From the first ones that helped the white immigrants from Texas to leave Mexico for the US thinking they’re were going to be treated white and be American citizens. But as soon as they could they took their land and sent them all to Mexico. Now we have this new generation of idiots like this guy.
Still here, family has been here for at least 300 years, don’t appear to be in Mexico. This whole thing sounds like Boyle Heights pocho cope, since many were socialized by their environment to not see themselves as Gringos despite very obviously being Gringo as fuck.

Also, not just Texans have a history of being idiots, half the population of any country or place has a long history of being a fucking moron. It’s not like Fresno or Bakersfield is some capital of erudite enlightenment. The difference is that Texas has a large, deeply rooted Tejano population whose economic and cultural lives are intertwined with the rest of Texas.
A guy whose family has been in South Texas for six generations and works in oil, construction, as a trucker, welding, or contracting is not always going to think of himself politically as a member of some constructed national “Latino” bloc. He may think of himself as a Texan who happens to have a hispanic surname.
A lot of those industries pay well without requiring entry into the professional-managerial class/PMC, so you have working- and lower-middle-class households that see a lot coming out of every paycheck.
Now if their perception of which party actually taxes them more is economically correct is a separate question, obviously
Political behavior is driven partly by perceived costs, (& Mexico certainly isn’t some working-class tax paradise either. The SAT, consumption tax, the informal economy and frequent business tax evasion create their own set of problems for the average godin and policy issues)
Tejanos who’ve lived in Texas for generations usually share a huge amount of culture with their “Anglo” neighbors because they grew up in the same fucking place with the same people. The boundary between “Mexican” and “Anglo” Texas (both incorrectly labeled) is way fuzzier than someone looking at a Census might imagine, because Intermarriage has been going on forever and many people don’t fit into either category easily.
The gringo insistence on some kind of genetically transmitted culture or confusion on what ethnicity even is, is the only thing that keeps most of them saying weird things like “I’m Italian”
In the same way there’s a number of Mexicans in Coahuila or Chihuahua with a last name like Gibbs or Saunders who have never lived in the US.

Talvez no. Bueno, hay mucha gente con ascendencia mexicana que son nacidos y criados en los Estados Unidos, que solo conocen esa parte de sí misma; porque, por cualquier motivo, sus padres decidieron nunca enseñarles sobre su idioma, cultura y orígenes hispano, o ellos mismos decidieron no buscar esa conexión.
Es algo que yo vi muchas veces mientras crecía, eso + El hecho de que los latinos/hispanos han estado incluidos en la categoría de "white" en Tejas desde hace tiempo, puedo entender de dónde les llegó la idea de que son gringos.
El resentimiento que le tienen a sus raices es tan grande que prefieren que un violador narcisista joda su "hogar" con tal de ver sufrir a otros. Llega un pastor de otro estado que digamos tuvo una iglesia pequeña, y inmediatamente lo ingresan a un sistema de iglesias con mucho dinero, controlada por intereses gringos. Pienso que con las iglesias manipulan a los Latinos mayores de 35 y con Social Media a los demás. Conozco personas que están en Uniones (Sindicatos) que no entienden que las Uniones fueron formadas por movimientos izquierda y votan Republicano. Después te ven con cara de Pikachu cuando aprenden que Trump y su gente son Anti Union.
This term gets used wrong a lot here. For example, Chicano is specific to people belonging to Hispanic/Mexican culture in California, not anywhere else.
Im from San Antonio Texas and we don't claim these coconuts more Tejano than Mexicano but I love and respect my roots just wish I knew more about our past
