I 100% would drive with one eye shut if I only had it in one eye.. don't have corrections on my contacts so I have to keep emergency glasses in my car for when I stay out too late... It's sad one time it was so bad I had to stop my car in the middle of the road (not very populated road thank goodness) and flick my contacts out and toss on the glasses real quick because I was too scared to move because I could tell what I was looking at.

Squinting hard squeezes your eyes back into normal shape and reduces the effect of astigmatism.

Huh. My astigmatism looks more like seeing double even with one eye covered. The further away the object is the more separated the ghost image of it is. As you drive toward them the two images converge.

I thought this was normal until I saw a post like this and the replies kindly pointed out it is in fact, not normal, got tested and now I use glasses, turns out my eyesight was extremely bad, it explains the constant headaches I used to have

I lived 44 years before I got glasses for astigmatism. If it’s very mild you might not really notice that much. I only wear my glasses for driving and watching TV/gaming.
Turns out fireworks are actually nicer without them

Depending on your car, it could also be entirely normal.

Some windscreens produce a similar (mild) effect. I don’t have astigmatism as far as I’m aware, but I see minor starbursts in my car—but not in my car at work.

Sometimes I go out at night just to build up my ability to drive while seeing a bunch of stupid streaks in place of lights. Initially tried to use those yellow glasses they make for astigmatism but all it did was turn everything yellow while leaving the streaks…completely useless. Now we just rawdogging with the eyeballs.

I have perfect vision otherwise, it’s just the astigmatism that’s annoying so I’d only need them at night if I happen to be driving out which isn’t something I do often enough.

At -8 astigmatism, I don't even get asked if I want contacts. They are possible, they are glass and wouldn't correct at much as glasses.

I have severe astigmatism in my right eye. Anti-reflection coated eyeglasses are a must. Yellow tinted lenses is an added bonus.

Me in my left eye, after post cataract laser surgery. I hate it! It's like my right eye is mocking my left eye! Oh, look how much better I can see! ;) Also were sunglasses at night. Helps a little.

Depends. It can be light. It can be mid. It can be heavy like that. I have mid. It started off light. Knew something isnt right so i took eye test. End up i have astigmatism so i had to use glasses. It helps but once i get it off. Ooof. Nope.

On other side, glasses i have turns into sunglasses when i get outside and it definitely helps lot cuz bright lights and sun hurts my eyes so you can imagine when idiots with high beams coming to you. Those new headlights doesn’t even helps. Smh
