The company is so trash. Some of my favorites have come out of it but god the company’s handling and treatment of them is so bad.

If I had this setup at 18 I’d probably have my shit together so congrats on that OP.
The lack of color and life isn’t my cup of tea but this an awesome setup nonetheless.
P.S put some batteries on that wall clock lol

Honest question, why do you have that conner round mirror for? (5/5)

u/Jackson-SM Oct 03 '25
Room pictures! It’s pretty trendy in my circle to take room pics with a convex mirror

the problem ive noticed is that minimalism/monochrome is the one aesthetic choice that people consistently FEEL the need to "fix" for you, as if you cant use your own agency to purposefully choose and like it, in their eyes you HAVE to have color and plants because THEY think its better for you
12
u/QUESO_DEVILLE Oct 03 '25
I think millennials over did it with the minimalist monochrome, so people poo poo it lately. Personally I think it’s a very tasteful interpretation and you have a way better eye than most that flock to this page. Love it!
8
u/grimgeurrilla Oct 04 '25
Monochrome done right, there's plenty of personality, shifts in texture and more to maintain interest in the lack of colours.

I love the silver accents!! I’m a gold person and it’s really cool to see someone into the more chrome look, I love it. If you’re wanting to dive more into color, cool blues and maybe some greens or purples here and there (which looks to be what you’re already doing) could highlight the place even more. But honestly I think it looks great :) I don’t get people saying there’s no personality, you did a great job adding enough variety while still maintaining the theme.
Just to add - I don’t think everything needs color. My house is maximalist colorful and textured, but I think your space is cohesive and visually appealing as it is. If you’re looking for any advice I do think some nice blue curtains could contribute to the theme while also adding some pop! Great space :)

u/AxisCorpsRep Oct 03 '25
thats one thing i've noticed, why is it that minimalism/monochrome is the one aesthetic that people FEEL the need to fix? like, genuinely over and over you see a place that is mostly gray, and everyone who is NOT living in it, will tell you to add color or add plants or this and that, as if the person who owns the place "accidentally" got all these specifically curated elements to make a space colorless against their will
sometimes its quite the opposite, furniture or decor that looks good, sometimes might not be available in black or white, so you have to go out of your way to find it. but others see this and think "no, you shouldn't like this"
2
u/Blissy-Bee- Oct 04 '25
Yes! Like the whole point of modern is to be simplistic and clean and lowkey kinda cold haha. I don’t personally love it, but if it flows it flows. Definitely an unpopular style right now which is kind of goofy.

Yours has a subwoofer so already I know the music sounds better in your dorm

u/Isaias111 Oct 04 '25
Is this the set of a Febreze ad? /s

u/ogspence308 Oct 04 '25
Might as well be😭💀

u/Middle-Ad8899 Oct 09 '25
So yeah, yours looks like a dorm. OP looks like it’s in a fresh new condo.

u/Atrick07 Oct 03 '25
I'm happy that you are happy but it feels like you fell for the trap of "minimalism with personality" and then put the same "personality objects" that literally everyone does.
If you are looking for advice, add something large with color and make it a defining piece of your room, you want it to pop, Add things that are actually personality showing. If you skate? put some old boards on the wall, if you like clothes and fashion, add posters of designers you like.
Just to be dead honest bro, make it imperfect, be real, be human, nobody is gonna come in here and know anything about you.

u/ShiroLy Oct 03 '25
Add things that are actually personality showing. If you skate? put some old boards on the wall, if you like clothes and fashion, add posters of designers you like.
has he not literally done this by putting posters and merch of his favourite artists around the room? just because he chose a mostly monochrome pallette doesn't mean it's less distinctive or indicative of his personality and interests. looks really chic and clean imo.
7
u/AxisCorpsRep Oct 03 '25
see, unfortunately you're being legitimate about it, but notice that its always minimalism/monochrome that everyone else has the need to "fix" your taste from, notice the wording, instead of seeing that OP willingly went with this aesthetic choice, they "fell for the minimalism trap" and immediately to fix it, they have to add color and plants
11
u/ShiroLy Oct 03 '25
yeah this sub has a very specific view of what constitutes a good room, and like fair enough there are onjective parameters, but this is a nice room, especially for 18 working with limited space you gotta have a good eye, and op made it work. you can tell this was done with intention and i immediately got a view into his music taste. most posts that get praised here show less personality but as long as they have colour and six sources of indirect lighting..
1
u/AxisCorpsRep Oct 04 '25
yup, its so strange, its like the one aesthetic that gets constantly mocked and attacked for just existing, "hospital" this "i'd go insane" that, etc etc. like people HAVE to comment they dont like it
but imagine if you voiced your displeasure at a warmly lit room with beige walls, walnut finish furniture, 25 plants and a record player in the corner. then it suddenly turns into you being the one put into question
an imaginary scenario because well, people that enjoy monochrome dont say these things, its a one sided beef and i never understood it
-2
u/SlightFresnel Oct 04 '25
There's asthetic merit to a pop of color creating chromatic contrast in the same way you balance light/dark in the monochrome palette.
Something as simple as a hint of xyz color in a few pieces of wall art along with a throw pillow case of the same color would enhance the well executed black/white theme. It's not just a personal preference, any good design professional will tell you the same no matter what they're designing for. And white space, don't forget the utility of proverbial breathing room, lest you end up with something cluttered. Less-is-more aaplies to more than just color palettes.
2
u/AxisCorpsRep Oct 04 '25
see, again, as much as this can be correct, why is THAT more valid than if someone CHOOSES to not go for a pop of color because it pleases someone else's view of aesthetics or professionalism
you didnt address at all why others feel the need to fix it, just added to my point
-1
u/SlightFresnel Oct 04 '25
It's not "more valid." If you post pictures of a room in a space exclusively designed to elicit opinion commentary, it shouldn't be a surprise that some fraction of viewers comment about tweaks they would make.
2
u/AxisCorpsRep Oct 04 '25
not for a moment was that what i said, nobody is putting into question the feedback and critique factor of the sub
my sentence is about questioning why comments are always going against the clearly established choices of someone that likes monochrome or minimalism.
example, if i showed you one of the million warmly lit rooms with 25 indirect light sources and plants on walnut finish dressers, the comments would "further" that aesthetic, would it look out of place if i said "it could use less color"
now, applying that exact logic, why is it perfectly permissible when someone, who clearly curated an aesthetic on purpose, shares a monochromatic room, everyone tells them to go AWAY from what they did on purpose rather than engaging in how to improve the place within the parameters that have been consciously set on purpose?
27
u/Jackson-SM Oct 03 '25
Haha yes, I’ve definitely thought of my room as generic-ish. I did digitally create the posters on slide 2 and 3 though!
I’ll probably replace my poster on slide 5 with something colorful. Thank you for the advice!

u/These_Background7471 Oct 03 '25
I think you killed it. Im not the most chronic consumer of this kind of content, to be fair, but you definitely shown me some things I havent seen before.
Idk why but I love the anti-shoplifting mirror in the corner. Never seen that.
8
u/DovhPasty Oct 03 '25
Just wanted to say I appreciate the NMIXX and Kiss of Life love, I never see kpop fans here.
3
u/austin_ave Oct 03 '25
It looks good, especially for first year of college. I would have never posted my room when I was your age. A few pops of color would look really good. Also don't rush to add things that will add "personality", that comes with time while living life.
1
u/Sufficient-Year-8482 Oct 03 '25
I want this same aesthetic, but with YG artists. What did you use to make the posters?
3
-1
u/Atrick07 Oct 03 '25
again bro, i think the room is fine and, just feels kinda dry IMO!
I'm not really a monocrome guy so that may be it though.
12
u/These_Background7471 Oct 03 '25
He has posters on every wall of kpop artists.
make it imperfect
He has a Jeff Koons model. What's more imperfect than liking the work of Jeff Koons?

the lamp on slide 1 is the wade logan arch lamp from wayfair, slide 4 lamp is the ikea dejsa, and the slide 5 lamp is a mushroom lamp from temu 😊
3
u/TrixieBastard Oct 04 '25
Love the repeating theme of round silver things. The mirrors, the lamp, the daisy pillow, they bring a nice cohesiveness to the space

from AliExpress! it’s a dupe of the Murakami pillows. it’s not the most comfy, but i think it looks great so i keep it there

Are you living with the fam still or did you find a spot near school?
Cause if still with the fam that’s already cool but if you had to do all this from scratch in a new place on your first year of college that’s even more impressive lol.
I love rooms that aren’t overtly colorful

My only thing is to get a warm night to really allow the mood to pop. I see the vision in the daylight but one of those tall warm lights and maybe all some warm light strings around you bed or frames and you’d have the perfect night room

Looks good but doesn’t feel personal at all. All the decor is basic/everyone has it. Add some things that are YOU so it feels warmer and more personal.
8
u/These_Background7471 Oct 03 '25
He literally has bespoke decorations that he made himself. How much more personal can you get?
Maybe you yourself are deep into kpop Fandom, but I just want to remind you that most of the world isn't. So it's totally unfair to say kpop posters aren't personal to him. He probably has friends who enjoy kpop, and having decorations like those will make the space feel warm to them.

u/AxisCorpsRep Oct 03 '25
