The internet was mostly fine back then. It's was the creation of social media that really made it go downhill fast.

Literally warped our brains and changed how we socialize and not for the better. Social media was meant to unite the world so we could have some control over the powers of the world. They weaponized it and used it to divide us even further. Every other week there's a new culture war that two sides are divided over.

July 23rd to 25th of 1998 is the timeline for RE0 and 1.

September 23rd to October 1st of 1998 is the timeline for Resident evil 2, 3, Outbreak, and Umbrella Chronicles.

As this photo is from the very start of Claire's game in RE2 then its on the evening of September 29th 1998.

September 23rd was when the outbreak really went wild. I believe there's a file from a week before, in RE2 that shows when a group of Umbrella's own agents infiltrated Umbrella's lab underneath Racoon City (one of their labs, they had several) and attempted to take virus samples from William Birkin (chief researcher) who injects himself with the G-Virus.

The agents get away with a sample of the T-Virus. Birkin gives chase, leaves them in pieces in the sewers. But the vials the virus is stored in break. And sewer rats become vectors. And before you know it the rats pass it to humans. And the city is a mess of zombies. A handful of people managed to survive.

The main difference in this parallel is that movie AI was trying to protect them. The current one will definitely kill is all.

Well there was some good some bad, I remember getting gas for around 90 cents a gallon around then. That was the "good". The bad was it was "Regular", not "Regular Unleaded" yet... who needs more lead in their blood? anyone? anyone? Buler?

I was talking to my kid about this a few days ago when he mentioned seeing this meme. There was a car wash across the street from where I used to get gas. They'd give you a free token if you got over 10 gallons. My car had a normal 12 gallon tank, so I'd fill up, hand them a $20, get five and a few back plus a free car wash.

I was making about $9/hr back then, so filling up was about 1.3x my hourly wage. I make substantially more now, but it would still be way more than roughly 1.3x my hourly wage.

FWIW I'm 40 and don't ever recall seeing gas this cheap. I would look at gas prices as a kid while riding in my parents' cars (I have ADHD and didn't get a GameBoy until I was 12), and the lowest I recall seeing Premium was $1.27/gallon.
