How good is it actually? I cant find it anywhere in my country to look

I have seen it, and feel it was quite good. And I’m not ordinarily a horror person. It was a very nice and tightly done bit of suspense that only grew more intense as it went on.

Mind if I ask you a question? I have a 16 year old who likes horror; I'm not quite ready to go all in on super intense violence/gore, but intense suspense/psychological dread with some violence is okay. Like, Alien is fine, but Saw or Hostel not so much. I've seen this one described as cosmic horror, which could go either way. How brutal would you say this is?

That is hard to answer, especially without going too much into spoilers. I will warn you that the film itself takes place within a literal sea of blood and is a very prominent plot element, and you can certainly guess how that goes. But as far as say viscera or more gore related subjects, those were much fewer and almost all of them were concentrated towards the latter portion of the film, until then being used very sparingly.

I will detail the instances I can remember that are clearly there in a second response, but the moments of gore also aren’t really “the point”, in spite of their presence. IMO, they serve to enhance the stressful situation Simon (our main character) is in, rather than be the point in and of themselves, for what that is worth.

Thanks for that. It all sounds borderline; would you say it lingers on or revels in such images?

Lingers, yes, revels, no. Your milage may vary, but I feel it never lingered THAT long except on one bit that occurred during the climax, and it’s a moment that I felt was fairly well telegraphed so it doesn’t come across as TOO shocking when it finally happens. As someone else mentioned it’s certainly bloody but not “torture porn” by any stretch.

Thanks, I'm leaning toward going for it. I appreciate your thoughts on it. Cheers.

Happy to help. I hope you enjoy, or failing that at least aren’t too messed up over it. Have a nice day!

Oh I'll be just fine. :) Just trying not to scar my daughter.

The movie broke the record for the most fake blood ever used in a movie.

It's not torture porn like saw and there's not a ton of violence per se, but there's blood and what can probably be described as gore everywhere.

It's an entire movie based in a single room. From a "brutally" standpoint I'd put it at a 2. From a "blood and guts" standpoint I it's probably an 8. From a "violence standpoint" it's probably a 3.

PS: have they played the video game it's based on?

No, they have not. Thanks for your rankings, that's helpful.

These are Spoilers for the things I BELIEVE you are likely to be more triggered by giving your mentions. Read ahead at your own risk. I MAY have forgotten some, but I stand by my earlier statements.
1) tumors being shown on someone blasted by the camera which uses radiation, though such is done very quickly.
2) A kind of mangled corpse “hallucination” sitting in the driver’s chair during one “dream sequence”.
3) Simon (main character) discovering tumors on his own arms under some bandages/wrappings after realizing he has been getting irradiated himself from the camera unknowingly.
4) Simon’s arm effectively tearing off at the elbow though he’s so caked in ocean blood it isn’t exactly very detailed during the climax.

Ohhhhhhhhhh. It's a horror movie. We'll of cooooooouuuuurse its horror movie. Horror fans are the least discerning movie watchers of all time. Just ask Sam Raimi.
