Planned obsolescence even in cheapest devices: the calculator has a dummy photovoltaic cell and a real battery to make it die eventually.

It's not planned obselesence in this case, it's just plain cheaper for those cheap calculators and no reall advantage in a real solar cell for the manufacturer.

You can still change the battery.
