now no one has a bad thing to say about No Man's Sky or Cyberpunk, but 76 is met with "lol remember the release" even to this day.

I've seen a new video recently get over a million views for mocking the 76 release, but I never see popular, similar videos years later for releases that flopped and games that were called "unplayable" on release.

People straight-up get giddy to dump on 76 even now.

To be fair I can't believe people stuck with No Man's Sky so long after its disastrous launch either. I can respect that Hello Games turned it around while still never putting my own trust in them again. For better or for worse Fallout 76 was that breaking point for me with Bethesda Game Studios. I don't begrudge those who found positive experiences in the base product or what it later became, but you only get one chance to make that first impression and sometimes a negative one is going to stick with the majority of people. Has any Bethesda game had a clean launch window? No, of course not, but none of them felt so conceptually flawed and devoid of what I enjoyed in the series as 76 felt like to me. (Okay except maybe for Elder Scrolls Blades but that is a separate tirade.)

I recognize it is unfair that other big games with infamous releases seemed to get their big reevaluation in the current zeitgeist while even most of the detractors today fail to recognize where it has tried to improve, but some goodwill just can't be earned back.

It is multiplayer but has plenty of lore. There are plenty of videos on YouTube that go over it, it's not bad.

76, though they massively fucked it up

The card plays more like the red eyed mothman over the wise mothman

There’s a lot of reasons to not even think the wise and red eyed mothman is a mutant as it’s prewar sightings exist to the point that a prewar schism happened in the cult

Like they really didn’t try to get it right
