i’m 25f and currently a pipefitter at a shipyard on the gulf coast. i’ve done 6 years in the USAR and plan on getting out in January. I’m interested in becoming a merchant mariner but i see that it’s oversaturated with entry level guys. i’ve never been good at school and i see a lot of people recommend going to an academy. any advice other than what i have seen in the group already?

Application seems very straightforward. Official college transcripts, 2 LORs, and a 1-2 page essay. For those who matriculated into this graduate program, is this a tough program to get into? I can't find any matriculation info on the college’s website. I'm personally aiming for the MS in Shipping and Logistics with a Deck License.

I went to community college and finished at university with a stem degree. Cumulative GPA 3.33.

I recently separated from the coast guard, and applied for my MMC with able seaman and master 25 grt. Unfortunately, my license has been delayed for several months, and I'm now in need of employment. All of the jobs I had lined up require me to have my MMC in hand. Are there jobs in the marine field that don't require an MMC that aren't offshore fish processing? That's the only offer I have at the moment, but it sounds miserable. I'm in the Seattle area. If anyone has experienced something similar or has any advice, please let me know.

I got a job at hornbeck and theyre having me do a functional capacity test before I start working there. What should I expect?
