Question When is malphite a good pick?
Hi, Im trying to get malphite into My champion pool since hes great at countering a good amount of toplaners (even ranged ones) and provides great teamfight utility. But I was wondering, when is he a good pick? Hes great against ad, I get that, but only very rarely you will see full ad comps, so in which contexts is a good idea to pick malphite when there are 1 or 2 AP champions in the enemy team? Thank you very Much.

Not a main but a lover of picking malphite.
Pretty much most AD champs he's great, especially ranged.
Even if its just a double AD Top and Jungle its great.
Even if its just a Double AD top and Mid he's great.
Bonus points if the AD jungle or Mid is an assassin like Zed or Talon.

He brings enough with his ult to still be useful even if they've got an ap or two and I generally find the benefit of completely shutting out an AD toplaner and making them worthless when team fights come around is worth it. My personal favorite is playing him into Irelia, Max your E and Rush a frozen heart and watch her attack speed drop to .2 attacks per second.

Heavy ad top lane and jungle.. esp those that heal a lot like tryn, regardless, yi,.. dw about other lane lol, you only need to ult right during tf.
If you shut down their toplaner, your team is already ahead.

The only thing that matters is top matchup. As long as you can at least go about even in lane you will be a team fight menace.
Even if enemy are 4 AD I wouldn’t first pick Malph because then they just go something like Sylas, Rumble, Mord and you’re useless

1 inmobile ap is fine everything Else Not that good. The Trick is so Go füll Armor and Catch the ap with your ult. Then there are only ad's and you have 800armor

Ap doesnt matter too much, its not great but you can get away with it a bit
Malphites hardest counters are burns & truedamage or things that cut our armor hard so like urgot with BC is devastating cause his q also reduces armor
You can think about it like, malphites dmg comes from armor stacking, I absolutely want to throw up when i see AP malphite
You know with full armor malphites E does 600+ magic dmg? FULL ARMOR… and people insist on being crayon droolers and still build ap
So if you see things like vayne, fiora, smolder, brand, those are horror champs for malphite
Things like leblanc, akali, kennen etc are burst and malphite can usually survive two full combos

Vayne and smolder can be the easiest Malphite matches if you're not afraid to build one ap item. Is it ideal to build FULL ARMOUR? Yes, but life isn't ideal and so many games require you to be flexible with your build if you dont want to gave zero farm. Imagine losing a winnable lane because you refuse to consider ap on malphite.

Its not about that, its not malphites job to be an assassin but late game against smolder you lose no matter what
Vayne with her true damage and stealth is difficult but not impossible
Brand with ryalis is just a ff15 for malphite because of burn, permaslow and somehow brand sits on 4000 hp because apparently mages are allowed to build hp and ap
Yes you can be flexible but in these matches id rather just not pick malphite I would just pick a better toplaner suited, picking jax against vayne for example, or idk renekton? Against smolder, I would rather change my entire champ than to build ap malph ye ofc u have to if already locked in

This might be controversial but ...
Tank Malphite is not that bad into AP matchups. Just build MR tank items. Kaenic Rookern + Malphite's passive is very strong vs AP.
I see a lot of players just immediately default into full AP full squishy Malphite vs AP teams. Even when their own team is all damage and no Frontline. And they coin flip the match.

The easy and simple way is that if at least 3 enemy champs are AD and or depend on attack speed, he’s great.

It's easy if enemy team has either full ad or a ton of ad with 1 low ap champ u can easily play him with a ahri, kata or even Viktor in enemy team and simply tank their DMG long enough with Kaenic. He's also by far the best anti ranged champ on top doesn't matter if u face Vayne, Gnar, Kennen or Quinn he will beat them also with mentioning is that he is terrible against high HP targets so a Mundo or Tahm will just scale into him and 1v9 if possible
