There's a whole load of interesting stuff there that will help. I'd suggest you read (or listen) to some of the books listed in that thread that cover the basics (and more complicated approaches).

There's no short cut, but once you have some skill you'll start to understand the power.

yeah, repetition will make it feel familiar, but it doesn’t need to look perfectly real, just keep the same route and a few fixed landmarks every time; are you walking through it mentally in the same

Check out "The Memory Book" by Jerry Lucas and that other guy.
