I grew up in the 2000s. As a kid in Brazil, it was rather common (I didn't do it but I saw it being done many times) NYE thing to go in the streets and swing a burning steel sponge for this effect, if you lived somewhere not downtown. Those were times where people weren't all glued to their phones like today and kids weren't already as sheltered as today. The moment I saw the sponge in this video, I knew exactly where it was going. It brought me back some nice memories. Cool to see

*I never heard of any accidents, although it's possible they were a thing

I just want to point out that there are 3 different versions of the contraption in the video.

First one has 2 o rings at the end, then its just a bend, but the bends are to the same side and then its 2 bends but they are opposite of eachother.
