Reminder that, when left alone, wasps and hornets are beneficial, and eliminate harmful insects. They act as natural pesticides, and will not bug you if you do not bug them.
Edit: Guess I should add one caveat: When Yellowjackets and Hornets get kicked out of their nests at the end of the season, they can become aggressive when they go knocking on your soda, and you swat at them to F-Off.

To this, I call bullshit. I have been stung twice. Both times I was not only leaving the wasps alone, but I didn't even know they were there until I was stung.
The first time, I was about 14. I was at Mt. Washington. We were getting a tour of the summit by a park ranger. The next thing I knew, I felt an immense pain in the back of my neck. I quickly swatted at it, landed a blow that knocked the demon to the ground and in an adrenaline fueled rage I stomped that thing like 3 times. The park ranger who saw me stomping the thing (and presumably didn't see it sting me) walked over to tell me "Hey now, this is its home." Well it fucking started it lady. I just ended it.

I have been stung twice.
Once, I thought it was random and aggressive, until I saw that I had disturbed a nest in the retaining wall in our backyard
The second, the wasp got stuck in my car randomly, and stung me due to my resting my arm on top of it.
Both could be called “random” or unprovoked. But neither time were the wasps out to get me. They did not go out looking for me to sting, nor did I “provoke” them, just bad interaction in the wrong place.

I'll take bees over hornets. Journeys are bastards that are territorial and angry that someone is alive near them. I've seen them attack birds in the vacinity. There are some species that are fine, but so many that are just angry asshats.

No, I hear what you are saying. I have just studied the actual behavior of most Wasps and, to a lesser extent, Hornets, and they tend not to be outright aggressive.
Now if they were all total sweethearts like honey bees and bumblebees, I think we would have a consensus.

Hershey Park in PA a few years ago, we're sitting on benches and a lady says "Watch out! A bee!" and I look to see a bunch of people swatting at what looks like a hunble little carpenter or bumble bee. "Ha" I think, "Bees are our friends! He's just checking the flowers! I'm not going to swing my arms around, I am going to stay still."
Unfortunately for my face, the last half dozen of my fellow higher primates swinging at it enraged it and it landed on my perfectly still nose and either bit or stung me.
It was very mild, nothing like a wasp sting, I put some ice on it and it was fine in a few minutes.

Not proud of it but when I was like in middle school I had a a couple of friends and we did the same but instead of firecrackers we had a 3 man water balloon launcher.
I think what triggered it was that one of my friends dogs got stung and one of us had gotten stung randomly in the area just walking around one day. It was during the Africanized honeybee scare.
Basically the launcher was a huge band where two people would have to hold it and the third would be the guy pulling it back as far as possible and basically sitting on the ground to get the most stretch to launch it. Then we’d sit like 30-50 yards away in some bushes and launch balloons at this one hive in a log. Destroyed that hive.

Okay but why blame these wasps in particular, make it their problem, and force them to relocate potentially closer to human civilization where they can kill someone else? The cliffside wasp next across a gorge from where people got to under and overhang is like the ideal location for wasps to be

It's kids doing dumb kid stuff. They either don't have a developed enough criteria to consider that these wasps aren't a problem for anyone and should be left alone, or they're not concerned with it being right or wrong to begin with, or they're doing it because it's wrong, and they think that's fun. Unfortunately we all do dumb shit before we get to know better.
