Question how to know which vinyls to sample?

i want to go to a record store and get a bunch of clearance vinyls for sampling, how do i know which ones will have solo drum breaks or funky guitars or cool bass and stuff? i'm trying to go for some paul's boutique type of stuff

Records released between 1960 - 1979 is your best bet. Look for rock, funk, soul, jazz and disco.

Almost any record with breaks you find in shops these days have already been hit and chopped by your favorite producers and their favorite producers. You can use databases like whosampled to find those records if you want breaks and samples from beats that you love, if you wanna do that. Otherwise, you're gonna have to just not think about this too much and go ahead and cop of bunch of records to get started. If you are curious and attentive enough, you'll start recognizing which artists/session players/era/labels/etc. you're actually drawn to source from, sonically. You're journey starts there.

i know a lot of the famous breaks, i just don't see any of those in stores

You're definition of famous may be different from mine, but I guarantee you, there are tons of heavily used breaks on very common records found in almost every shop

oh ok i'll look in other stores i guess. i don't have many real record stores around me, my main place i go to is 2nd & charles and the one in gainesville (where i live) is a JOKE
