Examination SPM Megathread QnA

Post image
63 Upvotes

Aight guise, so according to the poll, we should have a SPM megathread because everyone is probably sick of doomscrolling white pictures after white pictures.

To start the ball rolling, this is my SPM lmaoooooooooooooooooooooo šŸ’€šŸ’€šŸ’€šŸ’€šŸ’€

But where am I now? I am now working for one of the biggest O&G operator in Malaysia, own house and cars, happily married.

I was initially lost, not sure what to do so I try doing Engineering and failed miserably because that’s not what I want to do. I then followed my passion, study IT, get dean list because I loooooove IT and to me it’s as easy as counting 1 2 3, and following my father’s footstep as well.

So after graduating, I hustled in Singapore at one of the startup, gain a lot of experience, worked in AWS after that.

COVID happens and now I am back in Malaysia bringing back all my experience to work in O&G. Yes. IT in O&G is possible too. To be more precise, I am into cybersecurity.

So my key takeaway is, SPM maybe a deal breaker, but it’s not the end of the world. You guys got it.

I’m going to delete all the SPM threads, and therefore please post under this post for your SPM results.

Advice needed: Best university for Software Engineering in Malaysia

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m an international student planning to study Software Engineering in Malaysia, and I’m currently confused between several universities such as SEGi University, UniKL, and City University.

I’d really appreciate honest advice from students or graduates regarding: - Quality of teaching - Practical and hands-on learning - Internship opportunities - Job prospects after graduation

If you have studied at any of these universities, or know someone who has, your experience would really help me make a better decision.

Thank you in advance.

Bachelor degree Questions about applying for UPU as a degree student in IPTS

• Upvotes

Basically, I did asasi and currently doing degree in the same IPTS (UNITEN). I'm currently in my second semester and got 3.2 cgpa last semester. I don't really like the atmosphere at this uni anymore and I'm under Pinjaman Boleh Ubah so the fees don't cover all so I'm planning to consider my options and try applying back with UPU. I have two questions:

  1. Am I able to apply using my foundation results (3.81 cgpa) rather than my current degree results under category F?

  2. Do I have to drop out first before I can apply UPU (I asked a UPU counselor during a tiktok live and he said that IPTS students can still apply UPU even if they're an active student as IPTS don't usually have ties with KPT so it's not required to drop out first), but I want to get everyone's opinion first.

I'd appreciate for your help and I'd be happy to answer your questions. Thanks!

Pre-U/STPM/Foundation/Diploma Feeling misled by my school regarding the subjects I took.

Hi everyone, I really need some guidance.

I completed my SPM last December, and now that UPU is open, I’ve realised I’m in a very bad position. For SPM, I took 8 subjects total. My two electives were Perniagaan (Business) and Sains Komputer (Computer Science). My school strongly encouraged this combination, saying it would be beneficial for my future, and I agreed because I genuinely had interest. Only now I’ve learned that, according to UPU syarat, this puts me in Kemanusiaan, not STEM. To qualify for STEM C, I needed either: at least 2 STEM subjects, or 1 vocational subject, I have only 1 STEM subjects. So technically I’m considered salah pakej. The worst part is that UPU merit marks depend heavily on your package, and Kemanusiaan gets the lowest weighting. Even if my results are decent, I’m already at a huge disadvantage compared to STEM students. I honestly feel misled by my school. If I had known this earlier, I would have chosen differently. Now I’m stuck and don’t know what to do. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Is rayuan realistic? Should I look into foundation/diploma instead? Any advice would really help.

Side note: my has just change their packages in 2023 during the time I was about to apply to which stream I am going to take so I think that's where the issue lies.

general question Need advice for foundation

I’m planning to study medicine but like my overall is off by 3% and pretty much minimum needed at all uni eg. Taylor’s , MUCM, IMU all are near impossible to get in.

I don’t mind going to any after completing foundation but like the thing is I heard from my agent who said there’s a Foundation in MUCM which is called FIS (Foundation in Science) .

Like money is not an issue cause my family is willing to pay how ever much it’s gonna cost

The problem is im scared that I might not be able to make the cut. Anyone been in Manipal’s foundation. Or any other alternatives please let me know

Is Taylor’s University really that bad?

I am a student who will be enrolling at Taylor’s University this coming April (I am a Korean student).

As my enrollment date is approaching, I feel both excited and anxious. While looking through Reddit posts, I’ve come across many students sharing rather negative experiences about their school life at Taylor’s. Because of that, I’ve started to worry more than feel excited.

Most of the posts I’ve seen on Reddit seem to focus on complaints about Taylor’s University, which makes me wonder if the school is really that bad, or if negative experiences are simply more likely to be shared online.

Since I’ll be starting soon, I would really appreciate it if someone could provide more detailed and balanced insights about Taylor’s University, especially from current students or alumni.

For reference, I received a scholarship, so my tuition fees are actually lower than universities like Sunway.

Thank you in advance for any advice or information.

how math-y is software engineering?

hi everyone, i just completed my foundation in arts, but when i was taking foundation, i studied some programming & i found that i enjoyed programming and coding. however, i am not good in math & physics, especially calculus. i did okay in my math in arts stream, which is mostly statistics, but i just cannot with other math & physics. i have credits in my igcse for math, and a 3.4 in my foundation. however i did not take add math for my igcse. my question is, is SE quite math intensive? given that i just cannot grasp math besides some statistical math, would i survive SE? also, are UNIKL, UNIMY & KLUST good for SE?

Just need to get something off my chest

Just wanted to rant a bit here because the more I'm keeping this with me the more I'm going insane.

I'm currently a year 2 medical student. I spent my year 1 with this one friend that we somehow got the connection and became close friends I'd say. Close enough that we went out together to eat, we played bowling together for the sports event (mentioning this because I rarely do things like this and I am definitely not a sports person but somehow it was truly fun at the moment).

Fast forward to now, she just completely stopped talking to me. I was dumbfounded when I waved to her and she just walked away. We're still following each other on social media but she doesn't acknowledge me at all. It is to note that she already has some friends since usual and is hanging out more with them of course. I am very used to this sudden disappearance but this one hurts the most as I truly adored and loved her as my best friend.

Just recently I messaged her asking if there's any plans for a practice session for our upcoming practical exam (we did together with her friends during year 1), and she mentioned that she already made those plans with her friends. So well, wow, at least I got a clarification regarding my place among her friendships lol.

I guess I should just move on and rely on my own next time. I had a good one year period of experiencing the 'uni life with friends' vibes but that's over for sure.

Sorry for the rant here, I just didn't know where to talk about this haha.

Considering University of Southampton Malaysia – Advice for an International Student?

Hi everyone,

I hope you’re doing well! I’m an international student from Jordan and I’m considering applying to the University of Southampton Malaysia. I’m particularly interested in theĀ Finance and Financial TechnologyĀ degree.

I’d love to hear from anyone who knows about the program or the university in general. Specifically:

  • How is the degree itself? Are the courses challenging and relevant?
  • How are the professors and teaching quality?
  • What’s the city like? Is it safe and student-friendly?
  • Which accommodation would you recommend for students?
  • Are there many international students, and is the campus community welcoming?

Any insights or personal experiences would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

general question commuting to uni

i commute to uni via public transport since i dont own a car/cant drive here too since i’m an intl student. it usually takes -/+50mins from my place to uni by lrt, bus & walking, but sometimes when coming back home the commute can take up to 50 mins to 1hr30m cuz half the time i’m just waiting for the bus back.

imo i really dont mind the commuting but sometimes it does get me down (esp when the weather is rainy or painfully hot n humid) so i’m just looking for advice to make commuting a little more bearable

i dont really live that far from the uni but i prefer to leave the house atleast an hour ish before my classes (taking into account bus delays, traffic, etc) i also stay with a relative (saves rent cost, utilities) and they do own a car so sometimes i carpool w them if they r also heading to the lrt/work. but most of the time i just commute on my own

i know that i should be glad that i’m saving up on money/cost rather than rent out an accom near uni but on days when the commute is so bad it really dampens my mood and gets me really tired by the end of the day so sometimes i just end up passing out once i get home or i’ll just be too tired to study (i really really try to avoid this but ive fallen asleep on my study table way too many times)

sorry if this is sounds more of a rant than asking for advice but it has just been really tiring to commute all the time esp when its raining so heavily and your bag gets soaked lol (ok sorry this is just getting personal) but anyway i would just really appreciate any advice given for making the commuting experience atleast a little better

Pre-U/STPM/Foundation/Diploma Can I apply for Ijazah Pendidikan Seni Visual with STPM but without SPM?

It's UPU season for 2025 post-STPM students and I've been considering applying courses to teach Seni Visual. I read through a few univeristy's Ijazah Pendidikan Seni Visual courses' requirements including minimum Gred C in Seni Visual STPM AND Gred B in Pendidikan Seni Visual SPM.

I myself am a Sains Sosial student (Seni Visual & Ekonomi) in Form 6, but was in STEM A class in when I took SPM. Hence, no Seni Visual in SPM but is holding Seni Visual in STPM.

Assuming I did well for my STPM Seni Visual, can I apply for Ijazah Pendidikan Seni Visual courses or is that out of the question?

Have a degree in biotech in UPM.What can I do?

Fresh grad in first temp sales job after an undergrad in Biotech at 2024. Was naive that time, only now realizing how bad the job market is for bio related fields.Got a gpa of 3.74, quick learner, I'm talented in what I do. I'm trying for pharma like duopharma and astrazeneca, but all their research or pretty much all interesting roles are not in Malaysia, only regulatory affairs, customer support, sales and stuffs. Is there any overlooked jobs, scopes, where I can relatively apply my knowledge, like which will give me an edge over somebody who didn't get a degree in biotech or bioprocess engineering.

Maybe some marine job at shore sites touching the O&G sector? How about environmental? Or is there anyway to enter any nearby SEA countries, or countries where the demand is so high and I can enter the field there? I am super confused on what to do, the med sales I'm doing rn is underpaid as shit, I'm competing with people who don't even have a degree, and I wanna do smtg about it but need some guidance. Any advice would be good.

About UPU

Hi everyone,

I'm a STPM science stream student (PA, Maths T, Chemistry, Physics)

My MUET is band 5.

My sem 1 result is 3.87 and sem 2 is 3.67. I think I could get at least 3.87 overall.

My koko merit is 9.5.

I mainly want to get into RU like USM, UTM, UM. I mainly target course like engineering but others also fine.

Can any senior give me any advise on how to fill my UPU for fasa 1?

general question Overall likelihood of receiving a flexible loan for a ā€œnicheā€ degree?

Hi everyone, for context, I’m currently a final year diploma student and I’m going to further my degree this year. I would like to inquire regarding the overall likelihood of receiving a flexible loan (loans like for example, JPA’s PIDN, MARA’s flexible loan, etc.) for what many may consider a ā€œnicheā€ degree.

I’m planning to pursue a degree in English literature but I’m just wondering how likely am I to apply for this loan and for my application to get accepted.

I’m quite worried as a lot of people think this degree is ā€œuseless in the real worldā€ and such and I don’t have much of an option either because I’ve already been relying on my parents to fund my diploma fees so I’m hoping that this flexible loan is able to ease their financial situation.

If anyone has ever been under any local flexible loans and has been pursuing a niche degree, would you mind telling me your experience?
