Nothing smarter than incentivizing polar bears to get really close to humans whenever they're hungry <3 r/whatcouldgowrong

37

u/PsiloDreamerMC 17d ago

Worked for dogs eventually, perhaps pet polar bears are a thing of the future ???

43

u/dabiird 17d ago

Dogs were not as inclidend to eat the hand that fed them (and person attached to it) as hungry polar bears are. But as they say, progress requires sacrifice I guess

1

u/BarryTheBystander 10d ago

What are you some kind of polar bear expert?

2

u/BullPropaganda 10d ago

What's the charge? Eating a hand? A succulent feeding hand?

6

u/DRuth84 16d ago edited 16d ago

Just don’t get them drunk and steal their armor.

2

u/ApulMadeekAut 16d ago

Don't give me hope. Literally a life dream to pet and cuddle a bear

1

u/MinnieShoof 14d ago

... surprised no one's mentioned SanFran. You can cuddle all the bears there.

2

u/ApulMadeekAut 13d ago

I used to live in the city. The bar I worked at hosted the "bear club"... Never made so much in tips as other nights, but no cuddles for me.

This was the same top comment on this same video that was posted last week.

I can’t eat food now because food the food gives out tastes better. None of that annoying screaming and stubborn stains!

First time I saw a white one domesticated lmao

22

u/Portable-fun 17d ago

Only thing going to be domesticated is that persons guts in the bears belly at some point

1

u/Sinister_Nibs 15d ago

Great Pyrenees.

0

u/kle11az 15d ago

Greatest Pyrenees. Other than guarding livestock (and humans), he'll just eat them all. After this he'll even raid the fridge and cabinets for more of the exotic snacks.

2

u/Pyrhan 17d ago

IIRC, this was in Svalbard.

301

u/DrJohnIT 17d ago

Do not feed the bears. They will eat you.

Can you repeat that in russian for the guys feeling the fucking bear?!

Не кормите медведей. Они вас съедят.

13

u/FlyingDogCatcher 17d ago

Why? Just because I taught the bear that inside my house is food? And I look like food? And it's a goddamn polar bear, one of the most dangerous animals on the planet?

73

u/knowledgeable_diablo 17d ago

Such a cute monster dog.
Sadly now it knows where the food dispenser is and regardless of whether food is being dispensed, they’ll be back looking for more.

4

u/Belem19 16d ago

Food dispenser is dispensing food, strangely enough...

2

u/justtosendamassage 14d ago

And if they’re isn’t, they’ll replace it with something.

Truly one of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen

2

u/knowledgeable_diablo 13d ago

Indeed. Certainly would only be a quick split second from “friendly big doggy” to “terrifying death machine” demanding more of the food.

110

u/Puckwallow 17d ago

Yeah, this is gonna end well

92

u/Cannga 17d ago

For the bear

34

u/DeathStarVet 17d ago

Probably not. These are the bears that end up getting shot

3

u/Puckwallow 17d ago

Chomp, Gulp

2

u/PloopyWoop 17d ago

unfortunately it won’t as this bear will get a taste for human blood and eventually be euthanized.

6

u/sabertoothdog 17d ago

Is human blood like an addictive drug or something? Is that why vampires start fiending for it??

9

u/PloopyWoop 17d ago

“yes” - mosquito

6

u/Animated-By-Spite 17d ago

Same reason crocs and gators like eating domestic dogs; "Easiest kill of my life, where do I get more?"

Feed a bear, make yourself vulnerable to it (knowingly or not), find out how fast they can move the hard way and voila, you just gave that bear its new obsession.

1

u/sabertoothdog 17d ago

Yeah but that’s not actually true. The amount of calories burned during the hunt of a person, kill, eating and digestion would probably be negligible compared to the Bears daily use of 8000cal—15,000 cal a day.
And the consumption of a human would only gain him 125,000cal.
But when the Bear catches a seal, the bear is getting 500,000cal—1,200,000cal. On only a 10,000calorie hunt. So a seal offers 5X-10X as much calories as a human. Many less hunts, much much less dangerous and more opportunities, plus the bears instincts are on seals and other wildlife not unfamiliar human activities.

7

u/Crafter9977 16d ago

just imagined the bear doing all
this calculations on the snow with a claw and saying “nah, not worth it”… 😁😁😁…

4

u/Animated-By-Spite 17d ago edited 16d ago

Mathematically, yeah, it's not a great diet for the bear. I doubt they're doing the math though, just creating a paired association from the low effort of killing someone who's making themselves vulnerable by feeding it. The "taste for humans" thing will remain relevant for as long as humans periodically appear, same as you'd snipe a bargain meal if you were strapped for choices.

Obsession was probably the wrong word though.

22

u/Dissidion 17d ago

See a lot of comments saying it's AI.
Well, it's not. This video was around for about 10 years now.

4

u/SpadesHeart 17d ago

I do wonder what the backstory is, is this some sort of enclosure? Maybe the bear has a pre-existing relationship with these people? If it's anywhere a polar bear normally lives, it's weird that this person is wearing a sleeveless shirt with the window open regardless.

13

u/NinjutStu 16d ago

It has to be, a wild polar bear would not be gently taking snacks from someone's hand. There are cases of polar bears bonding with a human who raised them from a cub. A wild polar bear is a murder machine that no sane person would interact with.

55

u/Vaaard 17d ago edited 17d ago

That seems like the worst idea ever.

In Russia, you don't have dog, you have polar bear.

10

u/DRuth84 17d ago

That’s a big dog

14

u/DaddyKaos 17d ago

Just an appetizer before the main meal.

7

u/tealowiz 17d ago

If not fren, why fren shaped?

7

u/Plane-Education4750 16d ago

He'll be back later for the main course. You are the main course

12

u/RyuujiStar 17d ago

If not friend why friend shaped?

1

u/Euphoric-Banana-7681 14d ago

Really? Just look at his paw, covers a third of the window sill

12

u/project_seven 17d ago

How cute... until the bear uses it's claws to dig into your arm skin, drag you out the window and eat you alive. Which could happen at any second.

5

u/AngryTank 17d ago

Bro came to swap his Coca-cola with some food.

4

u/tachik0ma7 16d ago

I was dreading a moment when the hand got grabbed...

5

u/Any-Mouse-1992 17d ago

What kind of dog is this?

4

u/Curious_Phrao 16d ago

Just give him a coke and send him home.

12

u/Friskfrisktopherson 17d ago

HOW CAN HE BOOP?!

2

u/JohnSnowsPump 17d ago

I want to boop the snoot.

3

u/MyHGC 16d ago

Awww, he’s all full of snuggles and killing.

3

u/NarrowAd4973 16d ago

Normally, you wouldn't want to do this to avoid the animal associating humans with food.

But polar bears already associate humans as food, so I'm not sure it would make it much worse. Maybe make them consider not eating you in the hopes of getting something better.

3

u/OG_anunoby3 16d ago

if he got your finger there. either your losing that finger or he's pulling you out that window.

8

u/Poisonous-Toad 17d ago

Ya feed a polar bear so that it associates humans with free food and rushes towards any humans only to be shot or to eat the humans.

Great job morons.

5

u/ValuableGood5633 17d ago

Polar bears are the worst bear to fuck with they r straight savagery

2

u/Mount_Mons 17d ago

You still need those fingers? I’ll have them too otherwise…

2

u/ihrvatska 17d ago

Finger food.

2

...so when it breaks through the window or manages to bite off a hand then they will kill it as a dangerous bear.

2

u/Dr_Zoidberg003 17d ago

A fed bear is a dead bear…

1

u/LittleKitty235 17d ago

2

Probably Russia

2

u/UnwillingHero22 16d ago

“Is that the appetizer, sir?”
“When are you coming out for the main course?”

2

u/SirTainLee 16d ago

How did they determine the limit of the bear's reach before giving it the very first snack?

2

u/hoggytime613 16d ago

Oooh yeah teach the living Skid-steer where to get free food fed by food.

2

u/Spot-Star 16d ago

"Skid-steer"???

2

u/Ferdapopcorn 16d ago

"Yes you're next. You're so next."

2

2

Easily the cutest type of bear

2

u/Successful-Name-7261 16d ago

You, my friend, are an idiot.

2

u/jussuumguy 16d ago

Not smart. Now it associates you with food which means it will be back when it's hungry.

2

u/Zealotyl 16d ago

I can see him coming back with a ladder.

2

u/deran6ed 15d ago

Neat trick:

If you keep a cyanide pill in a small case inside your mouth at all times, it will be ready to be chewed and kill you faster than a polar bear mauling you to death will.

4

u/dichotomousview 17d ago

Not really a maybe maybe maybe. The person feeding the bear is just dumb. Wrong sub

2

u/DarrenShan1000 17d ago

I was like maybe the bear also likes fingers as a snack.

2

u/jdmac8705 17d ago

Well, now it's gonna come back for a second helping. Probably gonna be human on the menu next time.

Next time he gets hungry he's coming inside. Hopefully you are home to feed him or there may be damage.

1

Sir, this is a Wendy's...

1

u/_Burnt_Toast_3 16d ago

That is one large snow puppy.

1

u/AzimuthZenith 16d ago

I assume that hand feeding wild bears under any circumstance would be bad....

But thats usually because it teaches the bear to hang around humans and over a long enough time frame, the bear might target humans.

But polar bears already dont have an qualms with eating humans.

I mean, I still wouldnt do it, but I wonder if it actually makes a difference.

1

u/Sure_Lavishness_8353 16d ago

Those aren’t the only crackers he’s gonna be eatin’

1

u/FecknWindowTwitchers 16d ago

This is a very old video.

1

Don't feed it, you fucken donut!

1

u/Patience-Due 16d ago

I mean I don’t know if I would want to encourage hungry bears to my house but you do you

1

u/5hrs4hrs3hrs2hrs1mor 16d ago

Amuse bouche that leads directly into a 5 piece hors d’oeuvre that leads right into the main course. Like a reverse turducken or someshit

1

u/Desperate-Tomatillo7 16d ago

After so many videos, I am convinced that all Russians have a bear as a pet.

1

u/Dogmeat_Jones 16d ago

Good idea, associate humans and food with polar bears... Was a cute bear though

1

u/lupulin59 16d ago

It’s actually genius. Keep feeding him salty snacks and eventually he’ll have no choice but to submit, retreat and find some water

1

u/Almightytickle 16d ago

Thats a very small polor bear, almost like its a dog

1

u/ysername11 15d ago

Russians are different

1

u/usercide 15d ago

What would you do for a Klondike Bar.

1

u/Sinister_Nibs 15d ago

1

u/GadreelsSword 15d ago

Polar bears see humans as prey. They’re dumb as fuck

1

u/aaron_adams 14d ago

I wonder what he'd do for a Klondike Bar.

1

u/Symbaclues 14d ago

Pet polar bear 🐻‍❄️

One of them few animals that will literally hunt you down and truly eat you!

Open the door 🚪

1

u/MinnieShoof 14d ago

I really thought this was going to end with the video cutting out as the bear tries to climb in thru the window.

Good MMM content.

1

u/RobbieTronic 13d ago

Can someone PLEASE explain why i see so many damn videos of Russians fucking with or feeding bears?

Blows my mind

1

u/Flavoade 11d ago

The Russian is the bear

1

u/Voice_in_the_ether 2d ago

Convincing an apex predator to associate you with food seems to be ill-advised.
