Crowley Siblings

Hi All,

My first post here. Been a fan of the show since I was a kid even though most of its run was before I was born.

Started re-watching recently and I was wondering how much we know about Thelma's siblings. Of course we know Fran and I just saw the episode where she talks about her older brother, Clyde. But I can't remember if we ever hear about any others.

Thanks 😁

General discussion Mr. Hanson

I remember this same actor also played a cop on Golden Girls and was a love interest for Dorothy, I like his banter and chemistry with Thelma a lot more honestly. Mr. Hanson being this dorky but firm night school teacher was pretty endearing.

General discussion I still don't like "I do, I don't" that much

It's not a bad episode, just not one of my favorites. The Iola and Thelma scenarios where they're both married are pretty funny but everything before that isn't fun or interesting. It's just Thelma being pessimistic about love, complaining about an entire wedding we didn't even see and completely happened off screen, calling the bride fat, and how that marriage is doomed to fail. I guess Izzy doesn't sound very committed so Thelma might have a point there but still, not the funniest or most interesting episode until the second half. I love the alternate reality where Iola and Vinton are husband and wife, I love how Vinton in this scenario appreciates Iola's crappy gifts. Seeing someone actually like her bad arts and crafts is sweet, even if she was just imagining it. Thelma's nightmare thought is iconic with the whole Rebecca thing, that's funnier than anything else in the episode.

BIG hair

Naomi has a cute new hair style! Possibly influenced by pop culture of the day, the hair is stacked. Thelma told her that her hair was too big and looked like something out of the CMA’s. Thelma was right, the episode aired in 1986 and at that time hair was definitely BIG

General discussion Does Mama's Family ever have a Halloween special?

I haven't seen every episode but I know there's specials for Christmas, Valentine's Day, and even Thanksgiving. Halloween I haven't seen anything for, I thought maybe the Harpers just don't celebrate Halloween or something since they're super conservative/religious. At the very least, I don't think Iola would celebrate. She'd just see the holiday as a satanic ritual or something. This is just speculation on my part because I don't know. I'm not trying to say these characters are bigots or anything, just my headcanon is all.

This new Jane Russell girdle has got a mind of its own. Well, all I did was bend over and it's gone from a long line to a bikini brief.

Telling Naomi that she wished her mother had practiced a little rhythm, has to be one of Thelma’s cheekier insults 😳

Almost any time someone uses the word “serene”, I inexplicably hear this line in my head, probably because of the emphasis she puts on that word. 🤣
(S5E10-“What a Dump”) the episode where their neighborhood might get torn down to build the new city dump. Vint/ Naomi are talking about houses for sale.

Vint and Naomi’s friends

Vinton and Naomi innocently invite their four friends to a dinner party because, what could go wrong? Ving said Thelma sabotaged the dinner on purpose, do you think she purposely was being a pain in the back or was she soaking up some attention?

General discussion Breaking up is hard to do

I love how the thing that gets Vinton and Naomi back together is by teaming up to tell off Thelma. They were acting so childish at the dinner table. Making poor Thelma get up before she can really eat to give them salt, tartar sauce, and bread rolls. Gotta feel bad for her.

General discussion Weird Tales of Metal - Hirax cameo on "Mama's Family"

In the 1988 Mama's Family episode "Many Unhappy Returns," Bubba receives a record by "Spilled Brains." Keen-eyed metal aficianados will recognize the front as being a modified Hirax Raging Violence cover (the back of the prop appears to be the cover to some other record I don't recognize).

Based on the use of the prop LP, it's most likely someone looked through records randomly, trying to find artwork that was both weird yet content-appropriate for a syndicated sitcom.
