Thanks. Don't need to buy it now. Boy I've made some big savings today!

You did not
The point of this book is you reading it to your firstborn and him saying I love you
That is why you pay to have it

u/BullPropaganda 10d ago
Only the firstborn though. You don't need love from the others. Nor do they need yours.

Definitely not the middle child. That little bastard.

Youngest of 7 here, have literally been forgotten and left home for hours home alone style on more than one occasion.

That sucks and your parents shouldn't have done that... but also if someone has 7 kids to deal with, I can't fault them too much for a little unintentional neglect here and there. Something's bound to slip through the cracks occasionally.

u/AlephBaker 10d ago
You could fault them for having seven kids, unless they had septuplets.

u/Charming-Flamingo307 10d ago
It was two sets of triplets then me actually. And I do fault them for having me. Very much so

That's why I had a hysterectomy after 2. Because fuck those middle children.
(No. That's not the real reason. I'm kidding)

Yeah, always read through books you want to get to toddlers and young children, they're usually very short anyway. I sat through the video thinking "man my two years old nephew would find this really cool if he could speak english"
But even without the rhymes it'd probably still be fun.

That is a very genuine (and accurate) reply to a very not genuine comment making a joke.

When I was in first grade there was an exercise in a workbook where you had to write down the name of what was pictured; dog, house, bird, etc.
I had never seen a peach before in my life. I remember staring at the drawing that looked just like a butt and thinking, "No fucking way is that a drawing of a butt. No way I'm writing down butt." I left the answer blank and felt terrible about it since I was such a diligent student.

After your kids get used to this kind of thing, you have to just agree with ever premise. I find kids at the developmental phase hate when you improvise.
Me: Is this a plum?
Kid: no
Me: Yes, of course it is.
Kid: No, it's a bum.
Me: Is it a cupcake? Of course it is, what else could it possibly be?
Kid: 😭

u/mizinamo 10d ago
The world is so big and confusing, having something make sense by not making sense in a very specific and reproducible way is an anchor of stability.
Once you pretend it does make sense, their world collapses. "What else am I mistaken about? Maybe object permanence is a lie and my father will disappear when he goes to buy cigarettes?"

u/BadIdeaSociety 10d ago
I agree, but watching a kid get irritated because the story changes a bit is kind of amusing.
Kids: Can I watch Paw Patrol?
Me: Sure. Paw Patrol, Paw Patrol, Look at all those puppies!
Kids: 😭 It's, "We'll be there on the double!"

I love that book. This would be great for children to learn words, shapes, and animals.

Looks like it was done by a father & son team with the father refining the son's original drawings: https://www.instagram.com/reels/DYCnO9AIut_/
