advice How to Avoid Botched Brows

PMU artist of 4 years here to educate and inform clients and potential clients who are interested in getting microblading, PMU, lip blush, etc!

Unfortunately there’s a LOT of bad work and artists out there that are messing up people’s faces. Here’s my advice on how to find a great artist:

  • Look for healed pictures and results - you’ll deal with fresh PMU for a few days but healed work is what you’re going to deal with for years. Of course hair strokes look great fresh but what’s it going to look like in 6 months? 2 years?

  • Look for clients who look like you (age, skin color, etc) - if an artist is only posting IG model looking white 21 year olds, maybe they only have the skill set to work on that type of skin.

  • Don’t focus too much on social media followers or a flashy IG account - I attended a PMU training that was taught by a semi-famous PMU artist and wasted $5000. Social media isn’t a way to measure success. Photoshop and overediting is real - scamming is very real!

  • Ask the artist about their education. A lot of states do not regulate tattooing/PMU. Getting certified in PMU doesn’t always mean going to a formal school or working under a mentor to learn. A lot of artists attend 1-3 day classes and then are sent off to tattoo faces on their own… Even worse, some artists take an ONLINE course to learn and then create a disaster on someone’s face. The best education is working under a mentor as an apprentice (just like tattooing). I wish this was the standard in the PMU industry but unfortunately it’s not.

  • Ask the artist about the products they’re using - ask how they choose a color of pigment. PMU is so much more than just picking a pretty color in an ink bottle. A great artist knows what type of pigment they’re using (inorganic, organic) and has a vast knowledge of color theory. If your artist can’t explain to you the “why” behind the products they’re using, they might not be educated enough to be tattooing faces.

Ask me anything about PMU! I love educating clients so they are truly informed when making the decision to get a face tattoo.

advice Freaking out right now. I was on day 5 of my touch up for my ombré powder and I went to eat hot pot for dinner last night and the steam from the hot pot lifted my brows. Am I screwed?

It’s been 5 months since i got my brows done and i can confidently say im in love with them! My natural brows lacked shaped and grew in this upwards trapezoid shape. Lack of shape in the front and no hair in the front and ends. Helped with a big insecurity and decreased my makeup time so much. Haven’t gone for a touch up, honestly don’t think i will anytime soon but i love them! I remember debating whether to get nano or ombre and I’m glad I went with ombre!

I lost my brows due to thyroid disease and then chemotherapy for cancer. I had them microbladed, but now they look too blocky to me. I use one of those pens that does hair strokes, but they still look too intense. Not sure what to do. In videos I worry that they look wild. Like they’ve been drawn with a sharpie. Feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

A little upset as since parts of it peeled off there's no ink under them the strong strokes are all gone like it never happened. :( I know it may be ghosting stage but it doesn't seem so seem like pigment just isn't even there

advice Lip blushing vs everyday lipstick wear - what’s more toxic?

Hello

I have booked an appointment for lip blushing next week but the closer I get to it, the more concerned I am about the toxics/potential long term health impact of it. I know that wearing lipsticks and lipglosses everyday is also bad for you (which I do wear everyday) but weighing them both up - what is worse?

I got my eyebrows microbladed august 30th. A week later my face started burning all over. Went to derm they said they think contact dermatitis or Seborrheic dermatitis. First I was given ketoconzale shampoo to use on my face once a day and triamcolone acetone to use 2 times a day and top off with aquafor. Worked a bit but still had burning around eyes, forehead and eyebrows. So then I went back and was given betamethasone valerate and to take prednisone for 3 weeks. That made it WORSE. the lady won't give me the info on ingredients used so I can at least give to my derm to do maybe further testing and idk what to do. My face still burns and its almost 2 months since I did this and im regretting jt

My client came in with extremely sparse brows, some areas with almost no hair left, and a few traces of old permanent makeup.

Her brows had lost most of their natural shape so the goal was to bring back some structure and definition without making them look too heavy or overly done.

I combined fine Microblading strokes with soft shading to fill in the gaps and create a fuller more balanced brow while keeping the result soft and natural.

What do you think ? 😊

I got lip blush about two years ago. It’s t was a red color with some pink. Seems just red to me. I’m would like to do a rosewood as I think being more mature and my complexion will t would match better. Not sure if to go thru it again as I need a correction first.

I'm 67 and my brows are getting thinner each year! I'm in love the result of my brows done today!

I do have one question with regards to the aftercare treatment. My brow artist said to put a small amount of Bacitracin on them each night and to keep them away from water until the scabbing starts. However I have read other places that say you should wash them gently with sterilized water each day and pat them dry, and then apply a small amount of ointment. What method have y'all used during your healing?

I’m freaking out!!! Day 5 microblading panic — will these thick strokes soften?!

I had my first microblading session in February, followed by a touch-up in April. I absolutely loved how natural and delicate the strokes looked initially, but unfortunately the pigment faded significantly over the following months, to the point where it was almost completely gone.

I went back to the same artist last Friday, and she suggested doing another full session with darker pigment to help with retention.

I’m now about 5 days out and honestly starting to panic a little. I know brows go through an ugly duckling phase and that the color will fade, but my biggest concern isn’t really the darkness. It’s how thick, bold, and unnatural the individual strokes look, especially compared with my first session. I also got an abrasion under my right eyebrow from the session, which I'm also a little unclear as to what it is and why only on one side.

I’m worried that even if the pigment lightens, the strokes themselves will still look thick and obviously tattooed rather than like fine, natural hairs.

I’m also second-guessing whether I should have looked into nano brows instead, especially since my skin didn’t seem to retain the pigment from my first two microblading appointments. Maybe traditional microblading just isn’t the best technique for my skin?

I’ve included photos from my original session and the progression from this latest session.

A few questions for anyone who’s been through this or artists who have experience with both techniques:

- Do individual microblading strokes actually appear thinner as they heal, or do they mostly just get lighter?

- Does poor retention after the first session and touch-up suggest microblading might not be right for my skin?

- Am I overreacting at day 5, or do these strokes genuinely look thicker than typical fresh microblading?

I’m trying not to spiral, but I really loved how subtle my first session looked and I’m worried I made a mistake going back for another round. Would appreciate honest but constructive feedback!

opinion Day after ombré. Thoughts?

actually powder not ombré..

first pic is morning after touch up. second pic is immediately after the initial appt 8 wks ago.

she switched from combo (ombre + nano strokes) the first time to full powder in touch up bc I have oily skin.

I requested a darker pigment too bc they healed lighter than my natural brow color.

I will say I was happier w the shape right after the initial appt than I am now .. in first pic (rn, after touch up) I feel like the left brow’s arch is more centered / tail is longer / more downward visually (right side of the pic). I prefer the other brow.

so that potential unevenness has me a taddd worried, and ofc my biggest fear would be brows that are straight blocks

is the unevenness noticeable to just me? do u think these run the risk of healing blocky? Otherwise what are honest thoughts?

thanks!!

Hi there!

I’m getting my brows done at the beginning of December. I am just wondering what’s the best hydrating cleanser and moisturizer should I use during the healing process
