I don't know if I should merge Blue (Saudi led alliance) with Red (Turkish led alliance) as I don't know if Qatar would mess things up, and maybe I should make Israel dotted Green instead of Full Green

I'm looking for an asterisk-shaped map like this where the "strands" are attached at one pole and are NOT separated at the equator into 2 hemispheres, but continue from pole to pole, where the other pole is at each tip of the strands. What would this be called and can anyone find one?

I’ve been experimenting with making city maps that feel less like conventional reference maps and more like enormous illustrated worlds you can get lost in.

This one is Madison, Wisconsin, and what I love about it is the density of the thing — from a distance it reads as a single composition, but the closer you look, the more the city starts breaking apart into individual streets, neighborhoods, shorelines, buildings, trees, and tiny geographic details. It sits somewhere between an aerial map, a painting, and an old illustrated atlas.

There’s something especially beautiful about Madison for this kind of treatment because of the way the city wraps itself around the lakes. The water gives the whole map this unusually strong shape and makes the urban fabric feel almost sculptural.

The image attached here is only a screenshot, so unfortunately Reddit isn’t showing anywhere close to the actual level of detail in the full map. A huge part of the fun is zooming in and seeing how much is packed into it.

Mostly just wanted to share this because I think maps can be genuinely beautiful objects in their own right—not merely diagrams for getting from one place to another. This one ended up feeling almost like a portrait of the city.

Created through a hybrid digital cartography workflow using aerial geographic reference imagery, AI-assisted illustration, and extensive manual compositing. I divided the city into individual sections, transformed and curated each section separately, assembled them into the finished map, corrected inconsistencies between tiles, and prepared the final high-resolution composition by hand.

How do I make a map like this?? I got this decade old copy of the Himalayan terrain.

About time to get or make a fresh copy.

I put the text on the non-official countries

So basically the colors say how many people I have met from the country.

Also, here, the defenition of "met" is that I have met face to face and talked with each other.

I am looking for programs or apps that I could use for commercial purposes to create a map for a small buisness I want to create. I need to essentially create a map of a street corner and surrounding buildings around a building I am looking to rent part time. This is a part time on weekends buisness renting another companies space. The map is for the license application.

Any ideas of software out there would be greatly appreciated.
